You know who else Tange Sakura played?

Sakura is so unfuckingbelievably cute.
Its kind of ridiculous really.

Nausicaa of The Valley of The Wind

One of the most beautifully crafted worlds I have seen in a animated film. The animation was masterful and the film score was amazing. This is one I will remember for a very long time.

I looooooooooove world building.
Thats why I have enjoyed ShangriLa so much.
Its kind of similar to Nausicaa in some ways actually. Very good stuff.

For those of you who have taken the time to examine this seasons chart you may notice that, outside of a couple of potentially shows, it looks like the vast majority of what will be airing over the next few weeks will be forgettable garbage. To help pass the time a number of us will be watching 'backlog' titles - anime series that aired sometime ago but that we missed watching at the time. The advantage of retroactively visiting these shows is that as they are older we already know what people think of them and as such we can chose to watch only well received shows. Moreover, if more than one person watches one of these backlog titles at the same time then there exists the potential to have a discussion about them. A certain unnamed internet forum does this quite regularly and they seem to enjoy doing it.

Backlog Schedule

Unknown.

This breakdown is quite appreciated.

As for the backlog schedule, I'll have the one down soon for my/sonicmj1's set. It will be one-a-day as described before.

Wandering Son was so good. Wish I could watch it again for the first time.

I'm looking forward to it!

Yami time, bitches. Though this may be the only episode I watch tonight. I'd like to keep an eye on the Boys/Skins game, plus I also bought the Castle in the Sky blu-ray. May also play something.

Every season these kinds of posts always appears, I'm curious as to what you guys (everyone) want in an anime to appeal to you.

Basically I just hate slice-of-life. These show are really pointless after some episodes, at least for me.

And, since I not your common anime fan, I don't care about moe or shit like that, which seems to be 95% of the Winter List. Of course, something can actually be interesting, but from the premises, there's nothing like that for me.

Mouryou no Hako, Hataraki Man and Wandering Son sound like things I could enjoy. I'd love some other suggestions from anyone. I've only really gotten into anime more than a passing interest in the last few months or so. As long as it has well written characters or an interesting story I'm up for it. And don't think anything is too obvious.

FMA
Death Note
Monster
Steins;Gate
Robotics;Notes
Jojo's
Say "I love you"
SAO
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun

That's all I've watched or am watching right now, at least that I can remember. So just suggest anything
that is actually good.

I also just started watching GIRLS und PANZER. It seems like a fun show but I don't know if it really interests me past its ridiculous premise.

Space Brothers (live-action version)

Shun Oguri's wig is pretty damn good in this film. It doesn't even come off when he shampoos it! Maybe he got his actual hair permed for the film. I don't know.

Anyway, for those of you familiar with Space Brothers this film will hold very few surprises. Due to it only being 2 and a bit hours long it really speeds through the material, getting further than the anime has to date after nearly three seasons. There are some obvious changes - the second exam is massively simplified, for instance, although it hits most of the same story beats over half an hour or so that the anime did in several episodes - and a corresponding shallowness of characterisation. With that said, they basically characterise Serika effectively in a 1 minute long speech, and there's no time for wacky hijinks with burglars and American chat shows, so it's not all bad.

I guess everyone finds different things in Space Brothers to be entertaining, and it seems from many of the recent posts about the show that people enjoy Mutta's inexorable head to becoming an astronaut more than Hibito's storylines. The story makes very little attempt to bridge the gap between them - they're only together for about 10 minutes of screen time as adults - but the film feels as though it plays up the significance of their emotional bond more than the anime does (although bear in mind I dropped the anime during the second exam arc so this could be me reading more into it than is actually there). I'd actually prefer this - I guess I've always felt that for a story called Space Brothers there's very little brotherhood actually in it - so the tone was interesting to me.

The acting's pretty good from everyone, even the Americans (although the most famous of all of them isn't exactly a brilliant actor...) - there's a surprisingly large amount of English dialogue in the film and the Japanese actors mostly cope with it. Production values are strong given it's a Japanese film; the special effects are decent if a bit on the cheap side, and they've clearly filmed a lot on location for authenticity. Some of the close-ups are a bit Tom Hooper in their intensity but they mostly work, even if neither lead actor can apparently cry to order.

Other important points:

Yuri content - none
Homoeroticism - two men showering next to each other
Prominent dog genitalia - unfortunate

Oh wow, they found white actors to play the American parts? Did they even go to Houston? How did they handle the English? lol

What's crazy is that he only played her route because he didn't want to cheat on her!

It's too bad they didn't really finish it. Even Arino was able to get the TokiMemo girl. lol

Live action Space brothers might be good but it could be kind of expensive unless the special effects for the rocket and anti gravity look super cheap.

They can only play so much, especially when they only film once every season.

Wow, this Rurouni Kenshin Live Action Movie is really great. I can't really see how they can do anything better than this in movie format with the time constraint they have. And it is a pretty long movie too.

Kaoru was miscast... she's really cute . I can understand the decision for not involving Yahiko on battles and all... Sanosuke wasn't that good.

But they nailed Kenshin.

I didn't like the soundtrack btw. Too "epic" for my liking. Everything needs to be orchestrated on movies? Fuck!

Oh wow, they found white actors to play the American parts?

Spoilers, people, for the anime up to date and the film!

Yes, but only Hibito's crew members (Damien et al) appear in the film. Jessica and so forth aren't in it.

Did they even go to Houston?

Only for the first trip, when Mutta goes to visit Hibito at home, meets Apo and discovers the letters with Hibito's last wishes, and for Hibito's launch. The extra exam in Houston for Mutta doesn't happen - the film ends after the third exam in the capsule and concurrent events in Hibito's life, which I won't mention as they haven't happened in the anime yet.

