Holiday BOMBA: Playstation AllStars Charts 38th Week 1 UK

Yup. The fan service thing is something people have been saying for a while.
I've always found it to be that odd 'Sony loves us all' mentality you see at E3 every year.

Sony wanted this to be a commercial success.
If they didn't they wouldn't be releasing it this time of year first of all; and they wouldn't be making at all.
Their a business.

I mean I don't think Sony fully understand their audience, who they are or have the ability to cut between 'FANS'/'fans' and 'customers'; so maybe it was 'fan service' but it is designed to be profitable 'fan service'.

Of course Sony wants the game, every game, to be a commercial success. The fan service commentary it's my own, it does not represent Sony expectations to this game, I think. I think this game has little appeal to anyone outside the Sony most knowledgable fandom, and Sony misjudged its appeal if it trusted on a new IP in a very difficult genre, and unproven to Sony, to support PS3 sales in this holiday season.

I remember reading through Sony All Star threads and for some reason I have no clue whose actually in the game anymore. I know Radec and Raiden are in it, and the purple stalagmite. But I keep thinking Resistance characters or Nathan Drake are in it but they aren't.

Sweet-tooth is another one I remember. Sly Cooper?
What?

I think that existed.
But what didn't exist? 'And I want Radec, Sweet Tooth, Fat Princess, Not Dante, Raiden, that kid from Ape Escape' etc in it. And to be fair, I like some of those characters, and I think the gameplay's pretty fun, but holy shit did they blow it on the getting big characters to pad out the smaller ones in this.

Honestly, the game's roster feels like free advertising for the publishers(Capcom, Konami) rather than celebrating Sony's mascots and third party franchises. I'm surprised when I finish a match as Raiden or Dante it doesn't say 'DMC/MGR in stores <insert date here>'

Those people who want this kind of game are certainly out there, I'm just a little shocked that Sony seemed to think it was a significant enough portion to not only make a game for, but to hedge a lot of holiday bets on.

Do you guys want to know what was 39? Gran Turismo 5, a two year old game.

Gran Turismo was not represented in PlayStation All-Stars, and that's SCE's largest IP. If SEGA could make a fighting car, so can Superbot!

UK -> world!
This is an important fact. Along with a reaction of feigned supervise, honestly what was Sony seriously expecting. Which probably means it'll be a sweet ps+ freebie in few months. The platform convergence parity is excellent though, and could be seriously great when the The PS4 hits, which is when the Vita refresh happens too. Those sweet refreshingly!

I just can't believe the Family Guy game beat it.

Actually (as I've already said), I would wait until 2012 ends.
Then, I would look at the ww numbers.
So yes, I actually believe the sales numbers will be alright (but nothing special).

A Sony All-Stars game without Cloud Strife, Crash Bandicoot, and Solid Snake?
Really?
These are Sony owned characters now?
Cool!

Twisted Metal GT
Could just make another GT game

Seriously though; it wouldn't impact sales - but theres not even a GT stage?

To everyone blaming lack of marketing, what exactly have you seen? I've seen an advert for this, Halo 4 and World of Tanks in the last couple of weeks. How are the other 37 titles in the chart selling?

I feel damn sorry for sony, they must put more money into first party titles than any other yet alot of them dont sell very well even when they are good games, this had little hope its a niche market. Such a shame.

I can understand the licensing for GT being a royal pain, but there's not even a WipEout or MotorStorm stage. : /

I didn't know whether or not Sony put Nathan Drake in the game because there's been very little press or marketing for it. I knew the character count wasn't that high, but I thought Sony would put in Jak or Daxter or whomever else over Nathan Drake.

They're there too

I have no idea why anyone would speculate how profitable this game would be without any knowledge of the size of the budget or how much sales they need in return for their investment while basing it on 1 week sales in a pretty bad market.

Your getting a tad ahead of yourself.

That damn world of tanks advert is all over the place, ive seen it more than huge titles like halo and ass creed 3.

I have to begin to question the choice of developer.
I can understand the licensing issues of third party content; but seriously this should have been a Japan job.

Wipeout just needs the F Zero stage copied and pasted.

Are you sure you're not getting confused with Nathan Hale from Resistance instead of Nathan Drake from Uncharted? Because Drake makes a lot of sense compared to Hale

And Jak and Daxter are in the game

Yeah I think he is confusing them.

I was actually suggesting that when the game first got announced, but a Twisted Metal stage. Instead we got the stupid robot from the new Twisted Metal that didn't even sell.

Cool!

Dante, Big Daddy... Raiden.

3 characters with little if anything to do with PlayStation and its branding compared to three that actually helped put that shit on the map.

Come on man, defend the game all you want but ignoring three of the biggest names on the PlayStation map, Sony owned or otherwise, is completely silly and their exclusion utterly baffling.

Well there's a lot of things they didn't get right in my opinion. Ignoring characters, they could have at least done stages.

My main gripe though is the single player. Sure the game might play all right, but the single player is completely half baked and pointless. They may as well not even bothered. It's just a bog standard Arcade mode.

I really would have liked something like Subspace Emissary. In an ideal world I would have gotten something like Edge Master Mode. Single player is severely lacking

um, I don't even follow the game and I know who's in the game. Nathan Drake is from a pretty premiere franchise on ps3. so yeah

Seriously.

Nope. I originally thought that Nathan Drake would be a tad too realistic or unfitting for a Smash type of game. Looking at the full character roster, it seems like there's a lot of clashing styles that seem weird to be together. Just my opinion though.

Those characters are pretty clearly in there as advertisements. Dante for DmC, Big Daddy for Bioshock Infinite (yes, I know he isn't in that game), and Raiden for Metal Gear Rising. Outside of Konami and MGS none of those other companies have characters that really defined PlayStation.

I don’t on a PS3 but when speaking to a friend who is PS3 gamer if he was interested in the game he really didn’t give a damn. His response was ‘who is in this game’. The dude hasn’t played Smash Bros since N64 days but could name a bunch of characters from smash bros but with this one or he could think of was a few and I think that’s the problem. Sony doesn’t have the recognisable characters or icons to have a game like this.

Obviously (and already this dilutes any messaging they were attempting with the roster).

"HEY KIDS REMEMBER DANTE?"

"Yeah!"

"HERE HE IS!"

"...wait, what?"

If "random 3rd Party Company" says "no", you won't get shit.
It's simply as that!

I know that, and so does Sony. Maybe they should've done the paperwork before putting this game into production.
Paperwork for what? They have enough other characters as you can see.
The game is good enough.

I was interested at first but lost all interest during their marketing period. I’m probably in the minority here so I’m not saying they should have done anything different, but it feels like Sony doesn’t know how to market games (to me).

For my taste, Sony spammed their own blog way too much with marketing for their game. It felt like they don’t have any real means to market this games. :( I personally want to be surprised by games and not know everything beforehand. Again: Not saying they should have done everything differently, just that the way they did it turned me off.
