Tycho's thoughts on Halo 4 from Penny Arcade (not from Ben's review) are pretty hype-grabbing.

Penny Arcade said:
I told you that I would never take a job at 343 Industries, because their task was impossible; it’s all the more startling, then, that they managed to accomplish it.

It’s the best Halo campaign of the series, I don’t think there’s really going to be much of a debate there. Because the human brain is a Goddamned, stupid anachronism and barely up the fucking task, if Halo 4 had simply been as good as the previous games it would have been a failure. It is, in actual fact, a game that will make you give a shit about Halo. I had more narrative buy-in after the first ten minutes than any other game in the series managed to generate by the end.

When Bungie checked one of these things in, their games were “Halo” virtually by definition. That wasn’t the case for this team. They had to earn it. And by God, they did.

Is anyone looking forward to seeing the Classic Matchups?!

Classic TD (I didn't even know SK still played) VS Classic Str8.

@Cyren, I just checked out THC 2.0 - Looks fantastic.

Do you remember the old MLG website which had top threads, and top videos on the front page? I always enjoyed watching the most viewed uploaded clips just for curiosity and interests' sake. I think that would be a great addition to THC 2.0 because everyone loves to see awesome halo clips, and I know I would love somewhere where I can see the community showcasing their talents all in one place. Just an idea when I clicked on the video section. Theres a lot of potential to that site. Awesome job.

Thanks, yea i'll look into that<3

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

I believe it is going to be around 5. But don't quote me.

Aim for 6pm EST from what I'm hearing.

Love your avatar.
Taa. :) I saw it at the end of FuD and thought to snag it before anyone else did.
Another cool feature of recent CoD games is the Mercenary playlists, where only singles can join the matches.
Yeah, that was pretty cool. They also have the 'no parties' (voice chat... you know what I mean) playlists I think, which I think H4 could benefit from. So many people are in parties these days. No one to talk to.

God, FUD was AWESOME. That was seriously rad. And someone got the Cortana avatar already! :( Damn

You could make one out of these:

How are they doing that? Booting you from the playlist if you're in a party? The only thing Dark Souls could do to prevent party chat was boot you from the game to dashboard if you started party chat.

Outstanding work on Forward Unto Dawn. The whole of Episode 5 was fantastic.

Can't wait to see Lasky and Chief interacting in the game now.

Probably not unexpected, but I'm not seeing anything about the encounter design in any of the reviews. They're all talking about the story, grahpics, framerate, storytelling – and so on – but nothing about encounters, at least from what I've seen. Encounters are the bread and butter of the Halo campaigns. They're the most important element for me.

Real people don't care about our nerd intrest. It's about the pixels, bro.

I agree with you guys to a point. Story is something I've been wanting more and more though. Each Halo game has good to great encounters, so I was less worried about that. Tycho's mention of there being more story hooks in the first 10 minutes of Halo 4 than in the whole other games is what grabs me. I've always liked the games' stories but they always felt super shallow. I love the books and extended fiction, so I am very glad Halo 4 has much more depth within the game itself.

Please, PLEASE stop talking about features that a lot of players are requesting that were present in an earlier entry in the series almost a decade ago. You whiners are RUINING the game for me.

Yes; if you try to enter the playlists (I forget which ones they have that set up on, they're ones I never play) you'll get a dashboard prompt saying that you need to leave the Party Chat to enter the playlist. I've never understood why they bothered; if they're trying to make people not "work together" to circumvent a gametype, it's not like people aren't just going to use skype or any other of a million means of communicating outside of the game.

Could anyone find me that picture comparing all the Halo 4 helmets that was posted a couple days ago? I cannot seem to find it.

Certainly, the amount of story/narrative presence discussion in reviews is really high, especially for a Halo game.
But when it comes to the Campaign gameplay, what most seem to be talking about is that it's very similar to previous campaigns, with some new enemies and cool new tricks, but also a lot of the same Covenant encounters you've had for a decade (e.g. the Giantbomb review).

What parts did you think had great scripting?

The sequence with the camouflaged Elite before Chief shows up in Episode 4.
The end sequence when the Covenant arrive in Episode 3.
There's a couple others, but I can't remember them right off the top of my head.

There's nothing like that in the finale. I am genuinely stunned by how abruptly bad it was.

Seriously. There's no sense in complaining about things that might come back in a possible TU in the not-so-distant but not-so-close future, the contents of which may or may not include ranks and campaign theater. Perhaps.

The only "classic" team that I could get excited for would be Final Boss with OGRE1, OGRE2, Walshy, and some random scrub.

In other news the Forward Unto Dawn series was great. Very well done for what it was. Can't wait to see how it all ties into campaign.

So it seems like Assists are on a slider now? You get +5 Assist for a single shot from the BR. Or +10 Assist for more damage.

Meh - it may just be adding two assists together to get the +10. But it is nicer to see the +5 come in for 20% damage (one BR burst).

Not really, Halo 4 is already packed to the limit as far as I'm concerned, and to me being able to retrieve the data using my phone or laptop is far simpler than navigating through an in game screen, especially if I want to check a new opponents KD or win loss ratio in the middle of the game. Stop being lazy

Is this an honest response to the complaint about stat tracking?

Oddball seems like a poor choice on that map (Solace). What did you guys think of Extraction? Seems a bit weird that a new gametype isn't available at launch for MP.

...and what the hell is that weird gurgling noise on Solace? I thought it was originally part of Flood mode, but I've heard it several times now outside of the gametype.

Halo 4 KOTH Adrift Gameplay - http://youtu.be/2r3cJEoytjY
So much unnecessary dialog. Seriously. I heard the gurgling noise here too, so it must not be map related (not talking about the shield recharge modem noise). It's the last noise you hear in the match.

Hills with direct cover in them, it's Bungie all over again. I hope that map doesn't actually show up in the KotH playlist, David. I doubt a map as segmented as Adrift will play well with that gametype.
I don't really see an issue with hill placement on Adrift. *shrug*

This machinima stream is painful. Between the guy never calling in his ordnance drops and the guys going for double melee kills I'm going to start screaming.

The only viable place that it looks decent on is Haven, and that's with two comparable teams. Not feeling these two gametypes on maps far larger than previous games. You see Oddball thrive on maps like Warlock and Midship, not on Sanctuary. King is another. I suppose it won't matter a whole lot as those playlists will be dead within months.

This sounds like me as well. In general it sounds like 343 is going the tight integration route between it's other multimedia properties. Which I personally think is a good direction for the franchise.

Remind me again why we can't lower the Steitzer chatter to about half?

I just don't understand why 343 thought this was something that needed to be changed.

Agreed. Seems like Relay is the best choice for Oddball, and unfortunately it's not even in the hoppers.

Take into account that this footage is of game code that ISN'T final, as described on the site and in the video descriptions.

As for Extraction, I didn't play it myself.

We need to accomodate blind people who want to play also.

And every video I've seen confirms my fear from months ago that strafing is still too sluggish.