How did they handle the English? lol

There's a lot of English in the film, whether on screen or spoken. Most of it is spoken by native speakers and subtitled - it's generally spoken quite slowly and with a bit of exaggeration, presumably to make it easier for Japanese audiences to understand. Both Mutta and Hibito have to speak English; neither actor is fluent, clearly, but both are understandable and have a grasp of English speaking cadence, with Hibito being the better of the two. The English dialogue is written in the correct vernacular as well, which was a pleasant surprise - it's not Engrishy at all.

It was great until the show became all about those stupid kids and their crippling social disorders. Any normal kids would have said something before letting shit hit the fan the way it did and it would have spared us all that terrible melodrama.

More focus on the grownups would have been great.

As was said about a month ago, still planning on watching Mouryou no Hako & Windy Tales this season.

Will rewatch Trapeze if Winter truly is awful and I don't find anything outside of Tamako to watch.

Occult Academy EP 1
This was the same case as Xamd. I saw it on Righstuf and later ran into it randomly on crunchyroll. Decided to check it out since Girls und Panzer is finished for now and I want something new to watch. Nothing went the way I expected it to which was awesome. The main character is a a stubborn girl to say the least. Japanese Velma and thigh highs... I like this show already.

Weird you mention Xam'd since this show quickly falls apart, too. Never hit the highs Xam'd did, but collapses faster.

I'm just fumbling in the dark at the moment when it comes to anime. I just need an interesting cover and synopsis to draw me in. Crunchyroll's streaming and 12 episodes makes it too easy to get trapped, I guess. Also, I take more risks than before because I find that sometimes I close myself off to much. I thought Haruhi would be garbage until I saw the two seasons and it turned out decent(except for that endless night bullshit) so I like to keep an open mind.

Xam'd kinda lost me after a while, but I enjoyed the visual and liked the end well enough. The show really went places considering it all started on a peaceful little island nation.

Yami To Boushi To Hon No Tabibito 7

I just headbutt myself in the balls.

Sooooo many stupid things going on in this episode. Let's go through them.

For one, it is revealed that Seiren was trying to use Miruka's power for her gain. Who reveals this? Some guy who appears out of absolutely nowhere. Who is this guy? Seiren wonders the same thing, and asks the guy. He may as well have said, "Your momma", because he doesn't introduce himself in any fashion. I think it's the same guy who was seen on the boat with Hiruka and the tiger taking her across the sea before the story got told. Doesn't mean wh have any idea who the fuck he is though. Oh, it's also revealed Hiruka has no magic. The "kurikuri" (I don't remember what this is, and I don't give enough fucks to check) prevents her from growing up. And that "kurukuri" is just some tiny girl looking into a book back at the library. What? I don't know.

Oh, yeah, remember when Hiruka was seen sinking after the Red Sea enclosed on her (what the fuck was that about, by the way? Do the writers of this show even know what they're alluding to? If they do, is there any sort of parallel whatsoever, or is it more stupid bullshit?)? Turns out the tiger saved her. Yes, you read that right, the tiger swam all the way out and dove, I don't know, I suppose about 50 feet, and swam back with her. Pretty sure no tiger in the history of the world has ever done this. Yes, they're best friends. So I suppose it's not surprising that this show is now playing the "Because friendship" card.

Then, for some reason, this show decides to go back to a time between Hatsuki and Hatsumi. I don't know why the show couldn't have done this before, you know, when I was actually somewhat curious about their relationship. Anyway, it's a story about forbidden love between them. Both of them are in love with each other and neither of them can say it to the other (at least not in person). At some point, Hatsuki says that "her aura saved me from my illness", or some shit like that. To which I yelled out, "WWWHHHAATTTTT?!" First off, more stupid "Because magic" shit-throwing. Protected by aura; what the fuck is that shit? Second off, SINCE FUCKING WHEN WERE YOU FUCKING SICK?! This is the first I'm hearing about it! You can't just pull bullshit like that out of your ass and expect me to know what the fuck you're talking about! WHERE DID THEY FIND THESE WRITERS?!

I'm going to come out of the bruised and scarred.

The actual list of their top 5s hasn't been posted yet. Do you remember what any of them were? lol
FLCL at four on the main guy's, Wolf's Rain at least twice, Black Lagoon S2, Gankutsuou. Didn't finish it yet.

Edit: Oh yeah, there was also Koi Kaze. I think there was something called Flag too. I don't know if that was this or the last one.

Yeah it's basically "free" advertising for the show in magazines, but some magazines require certain specific things to qualify. So for magazines aimed at dirty fangirls, there is usually a condition that they only want male characters in the poster artworks, and for lewd magazines for males they want something more raunchy or there's no point running it. Shows can choose to not feature in magazines, but that's a loss of visibility for the production.
Originally I would have thought of Megami and Nyantype as being more in a licensed merchandise-maker position than a promotional position, but Megami's so established at this point that I guess there probably really are people who watch a show because of Megami rather than buy Megami because of the show.

You haven't seen Spice and Wolf? Its really good.
Holo is a cutie.

I have yet to watch either season one or two other than previews, but I do own all of the current translated light novels from Yen Press. I am a bit surprised that the fourth novel was skipped in regards to the anime though.

The show has a slow pace.
Its really relaxed. Its very intelligent though.
Holo is as wise as she is cute.
Lawrence's chemistry with her is marvelous.
Oh and dont piss Holo off.
Not a good idea.
