Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

Here is to hoping that Halo 5 lets us build custom BSPs

PC Tools to 720 Export. Perfect!

I would be really interested to see why they made these choices in Forge. Seems like they learned very little from Reach. Yay some Magnets! Copy & Paste! Woo!

I think forge for Halo 4 was a huge swing and a miss.

Yup. Also, since the griffball arena was built in, couldn't they have made it look a little better? I mean it looks like it was made in Forge anyways.

I find it odd that is has to be in a big boring box. Outdoor Grifball anyone? Actually, I don't care about Grifball, so just give them a box to mess around in. Don't bother adding it to a current map.

Honestly they could do this but I feel like MS is the limiting factor in that equation. I remember the PS3 version of UT3 had a lot more features than the 360 version because of MS not wanting user created content like that on their platform.

There were a ton of great map makers on Halo Custom Edition.

Exactly. I'd prefer if i could have differently colored floor, gray and gray is not exactly ideal.

Now i don't actually have much use for superflats so it won't be much of an issue in the end for me, i just hate not having the option for it.
The Coliseum in Halo Reach FW doesn't count, it was an inside area, all gray and had poor lighting.

EDIT oh and i hate building above ground level. No one of my tries turned out to be working, takes way too many pieces.

I just wanted to point out it is still possible to create a flat environment. But i do understand and apprciate others concerns about forge. I also agree with them.

covenant maps suck.

Seems odd that it was for UT3, which pretty much bombed.

Halo is MS's massive franchise, so loosening up for Halo Community stuff would seen like a no-brainer.

Another missed opportunity for whatever technical reason. Should have been able to build a base (or at least a large section of it), copy the whole thing, and paste it on the other side of the map. Boom, Warlock made in a quarter of the time. But nnnnooooooOOOOOOOooooo :-/

I feel like Forge is purposely taking baby steps when it doesn't need to.

It seems like they have been attempting the opposite. Freedom outside of their domain, but when it comes to their unique IP they are locked down.

Do we know you can't do this? What if you build, magnetize, lock, and then select? Does that allow the copypasta?

Yeah. I'm sure people would love to be able to model and texture a map on the PC and then export it to the 360 to place weapons and spawns with Forge.

Imagine being able to play on a remake this close to the original in Forge:
This was created from scratch.

Well, I went through the trouble of making a screenshot, then remembered Waypoint is down for maintenance :p

Judging by the video and the size of the window when he passes through it in Monitor mode, I believe the central structure on Impact is about 7 WUs tall. So go into Reach, make a Hill Marker Cylinder with 7 Height and about 6 Radius. That seems to be the size of the base on Impact. It's fairly big.

I'm actually pretty stoked on the new Forge environments. All the different terrain will allow a lot more maps that look and play different than the standard 100% forge piece maps. Using the landscape as part of the map will alleviate a lot of the "everything is grey" problems. Of course, a simple flat area on at least one of the forge environments would be nice too.

343 could have done a better forge reveal. not to compare them to bungie, but instead of seeing new pieces and cool new things that were made, we get a basic walk through of empty maps, with 5 seconds of actual gameplay...on an all white map. maybe that's why im unimpressed by H4 forge

that's not to say 343 doesn't have a BTS video in the works, but this got me alot more hyped than what gamespot released.

(yes bungie's forge maps are broken)

Lockout and Midship: two maps that we will never be able to play again because of how terrible they would be with sprint as a default armor ability

Try properly forging a map when every object is curved.

yep.

----------------------------------------

it wouldnt be natural to forge with covenant theme because you need forge pieces to be symmetrical as much as possible

just imagine all the BUILDING BLOCKS we have now, but in purple

you really want
1x1 Purple Block
3x1 Thin Purple Ramp
5x5 Purple Wall
Wall Coliseum PURPLE

There are only two maps in H2 that I don't like: Backwash and Desolation.

I like desolation :(

I could tear apart every H2 map. Gemini is the worst one for me though, because it's pretty one dimensional. It's like the Prisoner of Halo 2, only good for one gametype. The fact that it's a remake didn't really help it.

sorry you aren't hyped but I'll take a higher quality game over higher quality marketing

Gemini, aka grab sniper and book your ass through the teleporter to hide. One guy on each outer door (that are impossible to sneak up to) with the shotguns that spawn 10 feet away, one BR guy watching teleporter and shifting from door to door, and sniper out on the arms wasting anything that comes through because you couldn't see anything but the top of his head. Once a decent team did that, your only real way to retaliate is either rush one of the doors or teleporter with your entire team and pray they don't catch on fast enough, or wait for the game to end. Awful map.

Few people realize that. Gemini was a ton of fun for Oddball, FFA, and Team Slayer.

Each piece could have a curved side and a hard edged side.. Not all pieces would have to adhere strictly to past Covenant designs, only be inspired from them. The pieces could be similar to the Forerunner pieces with just a little extra Covenant flair. It would also be nice because it would give a completely different look and feel for maps.

YOU NEED SQUARES DUDE

dude, you need squares.

I'll forgive this one time. That was the beginning of CA's obsession with tons of weapons/overshields on the map.

no argument there my friend

That Halo Reach forge vidoc still hypes me even though I already know how it turned out lol.

I dont think anyone did take advantage of the sheer space behind forgeworld though - would have been cool if there was a map that somehow allowed the combat to use more of the geometry without just being boring.

EDIT: I never really saw things like allowing the hog to be the hill work out that well as a custom gametype. I still think theres a hell of a lot of untapped potential there. It really is a shame the stock gameplay was so poor otherwise I imagine more people would have been more hyped to really push it to its limits.
