The way people are posting you would think that Evilore took Tony out behind the shed and put a bullet in his head.
And then said "cheers this motherfucker."
But seriously, people make it sound like deals are gonna go away now or something. It's bizarre.
That MGS4 OT. Now that I think about it. It was a lot of scrolling to get the information you want.the borderlands 2 thread is not bloated.
this is what a "bloated" ot looks like, and under the new rules we wont see them again

Just a link to a wiki? I had one hell of a laugh reading that OP.
Is the OP serious?
LovingSteam's poorly-formatted and three-months-premature Uncharted 2 OT also deserves a mention.
I plan on adding a whole lot to it as time goes on.
Look at the posts linked.
One guy expresses regret that he missed a deal on NFS. Tony responds that amazon has NFS:HP and Burnout for a cheap price. labels them as non-steam. Second post is letting folks know that they're running a big EA sale. EA games barely go on-sale on steam and some don't even get sold on that platform anymore. Might be good info for steam users to have that they might not have gotten elsewhere. Third post linked and hey, seems people were talking about SSTFAE and a sale for it. Tony mentions Amazon will have it and DR2:OTR on sale. Clearly states it's non-steam.
He didn't mislead anyone. It's not like he was some dude spamming the thread with affiliate links looking to make quick cash. His username clearly labeled him as an amazon employee and he was upfront consistently that they were non-steam versions.
Are you going to argue that he shouldn't try to cut in on Valve's turf by offering alternative deals, some being better than steam, and useful to numerous people who again might have never seen them otherwise? Would it have been better if he asked a user to post them there for him? That would have seem super skeezy to me, personally.
At least with his username and post history, you know he can't be anything but transparent and has backed off when told what he was doing wasn't cool. I think him getting permabanned was a little much but it isn't up to me. All I hope is that the forum integrity and voice of the many is consistent from here on out.
Yeah, permabanned.Tony is gone?
If people got permmed for bad thread ideas, how do you explain the OT?Damn, really sad to see Tony go. Seemed like a really cool dude and interacting with people about the Amazon deals and even taking feedback about what sort of deals people were interested in was great.
All that being said, I can understand the outcome. A permaban is harsh, but what he was proposing seemed like a pretty bad idea so I'm not completely shocked.
To be quite honest, the Steam thread has the added purpose of serving as the "PC Gaming |OT|". So a post there will probably not be missed, while the same can't be said for any other PC-related thread. It should help if the thread title (and OP) was changed to reflect that, and a new Steam-only thread was made, to talk about sales and nothing more.He was extremely helpeful in the Amazon thread (and other Amazon related threads) and I think that was the appropriate for him to talk about deals.
But in those specific cases you're talking about a corporate employee entering a thread dedicated to a competing service to try and sell his product over the competition.
No matter how nicely he comes off that's what it was at the end of the day.
It was already dubious when he did it with Steam-enabled titles, but doing so with non-Steam titles was extremely out of place.
It's really is a shame he was permabanned as I think he had his place on Gaf listening to the community and helping out people with issues they had, but he did walk a thin-line at several points (such as those Steam posts) and unfortunately yesterday he crossed a line tha the rules were very explicitaly about.
You know, if this is the URSS then I want my free vodka. I demand it, dammit!Yeah, permabanned.
Just saw someone in that CAG thread call GAF's moderation Stalinist. Making a whole a lot of sense all of a sudden...the oppression, the red names....bunch of commie scum!
Whats wrong with OTs? Or are you just referring to the huge convoluted ones?Should've banned the absurd OTs instead.
We've already had the Community Manager for Square Enix give swag to someone for their outstanding OT.
Tony had to have known the consequence. I hate that he's perm'd, but Evilore is protecting the integrity of site, like Mik said. Although I'm with the mercy idea too.

Yeah. I was reading it wrong. I wasnt sure if he if he was referring the absurd OTs or if he thought OTs were absurd in generalSince he said the absurd ones, I think you can guess which one he means.
Yeah. I was reading it wrong. I wasnt sure if he if he was referring the absurd OTs or if he thought OTs were absurd in general
Yeah, what the fuck. Talk about bloated OTs elsewhere.
Nope, go back to the Gulag |OT|.Great now I'm being oppressed here too. I thought the Steam thread people were the only authoritarian fascists with their rules for what can be posted in a thread.
Now I can't talk about marketing in a marketing thread?

Really curious what that means. You'll have no reason not to buy The Darkness II in a few short hours.
You can register on CAG and still do 2. and 3. He's not dead.It was because of Tony that we even noticed the deals in the first place.
It was because of tony that specific things went on sale.
It was because of tony that he gave out free dlc and EU3 complete to the community among other things.

Tony confirmed it on CAG.So is Tony perm'd?

I wouldn't like to have some EA rep tell me you can get ME1 for 2 bucks on Origin either, if it was in the Steam thread. There are places for these things for a reason. Are you saying you don't want competition when it helps the consumer? As much as I love steam, I don't want steam to be a monopoly. Anything whatsoever that helps the community and customers is a good thing.

The Darkness 2 has been on sale for like 7.50 before. Better be like $5
Sure. If I was browsing a PS3 RPGs thread and someone recommended Xenoblade, that wouldn't be helpful at all, because I don't own a Wii. Same deal here.Well that is only because the games don't activate on Steam, no other reason really.

If you were a regular frequenter of this thread before Tony showed up you would know that deal info that was mentioned here rested entirely on Nelo, who wasn't always around, or the few others that bothered to check all the latest posts over there and then take the time to repost them here, which didn't always happen. Personally, I found it to be a breath of fresh air to have him show up and replace the tedious stuff that some of us were having to do. It made it easier for the community here to simply voice their opinions/requests/problems and have an immediate fix by someone who had the power to fix or change things. People had immediate feedback, they will not here in this thread in the future.Really curious what that means.

The deals will still find their way here, I wouldn't worry about that.
