Half the multiplayer and the entire Forge mode was created by Certain Affinity and 343 still has trouble getting baseline features into the game. I don't get it. What were those 300 people doing during those 3 to 4 years?

Wasn't there some guy from Bungie who joined 343 that left in 2010 I think who said a lot of the dev team left? I sort of remember something like that was posted on HBO and people were kind of freaking out at the time. I also think it says something that the creative director and the sandbox lead left before it released.

Gears is still very much Gears IMO. What killed the online was sawed-off, that alone ruined the game for tons of my friends who loved Gears 1/2. I hope it doesn't return in Judgment.

Halo on the other hand...well it definitely is something else now.

Hardcore Gears fans would disagree. Many want a return to the mechanics of Gears 1 (no stopping power, rifle power reduced, no delay, etc).

You know, I was never really a big Gears MP fan until GoW3. I felt I had much better chance of survival and doing well in that game than any other.

Maybe Gears Appealed to me in the way that Halo 4 is appealing to some people now.

on a side note i'm getting some excitement to jump back into that world with GoW:J

That's because rifles were beefed up heavily. The the gnasher became less dominant, although it is still the tool of choice for those good at the game.

This is what caused a lot of people to dislike the game. The sawed off was one thing, but the power of the rifles really, really slowed the game down.

But your observation is spot on. These things were added in both games to make them both more accessible. The problem is, those things become tools of annoyance/power in the hands of those experienced with the game. Then the "newbies" leave the game anyway and you're left with shit in the toolbox.

I wonder why they left/ how it impacted the game.

I hope 343 gets militant and enforces like fixed term contracts, and starts afresh with its dev team.

I know people are probably getting tired of blackops talk, but shit needs to be discussed that we want in Halo.

In Blackops 2 theater mode has surpassed Halo now. Not only can you select clips from a video and splice them together, but there is now a "auto montage" mode that selects clips instantly from gameplay, rates them and runs you through them were you can do final "editing."

Also, you can view from first person of anyone playing. Also, auto youtube upload in HD for free and all that.

How in the world COD actually surpassed Halo in something that Halo did first is astounding to me.

I actually enjoy the BLOPS talk. While I'm not a huge fan of the gameplay pace, they definitely nailed alot of the MP features that H4 could benefit from.

Not really. Most of the time, I feel like strafing is pretty useless. It's more of a game where the guy who is seen first dies.
That was one of the design points.
One of the designers mentioned it in a Podcast/ViDOC. They wanted it so if you shot at a guy first, you would most likely come out of the fight winning.

Pretty big step backwards if you ask me...

You have a much better chance in this game of fighting back after being shot once compared to Reach, I'd say it's about on par with Halo 3 from what I remember. But whatever, I've avoided this for a reason!

Exact source? Cause, I would remember such a thing.

Specialization code is suppose to unlock just the extra specs correct?

My bro used a code and at level one has Locus, Scanner, Hazop Forest Set armor, Strider and Bullet/Falcon emblem to use unlocked.

Now you don't get all of that do you? I'm asking again cause it wasn't answered on the last page.

lol, damn you guys are relentless with shitting on this game.
It seems like a lot have just stopped posting here... Or are posting less frequently.

I haven't played H4 in a while either so I don't post here near as much. As has been repeated a billion times already; there's a lot in this game that's enjoyable, but a lot that needs some serious work. I could post my lists but it's all been said many times. I still enjoy the community for the most part. Once some more patches are released and issues are fixed, I'll probably jump back in.

To be fair, Gears 3 was just how Gears was supposed to be all along.
The players just found ways to exploit the mechanics in Gears 1 and 2.
It was meant to be a slower, more cover-based experience and not a shotgun rollfest.
Fuck Gears 1/2 MP, Gears 3 all day erryday! Sawed-off is bullshit though.

Noone knows the unlocks exactly. Scholars are still transcribing the hieroglyphics they are written in. Theses have been written.

Pretty obvious this thread is more bitching to playing ratio. I enjoy the game for what it is. *shrug*

I also didn't go in expecting the second coming of CE either though.

If they accidentally made a fun game then I would argue that maybe they should go with whats fun rather than be adamant that they stick with the original vision.

