CD Projekt press conference [over]

Streamlining isn't an inherently bad thing at all. It's just that in the past several years it's been used as a euphemism for dumbing down, so it's taken on a negative connotation.

It's possible to condense and organize things in a way that doesn't take anything substantial from the game and just makes it more intuitive to play. A lot of games we view as classics these days did just that relative to their antecedents.

Nowadays, of course, it typically just means the game is dumber in its single-minded attempts at wider appeal, but it doesn't necessarily have to be so.

I just found this thread, is the first post going to get updated with what was announced/said about Cyberpunk?

Everything that you need to know is that is gonna come out in 2014 for PC and nextgen and:

Fricking great conference and news all around.

What's there to not love about GOG?

Well, there is the lack of expansions for EA titles. :(

At least we finally just got the other big feature I was hoping for eventually, OSX support with no additional cost for already purchased titles.

To say anything about the first Witcher is better than the second.

I've learned new things today.
Many things, actually, and that'c coming from me: someone who preferred the second one overall.
Just read the official forum and you will learn that a substantial vocal minority of players prefer the first one by far.

Junior, please.
Sandbox cyberpunk? CD Projekt is basically making my dream game. I can't believe it, I'm so excited.

Wishlist:
Proper hacking with a "cyberspace" style environment
Michael McCann style soundtrack

... and from the sounds of things I can pretty much trust them to take care of the rest. This is going to be incredible.

This... I just hope there's free roaming with vehicles as well. One thing I really hope for. It's funny because a couple of weeks ago I tweeted a cyberpunk sandbox game would be my dream game, for an open world setting. Looks like it's being done now! :D

First one is good, don't get me wrong. But how can you not like the second one better?

First one didn't get good until about the 3rd chapter.
Combat and fidelity have improved to a ridiculous degree.

You could probably argue that the first one you had more decisions and they had huge effects on the story.

My body is ready.

Cyberpunk sounds really interesting, Witcher 2 was fantastic, I can't wait to see what CDPR can pull off next.

I'm going to lather myself up in peanut butter and play The Witcher 2 while Blade Runner is on in the background.

Gonna be a good night.

Vehicles are most important! I hope they're going to put some customizations into that too.
I want to reproduce my Skyline R39!

So, yeah. Why the fuck is my Witcher 2 downloading a 16 gig update on Steam? Already had the enhanced edition, so I'm guessing this is some kind of bug due to them adding mac support?

They've already said their upcoming projects are targeting PC and next-gen consoles, so all you "console release automatically = dumbed down" folks better strap in!

Jesus Christ, I might as well just type up pre-prepared rants and raves about being dumbed down into Notepad and save them for the future because I already see I'll need them.

It's not a bug, it's just the way they have to do it. Which obviously sucks for people who don't even own a Mac.

You know what, the new Mac DOS games are really easy to change and turn it into a DOSBox wrapper. I just set up the Commander Keen games from Steam and it's perfect :D

your stupid prejudice matter, that's for sure.
You have no idea of what you are talking about, as it's often the case with you.
I don't think you have any idea of what "my prejudices" can be.

I won't even discuss how RAM affected all console releases from IW and Thief to Dishonored and so on
You don't have to. First, because I probably understand the topic better than you, and second because IT DOESN'T MATTER.
Hardware limitations are not the reasons some games are designed with "ease of access" in mind.
Prejudices of publishers and developers about "what the audience want" are.

Beside, the gap in available RAM between next gen consoles and the average gaming PC will probably exist anyway over the next years.

Then again we are on GAF, where many people would prefer to pierce their own eyes than admit that "the medium is the message" and platforms of choices DO have an influence over the design process. Even in front of the evidence.
In fact you can just enter the XCOM thread to read many users ready to swear that this new game "isn't be simplified by a bit over the old one", which is simply delusional.

as I said earlier you are just stuck in time not seeing forest for the trees and boiling down the essence of games to stuff like UI, small details which totally don't matter unless the game preserves its core. It's ok, you are not the only one.

And it's not hard to have any idea of your prejudices because almost every your post contains them. Basically every person who thinks that one platform is superior to the other is simply wrong. I think some people can't think in terms of "different", their brain is wired to binary "worse/better". Well, whatever.

But you are completely wrong. They matter. A lot.
And "being unable to see the the forest through the trees" is just your delusional (and probably self-reassuring) conviction, by the way.
Some of us are perfectly capable to pay attention to both.

I wonder how TW2 will run on my Retina MacBook Pro. My old PC laptop couldn't handle TW2 so never bought it, but I really want to play it.

Or I'll wait until I build myself a good gaming desktop PC next year.

So, is Chris Avellone also not seeing the forest for the trees?
