I don't know why on earth I would need this but it's that awesome red color and I want it.

Be really cool if they changed in GPU and built in the big 4 video services with exclusive 720p suppport and HDMI out. Then it could be the box for other rooms in the house.

Don't expect that though.

I doubt they'd drop that if they left it in the Wii U.

They didn't. That's actually a great way to save some money on license fees. Make it stereo only like Wii U BC, late-late adopters aren't going to care.

I'll buy one at $49 and not a cent more. At this point $99 is too close to $299. That sounds crazy, but that's how my brain is wired.

I don't like color mixes but the base design doesn't look bad. Seems to be matte too looking at the lighting.

Why would you bring this out a couple of weeks after the WiiU?

"I want the new Wii for Christmas"

....?

I see your point, although there are still a lot of people looking to buy the original system.

Last week I had someone at work asking me about the new system, but when he heard the price, he said he'd rather buy a regular Wii for his daughter even though I explained that there were very few games being released for the system anymore, let alone good ones.
Seems like the large back catalogue is more than enough for a lot of price conscious parents.

I can also understand why Nintendo would want to differentiate the look of the Wii and Wii U, although why they didn't go with this kinda design for the Wii U and kept the old one for the Wii is a bit of a mystery to me.

Really liking the design though and I'm even a little tempted to pick one of these up at one point. Too bad I already bought a spare black Wii a couple of months ago to make sure I have GameCube compatibility as well as modded, import friendly system if my launch one should die.
Then again, for €100 I'd probably pick one up to play with in the bedroom.

The Nintendo Wii is one of the most influential and best-selling gaming consoles of all time. Featuring one of the largest gaming libraries, the Wii was the first system to bring home affordable motion sensor gaming, and set a standard for gaming consoles and peripherals going forward. On December 7th, Nintendo is ready to re-introduce the Wii, with a twist.

Touted as “Big Fun, for a Mini Price,” The Nintendo Wii Mini brings home all the excitement and motion gaming of the original, at a fraction of the size, and price tag. The Wii Mini has been completely re-designed from the base-up, resulting in a smaller console. The flat resting system features a manual release top-loading system, which will look to provide owners with a longer lifespan, since it relies on less electronics to power the loading and ejecting of discs. Similar problems led Panasonic and Sega to have to redesign some of their early systems. While Nintendo has never had similar problems with the Wii’s original disc drive, this is a good safety measure in place to ensure you’ll never have to experience that issue. At an introductory price of $99.99, the red and black Wii Mini system comes with the console, sensor bar and a Red MotionPlus controller with Nunchuk.

The Wii Mini aims to introduce (or reintroduce) a new generation to its original gaming options. For the last six years, the Wii has pushed the limits of what we had originally thought were possible to get out of our console games, and spawned a new generation of interactive gaming in general. From the first time a Wiimote was waved as a magic wand in the Harry Potter games, used as an eraser in Warioware, or the Wiimote and Nunchuk had to act the part of a runner’s legs in Madden Football, the Wii has been everything from a good system for party games, to a good source of exercise. Now, with this miniature version of the Wii, more gamers than ever can share in everything it has to offer.

While the system has no Internet connectivity options or Gamecube support, it features full functionality and compatibility with the Wii’s expansive library of over 1,300 games and its associated peripherals, totaling nearly 1 billion games sold. From the massively popular Mario Kart Wii, to the Legend of Zelda series, the simplified nature of the Wii Mini allows for an easier out-of-the-box gaming experience, and is perfect for those who want to check out the Wii and could not pick up the console before, or a quick addition to a rec or gaming room. If you have a Wii already, a Mini would make a great backup, or travel size companion.

You can also register your Wii Mini with Club Nintendo (club.nintendo.com) and get 100 coins, which are redeemable for everything from exclusive posters and notebooks to games.

Best Buy will be carrying the Nintendo Wii Mini starting on December 7th and will be taking pre-orders later today (November 27th.) Check back soon, and get ready to bring home the Nintendo Wii Mini at its introductory price of $99.99!

what the fuck is wrong with Nintendo?!

Wii U looks dull and boring with rounded lines, Wii Mini looks amazing with clean lines. Should have put their best designer on their big launch.

They should have done this last Xmas.
Bundle it with Xenoblade, Last Story or whatever game.
Would have probably gave the Wii a nice boost in sales.

Then this Xmas there wouldn't be any confusion between the
Wii and WiiU. I guess they had their hands full.

edit to add: They are really taking a page from Apple.

WiiMini, Classic Wii, WiiU

Remember the Wii U is built around its internals.
Wii Mini's will have been reduced to fit a design.

Anyway - the price difference is enough; there not really targeting the same people.

small

Apparently it's going to be $99.99.

Is that a flip cover for the disc? Very small
(also not as nice looking as at first lol - but still nice)

Wonder if apple is getting their lawyers ready for the mini name though

Edit; just saw new pics of it laying flat, looks like something from the 90s, and that's not a good thing

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Does this come with a game or not?

You can currently get the current must lay flat design with Wii Sports + Wii Sports Resort for $129.99 MSRP right now.

Still $99 for the hardcore gamer who skipped out isn't a bad deal. If you haven't played the Wii's slate of core titles the redesign wouldn't be a bad deal. I'm sure you can get some of the older titles you missed for cheap.

That being said the $130 flat design is the better deal as you'd get both Wii Sports titles + Internet Connectivity.

Hmm, seeing it from that angle is not very flattering compared to how it's shown on the box.
Bit of a weird design choice. Looks indeed very cheap.
ON the other hand it gives of a bit of a Famicom Disc System vibe. Well somewhat.

An blind dancing ho

It actually look like a gaming system from the good old days (NES,SNES,N64,Megadrive,Saturn,Dreamcast..ect) neat.

Good Art™
I like it personally but i'm surprised it kinda makes me think about old consoles, almost nes vibe. That's cool and all but isn't that the contrary of what the Wii was meant to be in people's living room ? (Aka NOT a videogame ?)

Dear lord that is atrocious design. It looks like a carrying case for a cordless drill, not a video game console. Nothing about the aesthetics of that conjure up fun or play. I can only assume this is to cast an incredibly distinct dividing line between the Wii U design and the Wii design.

Sort of a nice 90s charm to it, but a little too cheap and toyish for me. Should be a hot item for little kids, though. The color scheme and look patterns well with the red/black 3ds xl too.