I don't think we'd have to bitch as much if they just took well known smart players advice that we have been giving out for years here. We called out many things ahead of time which in turn turned out shitty. We've been giving solid playlist advice to get fans back in. At a point we are no longer backseat developers we actually know what the game should be, its bold, but I'm pretty sure its true. They are just appeasing casuals who are going to eventually migrate back and forth from Halo anyways in response with DLC and large updates. When things get stale only the true will stay and 343 took a large dump on the true's chesticles.

So what time should the Dlc drop tomorrow morning?

I get that you guys are disappointed, but I liked Gears 3 MP more.
And it makes sense, finally it was more like the SP portion of the game.
Gears 1 SP and MP were like Gran Turismo and Mario Kart, respectively. Plus, there's plenty of ADHS running and gunning games, but only one game with a really, really good cover system. Still, a classic playlist wouldn't have done any harm.

I don't think anyone really did, the game is just broken.

The game has it's problems, obviously, but I just don't see it as the huge steaming pile everyone else on here seems to.

lol.

Applying the same logic to Halo,

There should have never been a dominating precision weapon in the game, the pistol was a mistake.

Well, I think there should never have been a weapon as powerful as the CE pistol.
It was fun, but waaaaay too powerful.
Halo 2/3 BR and the Halo 4 precision weapons pretty much nailed it. Halo 4 DMR might actually be slightly OP again (due to 3x zoom).

Edit: Although I never played much Halo CE MP, I'm talking about the campaign only here. Apart from the limited ammo, there was literally no reason to ever drop the pistol.

I did, didn't even get a call. No experience and all that jazz I guess.

Hopefully someone can get in there and make a grand case and push a lot of shit around over there.

The pistol didn't dominate in Halo: CE as much as the BR or DMR did in the sequels because of how quick the movement speed was in Halo 1. You could get in close with a shotgun, AR, or PP in CE and have a fighting chance against a pistol user.

For us personally, the issues add up. We like to do content on HaloCouncil and we are severely crippled by:
  • Theater being broken (no sounds)
  • Fileshare broken (no gametype sharing, hard for Jazzy to get clips)
  • Broken Forge Options (cant make maps like 3/R)
  • Custom game options severely limited
  • Spartan Ops, well being Spartan Ops.
  • BTB.net and no objective for their playlist

That's just on the website side.

Me personally, one of my favorite past times on HaloGAF is playing Double Team with Risen, he usually got on in the afternoon for his lunch break or w/e and we could play for a few ours during Reach. Now we can't at all.

I really want to like Halo 4, but 343 hasn't really picked up any slack for the community, yay they got rid of 2 glitches and fixed some minor things but THEY HAVEN'T said a peep about much more than a small map is coming. The thing that sucks too is they are really nice folks at the company and I don't like talking down about it, but it's been a month and they are on vacation.

I don't even know if it's 343 or MS but someone is seriously hurting the image of the franchise, losing the customer base, and pissing off the old fan in a perfect trifecta.

Only glimmer of hope is they have Bravo there now and he's taking feedback, even then they may shut him down for being new or "inexperienced".

Fracas, I can't find that chrome extension you put up the other day. It hides the "you have this user blocked" lines; does any of that make sense?

I don't think so, but don't expect your, his or my vision of Halo to take precedence.

Exactly. One person isn't going to come in and change everything. Even if it's for the better. He'll be part of the team and at the end of the day the team will decide what changes and doesn't. That's the one big thing everyone needs to learn. Halo 4 ended up what it was because that's what the team wanted it to be. At the end of the day this is their Halo. So don't expect much to change.

The only real choice we all have is to play it or not sadly.

I really isn't about vision at this point but fixing.
Bravo being so close to production now, would not be suprised that some of the things he throws at them can't be done now (because of budget, engine, time etc.) but could be included into the next game.

You want news on a huge patch, but acknowledge that most of them are probably on vacation still, lol.

And how much of that shit you listed at the top really effects the enjoyment of the actual game for the majority of players?

They've already pushed out more fixes/playlists updates in a month that would have taken Bungie multiple months, the game basically gets a refresh of some sort every week. Bigger patches/fixes will come, shit doesn't happen overnight.
