Japanese Persona fans rank their favorite characters in the series.

Let's be honest, the important thing is that Labrys is at the bottom, and rightly so.

Japan confirmed to have excellent taste.

What? that makes the list even awful. Didn't notice that.

Labrys is awesome. ;_;

Personality is fine, though she's by far the least developed of all the main characters in the series. Design is an absolute travesty and the worst thing Soejima has ever done. I can only assume it's so bad because he wasn't the art director on the project.

That's quite surprising.

I thought she was one of the best designed characters in the game. I don't see how it is a travesty at all.

Yukiko placing below Nanako is going to take time to come to terms with. At least she beat Rise.

What a strange first choice.
Allow me to be the only person who nominates Metis.

She's a crazy anime robot with a stupidly big weapon. Even though Aigis is also a robot, she's at least more down-to-Earth (and more Persona) in terms of design.

That's not bad at all. Makes her great and stand out.

First of all, that's not standing out. It is incredibly cliche.

Second of all, it's just not very 'Persona'. I have no interest in anime, and the reason I love Persona's art is because the characters are generally down to Earth and trendy.

That's why I hate Labrys.

*shrug* Stands out to me. :p

Not only we didn't need more robo-girls (or robo-boys, see the shitty Naoto novel), but Labrys fucking axe looks like it came out straight from World of Warcraft.

And then they added lights, rockets and made it a jetpack just to be more obnoxious.

I think the anime has helped shape the poll. I know I am in the minority, but Yukiko would be much higher on my list. (#2 right behind Chie). Chie on a motorcycle and Yukiko skiing... Can't get better than that. ;)

I think this is the first time someone describes Chie with "childhood friend". I just found her a likable female character with, in my personal case, traits and flaws that I really identify with it (specially in her Social Link).

And she was a fun character that set the mood that makes Persona 4 so special.

Maybe that was a bit of a leap, I have somehow associated best-buddy type girls with childhood friend (because they're also so close) I guess.
Being such a tomboyish character (sassy, picks fights, likes MA and stuff) and generally being more the buddy buddy type I couldn't help but feel that way. She's the perfect type of girl where you're like "yeah we were best friends first and then I realized she's a cute girl too!", you know, like with the childhood friend trope.
Not hating on her though btw. Even though I have to admit I didn't like her too much in the beginning (don't like the playground friend/comedic relief characters) throughout her storyline she grew on me.

Naoto auto-wins because detectives are awesome (and her storyline is interesting/funny with Kanji).
Also Rise is great because she very much resembles one of my favorite Idols. Wow there's even a Gamefaqs thread about that x.x

Nice to see Yukari at the bottom of the list where she belongs, but where is Maya? So the Japanese fans prefer a dog with wings to one of the best main characters in the series... ok :/ I'm glad Tatsuya is on the list at least.

Between Labrys and the new girl in Persona 4 Golden, I'm kind of worried about the character designs for Persona 5. :|
I was anti-Labrys until I did her chapter.

Now I concur she is great.
I suspect your reasons for liking her differ from Ken's.

It's a valid concern. Catherine's art and music was fantastic, but since then we've had Golden and Arena, both of which fail to live up to the previous work of their respective creators in any meaningful way.

I'm hoping it'll be alright though, because Hashino had no involvement in P4G and P4A, and Soejima and Meguro had dramatically reduced roles in both.

I think my main concern is that they don't highlight the anime aspects too strongly.

I've only played P3P thus far, but the series must be full of horrible characters if the dog is outranking other party members
lol, Junpei. Too American, I bet.

Surprised there's less love for Akihiko. The game tried to force him as being cool.

Because he is cool and totally dreamy.

I don't like those two designs that much either, but given the lighter tone of P4, a few anime-like designs aren't so out of place in that universe imo. Since they said they wanted to change things up for Persona 5, it will probably have a different look and atmosphere so hopefully those kind of designs won't carry over to P5.

i assume everyone who voted played through every Persona game?

worthless ranking if not.

There are Persona games other than P3/4?
/sarcasm

New audience are clearly out in force for this list, I'm disappointed but not surprised Japan, the inclusion of near-blank slate silent pcs in the list is even more bemusing.

Yukari low, Ken MIA...I'm okay with this.

And I'm pretty sure Yosuke scores so high because he's in a lot of slash fiction with Brotagonist.
