Gaze into the fist |OT| DREDD 3D

I thought this was filmed on the cheap so in order for it to do well it doesn't need to light up the charts?

Is it out in the UK yet? That's Dredd territory. I imagine it'll do well there.

IIRC Garland said it needed to make something like $50 million in the US in order to secure a sequel. I think our only chances are either a tremendous international performance or some massive legs.

Yeah. I just read that too. Here's a link

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/07/08/the-judge-dredd-movie-trilogy-as-loosely-planned-by-writer-alex-garland/

it came out there weeks ago.

And it looks like it bombed there too... FUCK. I weep for humanity.

This is why we can't have nice things

Meanwhile, the next Transformers will do $400 million. Life isn't fair, friends.

On the bright side, I can't wait to buy the Blu-ray 2 months from now.

Well I don't normally bother myself with box office numbers, but if Dredd bombed in the UK, it really had no chance in the US.

Oh well, maybe it will be appreciated as a cult classic. Hard R action movies will always be rare, even if they get smaller budgets.

And I'm so glad there was no shitty one-liner as he walked away. It was very well done.
Yes. There were many such moments where most films would drop in a one-liner, where Dredd let's the action do the talking. They really hit the right balance with Dredd's dialogue.

I take a teeny, tiny bit of solace that it ticked up a bit on Saturday, when movies like this tend to attract their hardcore audience and then drop. Maybe legs will carry it to $20m. Maybe.

Saw this movie at a local theater on Friday for a 5:20PM 3D showing, there were probably like 15 people tops in the theater.

Sad, I really enjoyed this movie, and loved the first one. The Lawbringer pistol was done well, and was glad to see most of it's firing modes (shame there was no 'double-whammy' though)

Can't wait to get the Blu-ray for this as well. Also, the 3D was pretty cool during the 'Slo-Mo' induced scenes with the color and glass and such.

This movie was so good I had a nerdgasm in the car. I'm gonna go see it again next week just to give them more money.

the flashbacks of her ripping the guy's eyes out don't count?

It happened so quickly and you barely see her do it, plus he got awesome tech eyes so we didnt really see the sad after effects of it.

The scene where he is on the phone with the other judge while she slides a knife around his navel was close. You got to appreciate her malice a bit there.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
It will be GAF's next Speed Racer, guaranteed.

Speed Racer at least was a visual fucking drug of choice. All trailers for this Dredd sent me to sleep with emptiness and grey everywhere, not what I'd expect of the busy and colour barfing bonanza that is the actual comic-book. They made a boring looking film, this is the result. Who knew.

In my theater, during the opening monologue, Dredd said something like "There is a city..." and someone behind us whispered in a vocal impression, "A Dreddful city..." I have to admit, that made me laugh.

I think this movie was an eyegasm more so than Speed in certain places, otherwise it fit the bill of mega city one almost perfectly

The world on Slo-Mo looked fantastic. The world outside of it looked appropriately grim and messed up. It reminded me of District 9 a lot (which makes sense, both filmed in South Africa).

Agreed - the Slo-Mo bits were spectacular. And I actually thought the cinemtography was one of the high points of the film. It looked great in places.

I loved the Cinematography in Dredd. It exhibited a fantastic sense of minimalism. Deliberate and much better than the standard action flick fare. It and the sound design worked extremely well together.

definitely going to see this again before it disappears from theaters. was surprised by how quickly total recall vanished; totally missed it.

Now that I think about it, that movie's awfulness is probably why audiences didn't give this other 'remake' a chance.

Saw it this morning with the wife, we loved it. There was only 6 people in the theater :( I knew it had bombed going in, but damn is that disappointing, was a great movie. I will pick up the 3D Blu Ray for sure though.

Fucking hell, I really need a sequel to let the world off the leash and to see more of Urban's Dredd.

Multiple DVD sales, repeat cinema trips, Kickstarter, I don't care, I just want it.

I think Dvd will do quite well, sorta like how Robocop has grown an audience mostly through home video. The failure of Dredd at theaters in a market with Brit properties like Harry Potter and Dr Who doing gangbusters and having a vibe tbat should attract Quentin Tarrentino's audience seems to be a marketing deficiency. Why wasnt Dredd associated with mega hit Hunger Games that was released by the same studio? Maybe get Jennifer Lawrence to pimp Dredd tastefully while doing Hunger Games pr? Lawrence would have done well as rookie Anderson IMO.

I saw this movie today. It was low budget, dark, unexpectedly funny and I loved it. I loved the broken down, low-tech future thing they had going on and I really loved that it took full advantage of it's R rating. It was well executed, fluff-free and I had a blast.

It was also criminally marketed and it was sent out into theaters to die. I want a full fledged, all out, sequel to this and it is 90% unlikely to happen.

We had some good laughs at how much the emotional narrative of the characters clashed against Dredd himself. I doubt we'll see a sequel, unless it picks up in a few weeks. If it doesn't, the R is dead in tinseltown.

I have been meaning to go and see this since it came out but haven’t had the chance, but hearing that it has done badly I am making sure I go tomorrow with the wife as I have heard only good things about it and it deserves to do well considering studious hesitance to do R/18 rated movies which is a shame.

Dredd wasn't "low budget" wtf

You want low budget, look at a fucking indian movie.

regardless

Why do they even bother with cinema/theatre releases for certain movies? I hope we see a shift from that in the future.
same reason they sell games in stores instead of just online. Gotta feed the dying animal instead of just taking him 'round back

No, it isn't. People say this whenever an R rated movie bombs, but there have been many successful R rated films in the past several years. Just this year we had Prometheus. Dredd probably bombed due to awful marketing and the property itself. No one knows or cares about Judge Dredd. I'm sure the Stallone film left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths as well.

This, this this.

This movie is like Escape from New York, Robocop, Die Hard and the Gauntlet had a sloppy make-out session and spawnd this gem.

Wonderfully retro in style, too.

I spread the word to a bunch of co-workers that seem interested now. I'm even going to see it again this weekend in proper 3d if it's still going.
