Oh absolutely. This project was publicly announced as dead in the water. Any real ire ought to be directed at Sony or MS for not doing what Nintendo did: saving it.

It's sad that a game like Bayonetta needs saving though. Really sad. Meanwhile shit like 50 Cent: Bulletproof sells a million without problems.
Now I feel like crap that I had to buy my LE off eBay for 100€ and didn't give SEGA my money. Their fault.

Would you be willing to pay $300 for a console + $60 for a game if said game was the only thing that interested you on said console? I know some GAFfers bought PS3s for like $800 just for FF XIII or whatever, but people who buy a console for one single game are in the minority.

If I wanted the ame bad enough yeah. I bought a $600 ps3, projector, receiver, and 5.1 system just for MGS4. If literally no other game was released or the system it would have been worth it.

I honestly think its more that people bought an app on the iPhone and then saw the sequel released exclusively on android.

I'd like to see the Android/iPhone forums you frequent, where people are motivated exclusively by a rational desire to maintain all applications in a single device.

Regardless, the point is moot. This explanation would make much more sense if the other option were for this game to be on PS3 or 360!

I don't understand why people bother to whinge about it at length but I totally understand why it pisses people off. Imagine watching two films of a trilogy on blu-ray and then the third is released exclusively on hd-dvd.

Right, what you are noting is the nature of complimentary goods. Again, this logic would make much more sense in different circumstances. Would people be upset if this game were announced for the PS4/720? I very strongly doubt it, any more than people would be annoyed if GTA VI were announced for PS4/720, or Mass Effect 4 were. And yet, any of those announcements would require the purchase of a new "player" just as much as this one does.

I mean, we can dance the analogy dance all night but ultimately what's done is done. Bayonetta fans either buy a Wii-U or they miss out on the game. That's all there is to it. I don't think it's going to kill anyone to miss out on a single videogame, far worse fates could befall us.

Agreed. Further, it's really important to note that the other option besides Wii U was that the game did not exist at all.

If the deal works, they might as well.

Platinum couldn't ask for a more powerful publisher, and get the impression there's a lot of mutual respect going on here.

Same feeling here and its heartwarming.

Nintendo X Platinum can only lead to good things, of this I am sure.

Difference is, you could still play the game on PS3. Now, everyone that bought the first game for a MS or Sony console is now forced to buy Nintendo's new console to see how the sequel unfolds. Same thing with Devil May Cry, went to 360 but was still on PS3. Could you imagine if Gears of War 4 all the sudden was published by Sony on the PS4? Rage of 1000 suns.

I have a hard time believing that if the sequel was announced for PS4 and the 360 successor there would be this much griping because people had to purchase a new console for the game. People currently think the WiiU is going to have a worse library than those platforms despite knowing nothing about what's going to be on them.

Do you buy every console every gen?

If not, why not? Don't pretend there aren't two games that interest you.

Your argument is flawed because Bayonetta 2 was cancelled altogether for 360/PS3 because no other publisher wanted to foot the bill to get it made to completion. The result: No one gets to play Bayonetta 2 ever.

Nintendo comes out of no where and resurrects Bayonetta 2 by funding the game directly and the result: People can play Bayonetta 2 if they buy a Wii U.

I like MGS4 but hot damn :lol The furthest I've ever gone for a franchise I love is buying a PSP solely for the two exclusive God of War games (had I known they would get superior PS3 ports I would never have bought the damn PSP).

Kickstarter, how the fuck does it work!?

So basically Sega should have turned down Nintendo's bag of cash to fund it and went with a source they may or may not have worked just to get it on more systems?

Like c'mon.

Do you want the game or not? I get why people are a bit let down by it being on a system they don't want but in this situation it's this way or no way at all.

Pick one.

I wonder how much more detailed Bayonetta's ass will be in this one?

This is important to me. I hope they don't request any kind of downplay to the sexual tones of Bayonetta. For once, I loved seeing a lead woman who was both extremely sexual and strong (both physically and emotionally). I'm not saying she was a deep character or anything, but I loved her attitude and her revealing attire to match.

After all we did get this before:

Production Studio 4 said:
"For the growth of the gaming industry. For GameCube. These words describe our initial thoughts. In an industry where you create to amuse and entertain, do you sense a crisis about the industry's continuing regression of excitement and new stimulation?
"We believe that the regression of excitement is solely the fault and responsibility of we creators. By the same token, we believe it is also our mission and responsibility to create something that is 'worth seeing' for the user.
"In a market that has become prosaic with character dependant games and sequel games, we would like to take this opportunity to announce five new and exciting games for GameCube."

