Yeah, I believe Luck's dad is an exec with Houston. I'm pretty sure he was at the opener for the new stadium.

Man, Jozy is on fire. It's obvious that he's got the goods when playing on a team that can consistently create chances. A big reason why our strikers aren't bagging many goals these days is because the service from midfield is so inconsistent, partly because of the fascination with going with three defensive midfielders in an attempt to clog things in the middle. It was good to see Klinsmann move away from that somewhat in the second Jamaica match.

I realize that we don't have the personnel to run a truly open offense, but I think that we've got some talented attacking midfielders who have been overlooked the past year. I thought starting Zusi vs. Jamaica was a great idea and hopefully it reminded Klinsmann that we're capable of generating good pressure against CONCACAF teams if the right players are in there. Perhaps against the Spains and Brazils of the world we should play defensively, but we shouldn't be afraid to go with a more offensive-minded roster in qualifying.

I didn't get to watch the game but it sounds like Dempsey would have made quite an impact if not for the refs...

22'
Dempsey heads into the net after a great run and cross from Bale. But it's flagged offside. It wasn't.

45'
HT. SPURS 0-0 LAZIO. Spurs have had most of the game, but Lazio came closest as they hit the bar. Dempsey's goal was wrongly ruled offside.

68'
Replays showing that Dempsey got away from Klose in the box and was basically rugby tackled to the floor. Extra refs... doing nothing.

Clint Dempsey is a beast. Game winner against man u

Saw the game. I am happy he opened his account but he still doesn't look up to game speed and sharpness. I am guessing he was asked by AVB to drop off a bit deeper. But he was always in the right postion, for the first goal by Vertonghen and on his own winner. Spurs have a lot of pace upfront and Dempsey is not as fast as some of his team mates but with more minutes he will be alright.

Also Man U were terrible defensively.

So how come all of our strikers score at will for their club teams (Altidore, Dempsey, Boyd, etc.), but when they put on the US kit, they can't find the back of the net to save their lives? Is it just a lack of service or what?

The international level might be higher than the club level. A national team can choose from the best of the best that their nation has to offer, while on the club level they can't.

Here's what Klinsmann had to say:

"The Dutch league is very open -- he gets three or four chances a game. In international games, there's less space. It's hard to get chances; you have to create them yourself. Yes, you always want people to feed your strikers who are good at finishing, but on the other hand, when teams are locked in, you have to work, work, work and force your luck, and sooner or later you'll get rewarded for that. I think Jozy can do a lot better, and he knows that.

You don't think Altidore faces tougher competition in the Netherlands, the 6th-8th best league in Europe, than he does when facing Antigua, Guatemala, and Jamaica?
The US wouldn't have had a black hole at LB for almost a decade if they could just buy players...
