Fall 2012 Anime |OT| Meet the new world, same as the old world

That's an atrocious mermaid design.

I don't know. It has more character than most I've seen. The tail suggests it's based off of an atypical animal, which is good. It reminds me of the mermaids in One Piece, where each one is their own "breed" if real world marine life. I'd take that over the standard any day.

Dammit. Bad writing is bad writing.

In the West we have Ernest Cline and the rather excellent Ready Player One.

In Japan, they have Reki Kawahara and his cross over harem VR light novels.

I feel bad for Japan.

Specifically, how can Accel World be so much worse than SAO, when that's the series that came afterwards?

Ready Player One is a horrible read. Every other sentence is a direct reference to some shitty 80s tv show or movie. Let me open my book to a random page, 40,

After I beat Aech at three rounds of Tron: Deadly Discs, he threw down his Intellivision controller in disgust and grabbed a magazine off the floor. It was an old issue of Starlog. I recognized Ruter Haurer on the cover, in the Ladyhawke promotional photo.

"Starlog, eh?" I said, nodding my approval.
"Yep. Downloaded every single issue from the Hatchery's archive. Still working my wave through 'em. I was just reading this great piece on Ewoks: The Battle for Endor."
"Made for TV. Released in 1985," I recited. Star Wars trivia was one of my specialties. "Total garbage. A real low point in the history of the Wars."
"Says you, assface. It has some great moments."

The whole book is like that. More time is spent on the author wishing it was 1987 again than the actual story. The run down slum future and virtual world in RPO was pretty cool, but the whole thing is such an awful circlejerk to read through.

Hmmm. Dammit. I was going off impressions rather than personal opinion - only had time to read the first chapter last night. I'll see if I agree after I've read through the whole book.

What you just quoted was painful to read, like the visuals of Angel Beats somehow converted to literary form.

Wow. Is that just filler conversation or does it have a purpose?

Lohengramm is a cockpyre? Who would have known.

So in this episode:
Rupert-kun bit the bullet after a failed attempt to kill his dad, Phezzan's hubris proved to be their downfall, Julian became a hero, and Mittermeyer proved to be the coolest occupier evar.
Mittermeyer > Reuenthal

I'd heard bad things about Ready Player One, but I didn't expect it to be that bad.

I bet we can crowdsource a Ready Waifu One for massive $$$:

"Kanon, eh?" I said, nodding my approval.
"Yep. Downloaded every single episode from a perfectly legal and non-piratical internet archive. Still working my way through 'em. Might play the game later."
"Made for perverts. Released in 1999," I recited. KEY trivia was one of my specialties. "Total garbage. A real low point in the history of mankind."
"Says you, assface. It has some great moments."

The book takes place in like 2060 or so. The depletion of oil or something has turned the world into a shithole, and there's this paradise Virtual Reality. The creator of the VR was obsessed with the 80s, and when he died he hid the key to ownership of the VR in a giant 80s circlejerk scavenger hunt. The whole book is making 80s pop culture references mixed with a somewhat interesting future and VR world.

It's like if Borderlands 2 came out in 2030.

Lets not pretend RPO wasn't a glorified love letter to 80's culture, whose ultimate "moral" was "video games are no replacement for real life", whose idea of progressive storytelling is a gay African American female character, and whose protagonist becomes the single richest and most powerful man in the world by playing arcade games.

What if we combined Sword Art Online with Ready Player One?

After Kirito beat Asuna at three rounds of Tron: Deadly Discs, she threw down her Intellivision controller in disgust and grabbed a magazine off the floor. It was an old issue of NewType. Kirito recognized Lynn Minmay on the cover, in the Macross promotional photo.

"Newtype, eh?" Kirito said, nodding his approval.
"Yep. Downloaded every single issue from the Hatchery's archive. Still working my wave through 'em. I was just reading this great piece on Macross: Do You Remember Love."
"Opened in theaters. Released in 1984," Kirito recited. Macross trivia was one of his specialties. "Total garbage. A real low point in the history of Macross."
"Says you, assface. It has some great moments."

Kirito ran away crying bitter tears of sadness.

I should mention that the heroine is a GUUUUUUUURL GAMER who runs a popular blog and is e-famous. She hides behind her digital persona because shes severely insecure about her physical deformaties.*

A slight burn scar on her face.

Thank you blessed Kawahara for delivering us from this evil.

Kids today. No wonder the Alliance is in this state. Understaffed and impolite? Sieg Mein Kaiser indeed.
I actually laughed when people started dying due to working too much.

Man, I don't really get the Art direction on "K" the more I watch it, the background's pretty, the animation is good even in casual moment.. but that fucking fiter man, and they're trying too hard with camera angle and stuff. Few shot without that friggin' filter actually look good.

The director n art director for this just sucks.

The story itself remind me to Hong Kong comics, with the gangs fight but with super power.. I guess that isn't too bad for me.

But I like that gif :( Is it officially banned now?

It falls under the same guideline as every other gif meme. So for clarification, it is not so much a particular meme which is banned, but rather a moderation initiative to discourage the use of memes and one-liners which serve to negate debates or opinions by reducing them into pointless generalizations.

Hatersgonnahate, thisisneogafdude, etc are really just annoying dumb shit which we can do without. Since this is a fun community thread most of the time, I don't think it requires heavy moderation for every little thing. But that doesn't mean that we should let ourselves slip below a certain standard. :)

I hope that clears it up. I don't want to be a party pooper. :p

I suppose I'll survive.

You know that acquisition had to be done way before the show aired. Someone must really be regretting that move now. Can't imagine a show like that will bring in the ratings.

Meh, in not like the industry has incredibly high standards anyway. We are talking about the industry that eats shit like SAO/AW or Kyanus #3424 Moe anime about a girl with brain damage.

I guess I think the art style is alright, though won't keep me from watching, as a friend said as we watched "were in this for the cute guys smirking at cute guys doing cool things for the sake of it"

FUND IT NOW oh wise one.

I'm still kind of pissed that the Us version of SNO forte is DVD only when the first season was bluray. Oh but Im sure theyll fuck me over and release a bluray of forte later.
ahem.....anyway enough ranting. Last night was shitty at work as was this whole week so far so its time for some TLRD and Hidamari love.

Campione 11-13

OK build up an ending, though the intermediate world and Susano seemed kind of... pointless, in a way.
The kiss scene in episode 12 was amazing, they were basically fucking all just through a kiss. Awesome, simply awesome.
I found the conclusion in 13 nice mostly thanks to
Athena's kiss scene
, cementing Godou's pimp hand.

I wonder if there'll be a second season. I'd like to see more of this afterall since it was an enjoyable watch.

"waaaaaaai!" My new fav Hidamari moment after the "Yunocchi"-scene in the first episode of x 365.

Can't wait to see the finished version of the OP.
