Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2 stuff

The point I made is not because I don't want surprises, Alucard is all but confirmed, he will be a playable character in MoF, he shows up at the end of the reveal trailer of this game, wanting a little action of him is not wanting to be spoiled IMO.

I need to see this trailer in a proper resolution because what I saw was nothing to write home about, Im saying this as a super LoS fan.

Unless showing more of Alucard would spoil it because of his looks.

Probably my most anticipated game of 2013, that is, aside from whatever we will see from next gen. Absolutely loved the first one. One of the few games I have ever played more than once. Incredible soundtrack, varied and really beautiful locales, good combat system, meaty length....the game got so much right that the few wrongs were very easy for me to overlook. Absolutely lovely game. Can't wait.

Something I noticed was that they don't seem to be differentiating between Dracul and Dracula. I wonder if that was a conscious decision or a mistake on their part. Or they're doing that to establish Alucard as Gabriel's son post-transformation and Dracula.

Edit: or even crazier, Trevor turns into Alucard D:

I've been wondering about this too, but Cox explained it just today:

@KugaAyato - He refers to himself as the Dragon or Dracul. It's only others who will come to call him Dracula later...

Ya, it was full of cheese. I still need to play the first one, is the gameplay solid?

The hitboxes are absolute shit (we're talking HD Remix Akuma levels of garbage), the enemies are damage sponges, the framerate is choppy as fuck, and the pacing is inane. Apart from that, the gameplay's pretty solid -- a hell of a lot better than you'd expect from a European studio, certainly.

And of course the presentation is magnificent. It's a really beautiful game.

You cant connect TV and PC via long hdmi?

Oh no, basically I had saved up some money and was going to get a new TV, but I really actually need a gaming PC because of this, Bioshock, and all the Steam games I've ignorantly purchased during sales even though my current PC can't handle them. :p

I have an alright TV for now, but weighing my options, the gaming PC is sounding a lot better at the moment.

edit: not to mention I just bought one of those really nice Dell IPS monitors. It'd be dumb of me to not get a gaming rig at this point.

Jesus this game plus the original on PC (hopefully) with (hopefully) better technical aspects and smoother framerate will have me drowning in splooge.

What? Why would the studio being European be any indicator whether the game is good or not?

European studios aren't exactly known for character action style games in the vein of Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden. It still didn't come close to either but it could have been much worse.

Has there been any mention of PC a release for the first one? I've been thinking of playing it again, but the choppy framerate has been keeping me away.

Edit: answered right above me.

Watched it a few more times and have warmed up to it. As much as I love the first one, I know I am going to dig the hell out of it. I think I just let the hype get the best of me. I also had a bit too much to drink on Friday night as well, lol.

I think he might specifically mean the combat system. It's pretty good for a first try, but not on-par with the Japanese heavy hitters.

edit: beaten

Trailer looks hot in direct feed quality. The voiceover gives me Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver vibes even if the writing isn't quite as good.

Was "Lords of Shadow" the first one where they stopped using the musical stuff for the titles?

I miss those corny names. Where's my "Minuet of Despair", "Adagio of Agony", "Ode to God Of War, ma non troppo". Nevermind, they actually did do the last one.

This name has to be used at some point.

I totally got confused for a second and thought this was the 3DS games. I was amazed, confused, and eventually disappointed.

Regardless, colour me hyped for both games.

I was going to say I wished this was being released on PC, but it apparently is! Konami really has an untapped market there.

This game looks fucking sublime. Sooner or later I'm going to have to upgrade my PC... :p

That hair... They need some of squeenix's agnis tech, cause, other than that, that model looks fantastic. It only makes the difference that much more noticeable.

Count me in the group that's both surprised and glad to see that we're getting a PC version.

Yep, hair is hideous (In young gabriel, in the old one is spot on)

It was already known that Gabriel/Dracula would be the playable character but I wish they could have snuck in some Alucard. What a twist with the modern setting though.

It seems pretty obvious that Trevor is Alucard, right? I can't be the only person that sees this.

Trevor being the son of Gabriel and the lack of any details about Alucard are strong hints. I also don't think they'd simply kill him off in Mirror of Fate.

Edit: funny thing is, in LoS they dropped a hint that Gabriel was originally a Cronqvist. Fans of the series should be familiar with that name.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP CALLING HIM DRACULA. HE'S NOT DRACULA.

Apparently, he's this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dracul AKA Dracula's father.

I'm not saying this to be a dick and try to correct everyone, just trying to point that the writing is really stupid. It either means that:

- The devs didn't do their research
- or there's some plot development coming where we see meet his son, Dracula. But then who the hell is Alucard? And where did he get his name?

I've been wondering about this too, but Cox explained it just today:

That 'explanation' makes no sense whatsoever. I'm guessing they just had him say "Dracul" at the end of the first game because it sounded cool and they didn't actually know what the fuck it meant, and now they're painted into a corner. Lord knows they were playing pretty loose with everything from European history to Castlevania lore to Christianity when they wrote it, so I wouldn't put it past them.

That's THEIR explanation, it's THEIR world and THEIR story and no matter what you think it's correct, they can do whatever they want.

Especially this CV saga is NOT tied to history in any way, he's not vlad tepes or anything, and for the love of god don't even try to tie him to the old continuity.

So you can call it Dracul if you want, or Dracula if you think he's less badass than Satan.

Yeah, I actually remember that diary entry. A great little detail, looking back on it.

I can imagine the game being set up where Gabriel has to unlock his memories/powers from the past in order to progress in the future. I am definitely interested to see though just how they are going to implement the future setting into things.

Don't forget the CG teaser trailer, which showed Gabriel at the height of his power transforming into a Dragon to destroy a Steam-powered Wood Titan, and of course preparing to duel with Alucard. I'm sure Mirror of Fate will likely tie the stories together from 1 and 2 in that regard as well.
