Metro Last Light dev: 'Wii U has horrible, slow CPU' [Up: DICE dev comments]

As we all predicted, Nintendo will not have 3rd party support because underpowered. We all saw it coming miles away.

Wii still made more money, in less time, with no losses. In comparison, PS3 just recently-ish started making money and will most likely never pass Wii's numbers. No company would like a PS3 repeat over a Wii repeat.

Everyone and their grandmas knows that Nintendo made a lot of money with the Wii.

The Wii was marketed well and there was a lot of hype surrounding it. It was crazy. But the hype died off pretty quicky.

Weird comparison alert: Guitar Hero. Hugely popular at one time. Generated a lot of money. But no one cares about that brand anymore. And no one will ever will, probably.

Why? Because it wasn't handled well. Bad business decisions again.

where do you think console gaming is going after this gen.
Some sort of streaming tech built in TVs, standard. Who knows

I can think of no bigger whimper than an apocalypse fueled by games that are pretty rather than substantive, but that's just me.
You can have both. I don't know why Nintendo fans constantly make it seem like you have to choose one or the other. There will be plenty of games with incredible visuals and incredibly deep and immersive gameplay.

This is how I feel. I know I'm going to get unique games on the Wii U, which is why I'm keeping it. Devs will start to figure it out (although, Nintendo blew it in some ways).

If by "unique" you mean Mario, Zelda and Metroid.

If Nintendo wasn't so artistically bankrupt I'd feel compelled to pick up a WiiU.

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
By the way, what is the source of this interview? The article doesn't say.

I'm not surprised. Wii U's CPU seems to have no vector units whatsoever and a FPU using paired singles, a completely alien concept to PC or PS360 developers.

Bah...the beginning of this thread was fun, now everyone is just being mean to each other.

Bah

I just try to think happy thoughts, like getting a Wii U once we have a new 3D Mario, a new Zelda, and Super Smash Bros. Kerfuffle, and knowing that there are people on GAF who care about me buying a BAD SYSTEM and supporting a BAD COMPANY. It warms the cockles of my heart.

This is also interesting because Sony and Microsoft now have an incentive to kill PS3 and 360 much sooner than they might have wanted to. If they successfully migrate enough users to next gen and are able to kill off last gen development (except possibly the biggest sports games) they will kill third party Wii U development as well.

Your reply pretty much confirms you are the GAF crowd. Nitpicky about graphics and details, slightly bitter. You should look in the Wii U impressions of friends and family, it's a whole other world.

and your reply pretty much confirms that you really like wearing those nintendo glasses all the time.

Monolith Soft is actually Nintendo owned, Mistwalker was Last Story.

And Wonderful 101 IP right probably belong to Nintendo, so we can say is a Nintendo IP.

My bad, I confused the two. Wonderful 101 is stretching it quite a bit. I think Monolith is stretching it as well since Nintento kind of just bought the studio. The point of the original post was actual Nintendo developers creating new IP's, not Nintendo publishing other developers titles.

So now that the console is out the "embargo", whether self initiated or requested by Nintendo, from developers seems to be up.

I expect more and more to speak out on the hardware itself now. This next couple months will be interesting to see what developers and publishers say and do, with sales figures closely watched I'm sure.

I don't understand why they just don't dedicate some resources to mastering the setup. It's Nintendo, it's not like the install base won't be there. Maybe I'm missing something but I still feel like some of these folks could have made a lot of money on Wii...

Also don't understand why people want all the hardware to be so similar. Seems pointless...

not even 360 levels of power? ouch

This is what I see, the Wii U has a more powerful GPU with 4x ram (counting the OS ram) of the 360 but slower but has the architecture to help the ram, the CPU is confusing but has help of the GPGPU and more modern architecture.

That's what I see.

I really, really wanted to do only one console this go 'round...I was hoping that could've been the WiiU. Now it looks alike when the PS4/720 get released, WiiU is going to be even worse off compared to the competition than Wii was comparatively. Damn it Nintendo, why do I keep givinmg you money?!

Yea i was thinking it would go down the road eventually too,and with how fast mobile tech is advancing i can see happening that fast. But this isn't the thread for that topic, maybe someone can start a thread and we can talk about it some more.

I'm bored of developers talking about the Wii U's power based on how well their ports run. This is why I don't buy 3rd party games on Nintendo systems, they are the laziest most uncreative people on the planet the second you ask them to develop for a Nintendo platform. Seriously were Factor 5 the only ones who actually gave a shit?

Pffffffffft

You pretty much can - if you have a decent PC as well.

So Wii was very successful, had a pretty nice attach rate and was popular for at least 4 years. It also was profitable from day one. Was GBA a bad business decision too?

Isn't that largely what the other two do as well?

If they successfully migrate enough users to next gen and are able to kill off last gen development (except possibly the biggest sports games) they will kill third party Wii U development as well.

When rumors starting showing up about the nearly identical nature of ps4 and 720, it became obvious there is some implicit agreement between them to box out nintendo.

I still don't understand what the point of the Wii U existing. With the Wii I understood it that they put motion controls in the forefront. But with the Wii U it's like releasing a 360 in 2012, the gamepad barely is a gamechanger, in fact it is more of a hassle as it makes things more expensive and battery doesn't last as long.

So this is basically what the Wii U is
- worse online than PSN and XBL
- worse multiplatform ports than PS3/360, hell many big multiplats are still notcoming GTA5, Bioshock, Tomb Raider, MGS and etc
- added Gamepad which ain't really a gamechanger, mainly used for maps texting and etc, I'd rather do that on the TV than waste battery life of the controller for an extra screen

So what is the point of Wii U, oh right HD Nintendo games, but we really should have gotten that last gen. I really think the Wii U will stumble, it will probably do slightly worse than GameCube. Of course Nintendo fans will buy it. Majority of gamers will stick with PS3/360 and move to their successors. And I doubt Wii U can be saved by the casuals like the Wii did, motion gaming appeal was far to much of a huge i hit with Wii and I don't think whis Wii U pad will come anywhere near that.

i still don't understand why anyone cares? we pretty much all have a 360 and PS3. i personally dont need a third system doing the same crap. the only people who should be thinking about this kinda stuff are exclusive nintendo owners. theyre the only ones that need to be mad about any of this negative news.

What if you like Nintendo and Sony 1st party games and also want great PC versions?

Funny because they have more to lose with Nintendo out of the picture.

Wasn't third party support one of Nintendos main points during the announcement at e3? I get that they'll still have their first party lineup, but they deserve shit for not developing a console that can handle third party games since they're the ones who pushed that as a focus with the U.

Unless you are a really big Nintendo fan, I would never recommend having a Nintendo console and nothing more.

And after all GC library was bounds better than Wii.

And I'm not asking a top tech console, something in the middle ground that could easily get next gen ports...

I got you man but listen, Nintendos philosophy is to appeal to everyone. This was their middle ground and all they could come up with.
