Halo 4 |OT| Spartans Never Die

I just hope they get more than a max of the 16 players online they have had since Halo 2. Maybe they can up it to 18, MAYBE?

For what it's worth, Reach was originally planned to have more players in a game for a gametype they were trying to implement, but it was dropped later on. As it was, we only had one map big enough in Reach to feasibly support more than 16 players without it turning into a spotfest, and that was Boneyard.

343 should remember that more players never automatically equals better, and they'll need to have maps large enough to accomodate the player count.

If that is true then it would have been great for 343 to explain that in the commendation description.
Yeah, that would help. They are probably assuming we already know since it has been that way forever. Personally I have known that since Halo 3. If it was any game mode, I would have like 3 a match from playing CTF and going 52 and 3.

SWAT is the kittens meow. Put it wherever the hell you want, I'll find it.

It is fun as shit in this game.

In other news, Nilla and his crew have 9, I repeat NINE, of the best Halo 2 maps either built or near completion. :)

I'll play SWAT again after they take Complex out of the list.

Just beat Legendary solo last night

Have to say, probably one of the easier campaigns on Legendary. Second half of the campaign actually went far quicker than the first half.

The key is strategy. Keep your distance and always have a long range weapon on you. Pick them off at range.

Starting an easy run today, my 3rd playthrough. Such a great campaign.

So solo Legendary was your... 2nd playthrough?

Nope. Doesn't count ;]

i hated it so much in reach that I didn't think it would be good in 4, but I should try it now that the BR is back

My initial reaction about the campaign were luke warm at best. The biggest let down was definetly the story and music. While not bad it is basically interchangeable. It's standard Hollywood fare, which again isn't bad, but to me it definetly lacks personality.
Graphics really surprised me. The detail on characters and spartans looks outstanding. Hats off to the designers and engineers at 343.

Also, what idiot at 343 thought that recording a car on a dyno and using that whining sound for the Warthog was a good idea. I never use it because it simply sounds ridiculous. I constantly feel like my warthog is floating.

I'm also a bit let down that Spartan Ops is basically fire fight with dialogue. At least so far the chapters are very lazy, reusing campaign content and revisiting the same locales over and over... yeah, I expected more to be honest. Still the cutscenes are very high quality and actually have some humour in them.

MP is great, even if BTB are a mess. The Mantis is basically broken and unless you play with a team of friends the experience is simply horrible. With friends it improves dramatically though.

Well it's only going to be up for another week.

I think the Ordinance is a good idea but I think the maps need more power weapons out there by default, too, even if they have slower respawn times than they did in Halo 3/Reach. The problem right now is how much of every match defaults to DMR/BR on DMR/BR distance shooting until somebody gets something else in play via Ordinance. Ragnarok is a race for the Spartan Laser, Rocket Launcher and Sniper Rifle, for instance, but these are gone relatively quickly as they all have low ammo (and in two cases should be reserved for vehicles) and basic man-to-man combat is as described before. The few weapons out on the map by default are a start, but more are definitely needed, I think.

I'm also not really clear on... how does the game determine ordinance options? Is it entirely random? Is it set per map? I think the system would perhaps be improved if two of the three options were user-set, based on some sort of points value. Imagine the weapons split into three different 'levels'... for instance left can be up to something like a Rocket Launcher/Laser/Sniper, Down can be up to something like a Shotgun or Needler, and right is something random that the game picks.

Also feel like the Halo 'triforce' of Guns, Grenades and Melee is slightly damaged by how grenades are handled, as without that Resupply perk you spend so much time without them that they become a less reflexive part of your game. That's certainly happened to me, at least.

How can anyone enjoy a game named Halo but isn't exactly like my favorite version of Halo? You must be a bk. Learn to play real Halo n00b!

I really enjoy Halo 4 and feel the changes while different add interesting dynamics to the sandbox. I have been playing Halo since the original, online and off. It is probably my most played game, multiplayer or not, ever. Sure not everything is perfect, but the things I want changed are small or cosmetic and are no more glaring than any previous games issues.

I don't even care!

You won't like it if that's the gun you plan on using. DMR owns here too. LR and Carbine might be fun additions though.

Yeah but we've got like 40 custom maps were about to dump into the IS playlist so people will probably be begging for SWAT back soon.

:)

So what AAs do people recommend using for Infinity Slayer? I've been using the PV to counter camo users or the shield. I like the shield a lot for a boost in protection but drives me nuts that it doesn't autostand if you're crouching, so if you attempt to use it while crouching it does nothing.

Those maps on nilla's Fileshare? Also, what.. into the MM playlist?

I don't understand why they'd design it like that ;[

i've said it over and over again, but regen. someone gets the jump on you and takes your shields down a few notches? escape around cover and pop them for instant shield recharge. finish someone off in a one on one with low shields? pop it off and get instant recharge so that your prepared for his teammates thinking they'll get an easy clean up kill. once i started using regen, my debate on which AA to use was solved instantly. it kicks ass and always allows you to be ready for a fight.

EDIT: but.... you have to be standing for regen too :(

Hologram is my personal favorite. I can't believe how many people fall for it... again and again...

Maybe close range, but the maps are still pretty big and long distance DMR wins a lot more often than the BR will.

Given that 6/10 matches of SWAT are played on Haven and then the other 4 are divvied up between the other maps available, I'm still gonna stick with my statement.

I'm going to try and "reboot" the Prometheans with more ranks between species, more actual species, a few new weapons, maybe vehicles, etc. over the next few weeks. Here's a preview, mind the doodling.

General Grievous lives! I hope he uses his four limbs to turn himself into a chopper and fly away instead of teleport.

What's this about SWAT going away? Why?
It was never promised to be a permanent playlist. Expect 343 to test the waters the first few weeks, which means they will have to remove playlists to gauge interest without the player base being too diluted to infer anything.

I like this. What's with the skull with 4 eyes, though?

Finally finished the campaign.
First the good.

The graphics are fantastic and its so great to see the Halo art given the engine it deserves. Character animations and the overall color is absolutely gorgeous. Also I loved the story and the development of Chief and Cortana. I love these two characters so it was great to focus the whole narrative around them.

That being said though outside of ODST this is easily the most lackluster campaign from a gameplay pov. It feels like 3 steps back from where Bungie left the series. Gone are the expansive epic battles instead the game offers very tight areas for your firefights. Reclaimer is the highlight of the whole game but even it doesn't even touch the kind of fights we had in H3. By the time the credits were rolling I was really disappointed. Maybe 343 just wanted to make sure they had the core feeling down before venturing into new territory but I couldn't help but feel that the game played it really really safe.

Also this had to be the easiest and shortest Legendary campaign I have ever gone through in a Halo game. Me and my brother got through the whole thing in a little over 7 hours. Not one section gave us a real challenge. Except for the
ship segment INVERT CONTROLS DAMN YOU!

Again though I think this is a great new story and I am excited where its going to take us. I just hope 343 has the chops to reach the same heights the series is known for.

Christ, this game needs an update. Lost all my armor presets two times so far and today my loadouts got wiped twice upon booting the game and having a jump in progress map. Really annoying.

Well... I'd prefer regular FFA over Regicide. I've won both of my Regicide matches, but it's just too much, man. I can't take that kind of pressure, I'm getting old. :(
