Nintendo’s high-end Premium Wii U SKU was by far the most attractive to UK buyers over the console’s launch weekend.

That’s according to data from GfK Chart-Track, which says that the £300 bundle won around a 60 per cent share of the console’s launch weekend sales.

The ZombiU bundle accounted for 30 per cent, leaving Nintendo’s entry-level 8GB Basic pack grabbing just 10 per cent.

The highest Wii U entry in the software charts was bundled game Nintendo Land, although it failed to break into the Top Ten, debuting at No.11. Fellow first party release New Super Mario Bros U entered the listings in 13th with Ubisoft claiming the highest charting third party title – ZombiU in 17th.

The splits are what I guessed really.

I've been so tempted with a basic bundle over the last few days. SO TEMPTED.

Reggie - We sold 60% of Premium. The Zombi U bundle sold 30%. The Basic bundle sold 10%. This means 100% of units were sold. Better on Wii U.

That split is interesting - casuals would be buying lot more white bundles imho so that's probably mostly core Nintendo fans going to shops at the launch.

seems really like nintendo should kill the basic bundle... no one seems to want it anywhere across the world.

I suspect the Basic has no future beyond bundles. Maybe positioned as a Wii Upgrade Pack or something. I can see them repackaging it with Wii Fit U when that releases. As a stand alone system people would clearly rather just pay more for the better value Premium.

i'll pick one up when rayman and pikmin are out. i don't need the extra space, plastic, or frisbee.

i do understand it might have more appeal for some people, but if things won't change nintendo will really have to slow down the basic production... seems like that's the niche model, while the premium is the mainstream model

Is that why NoA suck now? I mean since they don't have the head guy anyone?

That's expected, the basic pack is of no interest I'd gather and stocks limit the ZombiU bundle anyway

I bought a basic pack. I did not want Nintendoland and have a HDD lying around. I really did not have a reason to pay the extra 50€.

I don't think Nintendo ever really expected it to sell that well, I guess the main reason to have it is so they can say 'from £250!' in their advertising.

How many days was it eligible for the chart?

I still don't get how they could miss the opportunity to include NintendoLand preinstalled on every console and add related mini games everytime a first party game comes out.

Basic Wii U is stupid.

White may look slightly better, yeah. And I hate how well fingerprints show on the black surface. But my Wii was white, so I wanted an another colour for a bit of variety...

Yeah each to their own - I'm glad Nintendo gave us the choice.

How many of you have been buying digitally?

I thought I was going to be put off digital purchases by the NNID linked to system & mii thing, but I've basically bought everything on the eShop (except for Nintendoland, which came as part of the system).... NSMBU, Puddle, Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing on day 1. I intend to buy ZombiU and Black Ops digitally this month too.

what made you change your mind exactly?

Nintendoland sold 26k first week, does this imply total console sales in the region of 37k if it was packed in every premium?

Where are you getting this number? And if its true it means at most the system did 37k because that assumes no one bought it outside of the bundle.

That's the max number, any individual NL copies sold would reduce the Wii U number sold.

before making a fuss about this, are we sure that that number (wherever is coming from) is not just about single copies sold by retailers and not the bundled copies with the system?

If we assume NL did 26k without individual sales and that represents 60% of consoles, the Wii U did 43.3k.

60%=26k
100%=43.3K

At all events this sounds to me like an overwhelmingly good result for ZombiU; I think at Ubisoft they weren't expecting it to sell this good - I gather it's selling good if nothing else based on bundle's sales.

I always wonder about this with Vita games. It's going to be tricky keeping track of numbers going forward.

I'm looking at the GFK data. I'd always been lead to believe it included bundle copies as well as individual units and seeing as its the best selling Wii U game its a reasonable assumption.

EDIT: Yes my maths sucks

You made a random guess at indvidual units?

Am I reading that correctly?

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!

26k seems like it would be about right.

We know AC3 did 53k total.
9 ASSASSIN'S CREED III XB360 UBISOFT UBISOFT
11 NINTENDO LAND WII U NINTENDO NINTENDO
13 ASSASSIN'S CREED III PS3 UBISOFT UBISOFT

Also if it were just the non bundled copies, that would be mean the rest of WiiU software really tanked.

Nah I get what he did, thats the highest possible scenario. AC3 did 53,923. That was across Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U.

Nintendoland did less than the Xbox360 and more than the PS3 version, so 27k is its maximum. Probably a modest amount less.

Nintendoland was attached to at least 60% of Wii Us, so it did no more than 45k. Again, probably a modest amount less.

Worst launch in the UK for a long time.

Makes sense, but damn never in a million years did I expect less than Vita in the holiday season.

If these numbers are accurate the the blame should fall on Nintendo and its marketing team. Barring a few tv ads i saw nomarketing for it.
