I'm still kind of pissed that the Us version of SNO forte is DVD only when the first season was bluray. Oh but Im sure theyll fuck me over and release a bluray of forte later.
ahem.....anyway enough ranting. Last night was shitty at work as was this whole week so far so its time for some TLRD and Hidamari love.
>.>
Wasn't it announced a while back? Or maybe they looked @ the manga and realized, fuck we changed too much shit, fuck it.

Yeah I think so. Nothing new since then though sadly.
It definitely does.
Pretty old show though. Well before the HD era.
IT WILL NEVER LEAVE

Technically we are getting that, no? At least the same staff for the most part.
Yeah, see, that's not a technicality. We would technically be getting Spice and Wolf 3 if a show called Lawrence and Holo's Continuing Adventure was released and continued the story but for some odd reason couldn't use the name, a slightly similar setup with the same main VAs however is not near technically the same.

looks kind of like nick cage

I can't say I'm comfortable with that association. Trung is a pretty cool guy.

Zetsuen, despite it's high production values, really feels all over the place. The way they introduced
Black Iron syndrome
and the way Yoshino reacted to it was especially weak. With so many different concepts to introduce it's no wonder I guess.

Zetsuen no Tempest - 1

Not a bad start. I'm not a huge fan of the original character designs, too generic, but BONES have done a good job of making them look better, but at times they still didn't look up to par with the usual BONES standards. This is especially noticeable whenever Samon was on screen (thank god it wasn't often), I really hate his design.
What, exactly, are the usual BONES standards? Naru from Eureka Seven AO? The cast of Star Driver?

The only thing I'll mention about the flow of time in Zetsuen no Tempest is that how episode 1 was done was very deliberate and intentional. If some people find certain things a bit confusing, it is also deliberate. Not that this makes it a good (or bad) thing automatically, but within the first 10 episodes or so, it'll be possible to revisit how the earlier episodes were done to discuss some of the choices made in presentation.

Remember, this is a mystery thriller after all. Sometimes confusion and misdirection is part of the intent of the presentation. I don't want to really go into any details because I don't want to spoil anything for those who didn't ruin stuff for themselves by reading the manga.

I don't think people really expected to be challenged or confused by a series that they are watching. Most of the time I assume, usually with good cause, that if something's hard to follow then it's the fault of the director, rather than a deliberate move on the part of the director to place the audience in a certain space.

For example, the first episode of Steins;Gate is filled with unnecessarily bad editing and cinematography, which I found off-putting. It felt like they had a feeling they wanted to impart but didn't know the best way to go about pulling that off. On the flip side, the first episode of Infinite Ryvius is extremely confusing because we don't know, exactly, what's going on but that's because there's a lot of things the audience isn't being told - a choice which was clearly designed to make the audience feel as confused as the characters in the show.

which is the unnecessarily bad editing in the first episode of steins;gate specifically? I don't remember anything standing out as being offensive

Dash across the ocean Gundam! Athrun is pretty silly and funny, and firm in his resolve. Really needs more screentime. Cagalli had potential but then second half, why :/
She had the gun and was so close then gave up. Ultimately, better than Flay and I cant wait to see what part Cagalli has in the larger plot as a whole, in terms of Orb
.

I hope Kira and Athrun run into each other next episode.

Watching this makes me want to rewatch Fafner.

Paranoia Agent 13 - END

Well, that about wraps it up.

I'm not really sure where to start with this episode. I feel like it would have been stronger without the blunt monologue at the end of episode 11. The ideas could have stood on their own more through the show's visual language.

In terms of craft, this episode was great. I love how
the Chief's "ideal world"
was portrayed. The heavy outlines and cardboard figures evoke the post-war advertisement look really well, yet they somehow manage to mesh surprisingly well with the rest of the show's art direction. And as the episode reached its frantic peak, I was glued to the screen. The callbacks to earlier parts of the show were a little obvious, but they didn't drag down the sequence's energy.

What's the matter, Truman? Is something wrong?