This all reminds me of the Capcom Five, just with the middleman Capcom taken out of the equation.

So SEGA must own the IP that's why they are involved. I would love to hear the backstory on this game's development.

My interest in Wii U has increased due to this announcement. Good play Nintendo.

The difference also is that those games were going to be made without exclusivity.

Bayonetta 2 does not exist without Nintendo.

That is the big difference between those games and this.

Do people not understand this part of it?

Exactly.

I don't get the anger. Sony and Microsoft chose not to back the game. Nintendo did.

Haven't read all the reactions, but I just came home and said wwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaat!!!!

I played Bayonetta at a friends house and I adored it. Definite systemseller.

As someone who met the announcement with a very lukewarm reaction, I wouldn't have been very excited with a PS4/Nextbox announcement either. For pretty much the same reason: if I had to choose between (current) hardware I already own and a new machine that has yet to justify my owning it, I'll always choose the former. I guess that just means I'm a cheap bastard though.

(edit: and yes, obviously at one point there are enough interesting games relative to the price on a console to justify my owning it, I'll just grumble along the way)

Damn. I wish it wasn't WiiU since I wasn't planning on spending the money, but I'd spend just about anything to get some more Bayonetta.

Nintendo is publishing it world wide. This means, ONLY Nintendo is getting the game.
If there will ever be something like a "Bayonetta 2 - Ultimate Ass Wiggling Edition" which includes all the DLC and new levels, moves and a side-story, then that MAY be coming to other consoles, if Nintendo isn't fast enough to publish that too. And this too is only happening if that's even possible given we don't know what kind of publishing contract Nintendo has made with Sega and Platinum.
They might be publishing this game only in the vanilla version. They may also have the publishing rights for every possible updated rerelease. We don't know.

In my experience, the group who funds a game generally negotiates full rights over ownership of that game. Indeed, when I was working in games development, we had to very carefully extricate our engine (owned by us) from the game code (owned by the publisher) and supply to them a version of the game code designed to build against a library version of our game engine.

The game code was *owned* by the publisher. It's not impossible that Platinum have negotiated a deal which gives them rights to the games code, but it's extremely unlikely that Nintendo would - effectively - fund development of a game to be released on their rivals.

Release it on 360 or no sale.

Port-begging bans are the hot thing today, you know...

I just wanted to reiterate that Platinum is keeping action games alive with this and Metal Gear Raiden. I just wish Tecmo was capable of fixing Ninja Gaiden and Capcom would outsource Devil May Cry to Platinum. Only on Dream World.

What am I saying? Bayonetta 2 is real...holy crap! Living in Dream World right now!!

Who would have ever thought that Nintendo could bring this game back??

Exactly. This is exactly the kind of thing Nintendo should be doing if they want to win over the core audience. Having said that, I don't think Bayonetta by itself is going to do much, but if they can continue this strategy of picking up hardcore-friendly titles that other publishers are nervous about, they could really win people over.

Any meltdowns?

Seems an odd platform choice, purely based on the past audience - but if Nintendo's footing the bill I can't blame SEGA and Kamiya. Also, it's not like Kamiya hasn't made his love for Sony well known, while the 360 is dead in Japan - and it's successor will probably be too.

Bayonnetta 2 coming out just makes NG3 and DmC look that much less interesting

I imagine after Nintendo saw Bayonetta 2, they went to Sega who was sat on a park bench swigging from a bottle of gin in a brown paper bag:

"Bad times huh?"
"Yeah man, sucks. Can you spare some change?"
"You need that Bayonetta 2 right now?"
"No man, can't even bloody finish it. Yours for a tenner?"
"Ok, there you go"
"Thanks Nintendo, always knew I could count on you"
"Don't spend it on drugs Sega"

I think that's how it went.

Then I find myself surprised that you can't empathise with people that don't want to buy every console.

I usually do buy them all and inevitably end up with buyers remorse. I've promised myself I won't do that this time, but we shall see. New toys are fun, after all.

I empathize with how they feel but not how they choose to voice their opinion (in general.) I don't go whining in threads for cool new games that aren't coming to my systems.

This made me laugh hysterically... and then I got sad... poor SEGA.
