Cool, I guess you can go second.

Sure, as long as you don't mind paying for a new woodchipper. My dong would break that shit.

In any case, I'd be willing to offer 'burning in chemical fires' as an alternative to the woodchipper option for everybody involved approving the notion that sticky grenades, shotgun-pistols, and promethean vision are balanced starting options.

I mean, the fact that EVERYBODY abuses them couldn't POSSIBLY be a hint that the people involved in balancing this game are lobotomy patients....

I hate it because it's completely random. Descoping wasn't amazing, but it was consistent. This is just an unpredictable mechanic.

another cool thing about it, aside from the fact that it outright removes control from the player, is that it gives a much needed power increase to things such as getting the jump on someone and engaging someone while you outnumber them

Not to mention ensuring that anybody who reaches a certain level and chooses a specific certification is basically granted a hilariously overpowered advantage in every single encounter.

Is there ANY way in which 343i's pathetic penis envy for CoD hasn't hurt the purity of the Halo multiplayer experience?

Funny I choose not to use basically any of those. I only use stickies for vehicles but probably camo and boarding more than them anyhow. As for boltshot or PV I don't use either. To date I've had a total of 3 games where I got frustrated with boltshot or PV. Two games for boltshot, one game for PV. In the PV case the particular player was just on top of me the whole time anyhow, without PV that player would have had my number anyhow. As for boltshot one game was just me rushing the guy from being frustrated instead of play smart from a ranged approach and the other I felt was due to connection issue moreover than game mechanics. The second boltshot was a custom game and my bolt shot just was not damaging anything and the "frenemy" boltshot was pure instant death.

I do agree PV could use a longer cool down time and boltshot could use a range nerf as well as reload glitch fixed.

Hmm, wishing death, injury, or harm to those who made decisions in Halo 4 is not fucking cool, whether you are joking or not.

Well, I admire your decision to handicap yourself. My K/D started skyrocketing once I started lurking around corners with the starting shotgun pistol, using PV to line up the shot in the seconds before the came around into kill range.

As for stickies, every short-range weapon and melee attempt (successful or not) becomes an instant kill. Even if you die, they die too with a simple pull of the left trigger.

And the 'beauty' of it? You don't even have to earn the right to use this shit by fighting for it on the map! Every respawn, you're right back to being an overpowered hilarity.

With your mentality it would never matter about the game mechanics, players who stat pad or adjust their play based on "cheapness" will always exploit minor or major mechanics/glitches for their own gain. No design or developer insight is going to iron that mentality out.

I've never played a video game or adjusted my play style just for my K/D. You may choose to play your game around one or two aspects but I prefer to enjoy my game, irrespective of what camping + PV + boltshot would do for my e-peen.

I've never experienced the sticky frustration you complain about. I guess I don't attack from the front all that much or go for melees very often. I prefer long range or stealth flanking. More often I die in place of team mate as I rush in to help them out too much. I don't blame game mechanics on my play style for this.

Further my K/D has always been the same since Halo 2, 3, Reach & 4. My style of play has rarely changed and I never spawn killed, almost never quit and go for the objective every time. I'm proud of my sportsmanship, I'd dare say players with a certain mentality could not say the same.

That thread seems to be full of sickening, SLRPing stuff such as

So one thread out of a forum full of whiners has a string of players who enjoy the game and you still shit on it? Fuck me GAF are some harsh posters alright.

Glad to know you aren't like 99% of the Halo population. I'm sure you'd fit right in at 343.

I've noticed some people saying they're having a hard time finding information on our website. I've altered the traditional Bulletin heads-up from a sentence fragment to an outline of the discussed topics. I have also included a link to all Bulletins at the bottom of the post. Please let me know if this format is beneficial, and also if there's anything else I can do to get you the information you're looking for. Thanks!

Baby step.

Likewise, my K/D was the same through Halo 2, 3, and Reach (1.7ish).

Halo 4 however, I cratered early. That was until I realized, the key to success in this game is not skill, but rather exploiting the sheer imbalance baked into the design.

Again another snide comment, for what? This Halo OT started shit and is going to shit with little to no actual discussion worthy content. 99% of the population do not stat pad, 99% do not use PV+boltshot+camping something something.

It would be interesting for 343i/bsAngel to post some percentages in the next bulletin about loadouts or primary weapons or AA's as well as some voting trends in the matchmaking hoppers.

It's hard to get an adequate population sample from an online population as small as the current Halo 4 population is.

Perhaps it would be best to canvas the Black Ops 2 population for former Halo 4 players to ask about their former loadouts... you know, before they left the wanna-be please-like-us CoD experience for the genuine article.

Remember when Halo offered a different, pure experience instead of a watered-down pretender version of CoD? Those were the days.

Ah well, hopefully Destiny is good.

That's where I'd say the tweaked competitive playlist is what you need.

Personally I don't see the imbalance that much with the game. Example you note the PV+BS+Camping. Here's 5 counters without even putting any time into it.

1. Simply avoid the encounter using PV to detect then evade.

2. Use a sticky to even the kill spread, just as you say stickies are used this way.

3. Use the specialisation to not be highlighted in that enemy PV.

4. Use team work via the buddy system, that one enemy is going down against two of you.

5. Use hologram to fool the enemy PV+bolt shotter. They miss and you mop up the kill.

Well what do you expect when you specifically call people who criticize the game "complainers?"

1. I criticise the game as well but I'm just happier than most posters here I suppose.

2. I don't call people out very often either perhaps you need to reread my posts.

3. You have to admit that most who criticise here are not doing so in a constructive manner.

Rock, paper, scissors. Shits flawless.