Even if I wouldn't say that I found it predictable how
the end of the show essentially loops back to the beginning,
the way it was handled, with the
recreation of the opening montage, combined with an even more heavy-handed "episode preview",
was a bit too obvious for me. Maybe that's because I was already keyed, from what I had heard before watching, to how the show was critiquing society. Perhaps to someone who was just taking things as they came, a slap on the head like that might have been necessary.

Of the shows I watched with Ultimadrago during this backlog season, Paranoia Agent is the one I struggle the most with. Perhaps it could be described as my "least favorite", but that feels unfair given the ambition on display. After a superb set of opening episodes that compare favorably to just about any other TV anime, Paranoia Agent loses the realism that made it so effectively enthralling and disturbing. It retains its pointed, critical eye, and while Happy Family Planning takes a different tone from the rest of the series, its black humor was excellent. But the plot that was once an effective framing device begins to swallow the whole show like The Blob, and the more incredible and abstract it becomes, the harder it gets to relate to the society it portrays. Dark satire and real-world horror give way to something closer to a farce or a science fiction drama.

I think the show handles the direction it takes admirably, and the final few episodes are extremely well-executed, culminating in a climax that would be at home in any of Kon's films. But I think the show might have left a stronger impression on me if it had taken a more open-ended, episodic approach to the second half of the series, particularly the final quarter. What it was doing at first was really unique, and the only other show I know of that aimed for anything similar was Trapeze, which I don't think was able to reach the same highs.

Perhaps I'm just nitpicking. It's always easier to sound critical of a show that aims high and doesn't quite match the incredible expectations it sets than it is to critique a show that tries to achieve something simple and succeeds. I'm glad I watched this series, and it reminds me that I need to try and watch Tokyo Godfathers when I find the time.

what happened?

I always thought the CG in those shows was terrible, even at the time. Ah well.

What "happened" is that people continued to try and blend traditional 2D animation with CG, and this doesn't often work. You can't tar everything with the same brush, though - if you looked at, say, the in-game engine work on Ni no Kuni PS3, few people would complain if that quality of CG art was in an anime.

It's KEY, do you really need it?

You can probably guess the ending and the plot developments from the story summary on mal.

The VN has been translated, it's probably not a good idea to go looking for story summaries unless you want to get spoiled.

But the first episode is probably about how this group of childhood friends formed this group called the Little Busters, but now they want to form a baseball team but don't have enough members.

It doesn't take much to be a better character than Flay. Fortunately, SEED Cagalli is a pretty good character imo. SEED Destiny Cagalli, though...you'll see when you get there.

Also, Fafner just got a BD release so I was thinking of giving it another shot. Didn't do a lot for me the first time around, but that was several years ago.

I was more interested in how much they've covered and how the pacing is and stuff. I've already completed the visual novel so I know what to expect. For those who have also played it, I heard they cover a lot of the minigame stuff too, so I was wondering if it was all pushed into this episode.

You quite enjoy been a scab-picking jerk don't you? This is the second time you've crossed referenced that thread at random.

It's not random when it's on topic! There's an anime about the fascist utopia you envisioned! You mean you aren't excited or proud of that? :p

Your are probably more accurate in terms of meaning, my Japanese sucks and I was just roughly trying to translate the words, though I'm not sure of he exact use of まあまあ tbh.

BTOOOM - 01

Wow that was uh... hmm...

Such a wierd episode, the premise feels like Bandwagoning on SAO and Accel World to a degree, where guy is all I'm a 22 year old NEET and I'm awesome at this game, then it suddenly cuts to him being parachuted to somewhere and now the game he's so awesome at has now become a real life Call of Duty with the Grenade only settings option on.

And for a good 95% of this show was nothing but monologuing, that's a looot of monologuing.

Do you think the first episode of Madoka is particularly confusing or challenging? Because that's the level of "confusion" we're talking about here. The show establishes what is going on pretty quickly, and there's nothing particularly strange about it. There's a specific choice made in presenting a specific order of events at the start of the episode, and there's a reason for that.

Have you even watched it?
