So are you saying they don't really believe the game will sell anyway???wow....so why not porting the first one, do they think people see trilogies backwards????

This is EA's line of thinking.

"Okay I have written down all the recent games I've published on these pieces of paper"
*puts them in a hat*
"Time to draw out the lucky winner!"
*pulls out Mass Effect 3*
"Mmk Nintendo you can have this one"

I may start to believe more in that description than i thought i would...

Just curious, has anyone else's launch want list changed in the past few weeks? Rayman was a must buy for me, but now it is a wait and see, same with NSMBU. ZombiU is now a must buy, and I'm probably going to get TTT2 and take a serious look at Razor's Edge. Also, I ended up more sold on NintendoLand than I expected which is why I preordered the Deluxe box.

Edit: Also, I know we heard the weird rumor about Retro convincing Unreal to port UE4 to Wii U (lol), but in that article it said there are actually supposedly multiple proprietary engines that many first and third party devs will be able to use. Did we know this or was it assumed? I was under the impression Retro was just building it for their game. Sorry if this was already discussed, I've been pretty GAF absent recently.

They are called "Epic" not "Unreal"...

Anyway, my two launch games are still NSMBU and ZombiU. I might also pick up Black Ops 2 around christmas. TTT2 is a fantastic game but I already have that on PS3.

Thanks just a typo

NSMBU and Rayman changed places (NSMBU used to be wait and see and Rayman used to be day one).

Hoping NG3 is not shit like the previous release, but I'm not willing to take that on faith.

Never played the original but they sure are talking like they understand some of the problems people had with the game, so hopefully it is at least decent. The only thing I couldn't handle is if it was all just crazy repetitive and I've heard that was a big problem in NG3.

I don't think EA being profitable in recent time (after extremely costly restructurations and losses of billions of dollars) magically renders each and every decision they make valid and reasonable, especially when there's little argument against all potential criticism. Their business strategy just seems rather random and inconsistent.

Maybe I didn't express myself properly, I agree with you. The balance sheet tale is not one favorable to EA.

NSMBU and Darksiders II are still day 1 for me. Since I'm playing through Arkham Asylum now Batman was almost day 1 for me, but all the negative reports about it now have me waiting on it. Mass Effect 3 was going to replace it, since I was just borrowed ME2 from a friend for PS3, but with the MET being announced ME3 is off the table completely. Maybe I'll replace them with Zombie U, I'm just kind of burnt out on Zombie games.

Yeah I skipped Arkham City on PC so I could support the Wii U version but I'm kind of unsure of it now. I'm about halfway through Darksiders and loving it right now so I'll probably end up with that one pretty quick too. I just don't know what games I'm getting first. My list is growing daily it seems like.

Black Ops 2 and ZombiU are still my two games I preordered from NewEgg. However those will arrive 3 days later at the most. Might get lucky and have them arrive on Monday. So I was close to deciding to get Mass Effect 3 on the day I pick up my system but the trilogy announcement did away with that. Now trying to decide between Assassin's Creed 3, Batman, and Ninja Gaiden.

I would have gone with Lego City Undercover but that isn't out on launch day, same for Pikmin 3. NSMBU is something I can get anytime and I'm not ready for another 2D Mario yet. Sure Nintendo Land will come with my system but I do want something more that very day. Though I wonder if it might be better to scrap one of the two games I ordered and just get it that day instead of spending the additional money to get a third game. Hmm.

I think it's just plain old 'not thinking things through' on EAs part. releasing Trilogy on PC and 360 is a no brainer at this point to try to bring more people in and get more sales out of old products. the cost of developing this package on those systems is incredibly small since all three games are already on those two platforms. at a later date, a PS3 version is coming out. this is a bit more costly because they will have to port one game to the platform to complete the trilogy.

when choosing a game to port to Wii U to get something there at launch Mass Effect 3 is a good fit. the game is well suited to doing something with the Wii U pad without needing to reinvent the game.