Yeah, I'm really going into a competitive playlist with the shit matchmaking they've got cooking right now. No thanks, I think I'd rather not be the one positive K/D on a team against a party of four rocking headsets.

Speaking of which, how did 343i manage to take pretty damn good matchmaking algorithm and manage to take a proverbial shit all over it?

DMR
Boltshot
Stickies
Promethean Vision
Explosives or Stalker (no flinch)

In my experience, matchmaking is FAR better than any previous games. So much better that it actually tricks me into thinking I'm good at Halo.

You shouldn't be forced to avoid an encounter if you didn't choose the right ability to spawn with.

Avoid all scissors because you chose paper.

Also team downer in this thread really need to stop circle jerking each other. It actually stops other members from even posting their positive thoughts or dare I say criticisms as well.

You literally call out an entire group of people there.

WTF? So a player should never back down? Please.

You make a bad choice or have a disadvantageous position or get caught without team backup then you back down, evade, regroup and re-engage. Why should AA's choices be handled differently?

The whole premise of AA's is to choose one then take that into battle. The fact we get to set loadouts now and change them between spawns enables you to counter a repeat player of the same AA.

I don't see what you're talking about and you've picked only one out of 5 possible counters I posted. The others don't require backing down, don't require a different AA selection on next spawn and still provide a better then 50/50 outcome against the so called OP PV+BS+camping.

Your point is moot.

When it's the same less than 5 posters with the same arguments and lack of constructive criticism they deserve it. Now go back over my 400 or so posts and see how often I call someone out vs. actually taking the time to create content worthy of discussion or informing the thread about something actually Halo related.

Perhaps some will actually take something to heart and this thread can improve.

Will not buy these maps after this trial. Complete crap
I think in general the gametypes for them are bad. Waypoint CTF, Oddball, KotH, Extraction, none are truly good for things like Harvest or Wreckage (especially). Shatter CTF played pretty well; still astounds me they keep BTB as Slayer. But once the DLC playlist goes away and Shatter goes in BTB, it'll disappear and never show up - if it does it will be Infinity Slayer anyways. No thanks.

As for the worst map pack: Orbital, Assembly, and Sandbox. Sandbox provided a little bit of custom variants, but the others were big turds. I fault the variants around these maps as the big problems, not necessarily their design. AA's, the upgrades, and lack of any fun gametypes, just awful.

4. *Speculation* Possible weapon rebalance
bsAngel: No hard news on this at this time. Sorry.

Listen, I'll defend the game as much as the next person as I still enjoy the base gameplay and time with friends, but you can't honestly say this forum is without constructive criticism. This place is overly negative sometimes, but it's full of complaints backed up with suggestions and possible solutions for fixing.

Oh, and that guy who wanted 343 to cut off their collective dick in a wood chipper.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I think my biggest disappointment is with how acceptable it has become to just shit all over a game in a community thread OT. It is embarrassing for people who actually like the game. It is very damn close to grade school playground mentality to degrade something to the point where showing any appreciation is laughed at.

Where do the people who like Halo post?

It's hard to get an adequate population sample from an online population as small as the current Halo 4 population is.

I've said it before, here it is again. Peak population is not unique players or games played per day. They are completely different statistics. Halocharts, Waypoint and in game statistics may not even be tracking accurately plus there is no official API integration (hopefully as yet).

For now all we have that is rock solid is Major Nelson, where in mid November Halo 4 as number 2 on the XBL charts. I await the next XBL charts from Major Nelson to gauge Halo 4 population.

Perhaps Frankie could clarify some of these population statistics. I'll happily agree if it's up or down but at least look at the correct and verifiable statistics first.

NeoGAF consistently reference peak population and it's not the correct statistic.

Oh, and that guy who wanted 343 to cut off their collective dick in a wood chipper.

I respect much of what the "circle jerkers" have to say, I even agree and put myself in that category with them for a playlist or two. However when they drown out other posters and create ill feeling towards developers it's not a OT worthy experience really is it?

I was going to correct you hear. Butt I don't half the hart.

Nice grammar slip by me, a bit of typing going on work and this forum wise.

So what you're saying is that you don't like porn talk, yoga pants, and speed runs. Got ya.

I do enjoy that as much as the next guy, even posted some of my own blonde vs. brunette gamer outfits if you recall. However when the OT starts with "game stinks" and Nintendo talk makes up more than a full page of posts and replies it gets a little out of hand.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I think my biggest disappointment is with how acceptable it has become to just shit all over a game in a community thread OT. Where do the people who like Halo post?

There are plenty who like it, same as Reach even and I think this OT as well as some of the general attitude just contributed to less developer interaction and lurkers really. I thoroughly enjoy debate, reading why someone is unhappy or thinks something is OP but I draw the line at just never taking on board what others say and twisting things to suit an personal outcome.

...There's a playlist population counter in the game.

edit: Doesn't Waypoint track this as well?

Unless you want to sit there and add totals all day then track trends etc it's again not the statistic you are looking for. That's just a snapshot at a given time and is NOT a total of unique players per day or games played per day. Only two sources can provide this information accurately; 1. XBL, 2. 343i.

From what I've seen in my own personal games history, post carnage reports and what actually happened in game I'm not so sure we can even trust the 343i statistics at the moment. This in turn makes the Halocharts statistics unreliable too without entering into no API support either. Personally the major nelson chart is probably all we're going to get that is reliable, Halo as second most played on XBL is a good thing, #1 would be better of course.

Note: I've top posted enough for today, mean no offense to anyone specifically but would like to see these Halo OT's improve in terms of content depth and constructive criticism or developer feedback. Good night all.
