Nintendo sells 1.2 million hardware units (400K Wii U, 300K Wii, 275K DS, 250K 3DS)

Nintendo sold more than 1 million hardware units over the last week, the company has confirmed to CNET.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told CNET in a phone interview today that during the last week, its internal data has shown total U.S. hardware sales have reached more than 1.2 million units. That figure includes the Wii U, Wii, 3DS, and DS.

According to Fils-Aime, Nintendo sold over 700,000 consoles during the last week. The Wii U topped the Wii with 400,000 units sold. The Wii, which Nintendo launched all the way back in 2006, was able to muster 300,000 Wii sales during the last week.

"Wii U is essentially sold out of retail and we are doing our best to continually replenish stock," Fils-Aime said. "Retailers are also doing their best to get the product to store shelves. But as soon as product hits retail, they're selling out immediately.

On the portable side, Nintendo sold more than 500,000 hardware units, including 250,000 3DS and 275,000 DS devices. Fils-Aime explained to CNET that the DS outsold the 3DS because of the "significant" deals retailers were offering on Black Friday.

Mod Edit:

For comparison:

I have no idea how supply compares.

at last, for christ's sake
the hardest part begins now

while WiiU's a success, I'm really curious to see how those 800k are distributed. Hopefully the 3DS got a boost

pretty much in line with expectations given current economic climate and the minor steps taken by Nintendo to keep the Wii semi-attractive for another holiday

300,000 Wii's.

I do wonder if it wasnt possible to avoid all confusion with wii u and wii and turn many of those 300,000 wii buys into wii u purchases?

I guess they shipped a ton more consoles than they did Wii at launch. Honestly, I think these numbers are irrelevant to how the console is going to do. It's the first half of 2013 that's going to show what we can expect from sales.

EDIT: Misread OP

It's never sold out, I've been able to see them in target and Walmart consistently for sale since launch. Even on Thanksgiving evening during fire sales.

Funny, although obviously we can't expect him to say anything different. Similar to Tretton when PS3 launched.

Why anyone would by a Wii right now is beyond me, let alone 300,000 people. Those are 300,000 people who aren't buying a Wii U anytime soon

I love seeing a console do so well in the market. It's always a wonderful thing to hear, regardless of which company it is.

3DS is down almost 50% compared to last year. Total hardware sales are down as well (1.5 million in 2011)

It's pretty crazy when you compare how much the Wii sold in the states compared to how it sells in Japan right now. It's really really dead in Japan but in the states it still manages to sell 300.000 units. And then the 3DS situation is the complete opposite. Well the 3DS is not completely dead in the west but you get my point.

I wonder if many people bought a Wii thinking it was a Wii U.

Wow. I wasn't expecting such a high number, considering the lack of marketing and the "it's just a controller" confusion.

I'll still buy mine on mid-2013.
