Went to Gamestop @ 11am and got my WiiU Deluxe, along with NSMBU, ZombiU and a Pro Controller. I also asked for Darksiders II, but they told me they only had NSMBU and ZombiU, and no other titles came out for the system...uh, wrong. Oh well, had a Target Gift card, figured I'd go there and get Darksiders II. Went into Target, the lady working in electronics profiled me apparently, and before I could say anything, she said "No, we don't have any WiiUs." Ok, lady, I just need to see which games you have. They have them all behind the counter, which was odd, but ok. Picked up Darksiders II.

Got home, couldn't connect to WiFi. Got pissed, came to Gaf, found the tip to manually input all settings, did that, and voila, it's updating.

Fast forward 45 minutes, it's 75% done and Football games start in 5 mins. Grrr. I have to drive to Savannah from Orlando tonight, so I likely won't be playing it much today. Oh well, plenty of time ahead. I am taking it with me on my trip, because I'll be gone for a week.

Congrats to all other gaffers who got theirs today!

I have about half the excitement for the Wii U than I did for the Wii, and I think a lot of it had to do with how ridiculously excited I was for Twilight Princess.

Good call, seems like a ton of people are just walking into stores and picking up consoles. My friend and I waiting for 4 hours in 30 degree weather for a Wii and Zelda at launch.

My WiiU and NSMBU is literally sitting on a table unopened.

Where are these tips? Just wanna know ahead of time.

Wow. When I left my place to go pickup a copy of Tekken the update timed out. Luckily the Wii U saves its place when restarting. That's something. Still, I have a long time to wait before I can play any games. Half way there.

I live in Japan and the Wii U is not out until next month and I'm a bit confused as to which one I should get.

Can I get the 8GB model and then use an SDcard to expand the storage? Will it work and can it be used exactly like the internal storage? Are there any gotchas if I go with removable storage?

I wont be buying more than 5 games -very few games appeal to me- over its lifespan and I wont be buying much downloadable games other than Virtual Console classics.

Thanks :)

I'm still curious if the OS lag is attributable to the present Nintendo network lag. This system is so interconnected now, it wouldn't surprise me. Either that, or expect another GB patch in a week lol.

Is anybody else having an issue where the image on the screen is too wide? I've checked all the aspect ratios for my TV and receiver and they are all set to "Normal". But, the left and right sides of the screen seem a bit cut off.

Nintendo World Store was pretty fun. Well, as fun as standing in a line for 6 hours can be.

Some highlights for anyone interested:

- Got there at 9pm and line was wrapped around the block, no problem getting wristbands for Deluxe systems. Guessing between 1k-1.5k people?
- Free Grilled Cheeses being handed out (twice).
- A bag of shwag including a WiiU light stick (kinda cool), a Mii face cutout, oswald ears, inflatable Tekken ball, and a few other things.
- Free Hot Apple Cider being handed out.
- Once midnight hit, it took 3 1/2 hours to get to get rung up in store because they had 6 registers for must've been 1000 people...unbelievably dumb.
- Was on the corner as a black Escalade pulled up, 10 minutes later Reggie waves to the line, hops in and peels out (didn't really peel out).
- Mario & Luigi toured the line, also random Mii's walking by doing dumb shit (but funny).
- Someones friend further down the line cut in around 12:30, waited 3 hours to get to the register and get denied because he didn't have a wristband. Priceless reaction.
- They forgot to put Ben10 and NBA 2k on the "Wish List" but I don't think a single person cared.
- Seemed like they had wayyyy more systems than people, I'm guessing it would easy to get one there today sans the crowd.

Start time 9pm, made it home around 4:30am. Really wasn't that bad except for the register debacle. Hearing that TRU online orders are getting cancelled really sucks. I have one preordered there but don't trust em, such a shitty thing to do after sending out confirmations.

This update sucks. It's been downloading for 2 hours as of this minute (maybe 90% done).
I have 35 mbps cable internet (just had to verify).

Not sure why the Wii U is having so much trouble.

Fuuuuu

Gamepad screen resolution really impressed me during setup. Looked super clear.

Updating now. See you guys in a few months.

What experience with screens/tablets/phones do you have? Because my first impression of the gamepad screen is that its just a bigger 3DS bottom screen. Very low PPI, very poor contrast.

Envious of all you lucky day 1 folks. I didn't act fast enough to get an in-store pre-order in my area, so I had to go online.

waiting on NSMBU and ZombiU from newegg ($12 off code for each) and my deluxe wii-u from toys r us (I'm apparently one of the lucky ones whose online order wasn't cancelled)

So how do i get to the main screen that has all the game icons with all the mii's gathering around the games they are playing?

Also on the main menu pop up bubbles keep telling me to connect to the internet to use all the features, but I am connected to the internet and can use miiverse and friend list. But I cant do anything with the Nintendo Network Icon. Im kinda confused.

Finishing up the system transfer (it's making its way onto my WiiU now).

I'm not fully watching the actual video that goes along with it, since I'm doing other stuff as well, but, I hope someone (and I'm sure someone will) will post a recording of it at some point to watch at a later time, because it looks cute.

But then, Pikmin are just awesome in general.

Yes!
That'll be $0.50 please :p

Can't get the console to connect to my wi-fi :(

I have to go to work in 3 and a half hours, would be nice to get through the update and get my VC games transferred by then. Looking unlikely.

Had everything preordered, but my brother got pretty lucky. He walked into a Best Buy this morning and got one.

Just had a fun time with Nintendo Land.

I'm having a blast with this thing so far. Metroid Blast, Mario Chase, and the others are all insanely fun games.

I don't know about you, but Nintendo succeeded again in my opinion!

What are these Wi-Fi issues you guys are experiencing? And some else mentioned manually connecting to their network to resolve the issue?

What's going on? I pick my Deluxe in 49 minutes...

heh, yeah :(

The wifi connection shows up on the list, it's WPA2, AES, password is right... it just won't connect. So I don't think the console is having trouble recognizing the connection, it just won't connect.

whats the name of the connection? any special characters?

To be more precise, how do I get to the WaraWara Plaza?

Sounds like the Wii U isn't connecting to people's DHCP setup correctly. That or it could be a 2.4GHz vs 5GHz issue. It worked fine for me though.

Lol what the hell is wrong with me? I got this cool new system with all kinds of stuff, but here I am playing super metroid again on the wii side. And I also just got last blade 2. Didn't know that ever made it to the wii shop.

Anyway I am really digging the ui so fat. Also my downloads on the wii shop are blazingly fast compared to normal wii.

I have no intention of using Wii Remotes any time soon, do I still need to have the stupid sensor bar?

I have a wireless one that I will put in my entertainment center (Wii U is at the back fo the room with projector).

I didn't plug in the Wii U one.