EA want a couple of games out in the launch window. So they pick the best suited ones and port them in Madden and ME3. trying to do a Wii U trilogy would take a lot longer as you'd be talking about porting all three games rather than just one or zero, missing the launch window.

obviously from a consumer perspective seeing ME3 at full retail next to the complete trilogy makes the Wii U version a terrible value proposition, but that's all there is too it i'd bet.

the decisions seem moderately logical in isolation and only reveal their idiocy when you put them together. choosing ME3 as a game to port for Wii U launch isn't stupid because it's a great fit for the Wii U pad already. releasing a compilation of all three ME games on PC and 360 isn't stupid as it'll squeeze more sales out of those games for little cost. porting ME1 to the PS3 and doing a similar trilogy makes sense, as it'll squeeze more money out of the ports of 2 and 3 and bring any PS3 only owners that didn't want to jump in halfway through the story.

side by side though... yeah, complete stupidity.

I was worried about that 3-5 days of shipping as well when I got BO II and ACIII from Newegg but a lot of places are listing the launch date for some of these games as 11/13. So I'm thinking the games might come out before the system (other console launches have had games available for sale prior to the console as well).

True there is that. I do remember thinking some games might come out before the system. If that happens then I likely won't pick up anything additional.

I threw some questions out in the ether and the response to the whole ME3/METri thing appears to be "EA did not expect Wii U owners to buy Mass Effect, anyway, so no point in porting over three games. If ME3 sells gangbusters, they'll consider it a proper summer home for Mass Effect."

Grain of salt, etc. This isn't an official EA response, but it appears to be their reasoning.

The problem is that there's no reason to buy the Wii U version.

The third game is cheaper on the PS3/360/PC and now those platforms are getting the entire trilogy in one bundle ...

They're sending it to it's own doom.

That's cool.

However, I'm more interested by the fact that you can manage things on the GamePad.

So for local MP is guess the best thing to get as a second controller is a Wiimote and Nunchuck right? I mena I don't really need pro controller because the GamePad is basically the same thing with a screen and games like Nintendo Land and NSMBU seem to use the old Wii stuff.

that really depends. not all games will support both variants for multiplayer. for now, though, Wiimote+Nunchuck will allow you to play most games in multiplayer mode.

I will probably get a pro controller later. I am just talking launch here. It's also mostly just so I can play with my GF. I doubt she will ever want to play BLOPS2 local MP with me.

Is ME3 on wii u worth it if I havent played 1 or 2?

well it's obviously less of a journey and you're being dropped right in the middle of things even with the motion comic that let's you make the important choices from ME1 and ME2. but it's still pretty cool and features some very emotional stuff. just know that you naturally won't be as invested in the characters when they pop up.

You're better off getting the trilogy if you can. The whole series is about your progression throughout each game so starting at ME3 is pretty useless.

Just curious what made you change your mind about Rayman? I completely agree about NSMBU that now its a must buy for me, but my opinion on Rayman hasn't changed at all.

Anything new happen today? Did EA announce FIFA 96-2013 all stars that will go to every console expect the Wii U at the price of lower than FIFA 13 on Wii U because the name as a "U" in it?

The Frog Murfy is 50% of the singleplayer instead of Rayman and its co-op in those sections with Murfy.

From E3 on, it was pretty clear that Rayman was a multiplayer game. Not sure why people are so surprised now. Bummer, but at least Mario looks good and I'll get that instead.

So..... Why buy it for WiiU if you are planning on using the Wii U Pro Controller?

So you can finally play games on a Nintendo console without any gimmicks. Unless they have something really unique planned for the tablet, I honestly wish more devs would take this approach. The ability to stream the game to the tablet should be what 90% of third parties do especially if it makes the difference between getting a port or not getting one.

I wouldn't really call inventory/map/quick select on the screen a gimmick. It's improved functionality. Shake-to-throw-grenade was gimmicky.

Not sure why people are so up in arms over this. It's a different character but it's still the Rayman game, still same mechanics.

It's like not buying Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island because you have to play as Yoshi.

Unless the pro controller is more ergonomic then the gamepad, I don't really see the use for it for single player. The gamepad has all the same buttons.

The non-Rayman sections play completely differently. It's more like not buying Super Mario World 2 because you have to play 50% of the game like Yoshi Touch & Go.

My GF urged me to buy her Wii U at launch just because of Rayman Legends Castle Rock footage. And her birthday is on the same day when Wii U arrives in Europe...
