Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

I don't think any store carries them anymore. Some of us have been lucky to get one when ArcadeShock got some Japanese ones in stock (brand new), but that was a rare case, it seems. I just got myself a brand new Japanese Famicom Micro from eBay. Shipped to Denmark, by the way, but definitely not cheap. The used ones are much cheaper.

I found a used blue one with charger for €60, should I bite or wait and see if I can find it cheaper later?

I've bought mine, used but boxed and complete with charger and a Supercard SD for 50 euro (+ 10 euro for shipping) off ebay a few months back.

Yeah, I love my M3 Lite Perfect too. For best GBA flashcart it's a toss-up between the M3 Lite Perfect (and maybe EZ-Flash IV) and the EZ-Flash II for me.

Aside from RTC, the M3 Lite Perfect also has real-time saves, which is a great feature I don't think any other GBA flashcart has. The in-game reset to the menu is pretty cool as well. Oh, and being able to have multiple saves!

I hate the skins though, do you have a decent one? It's also a shame that it takes quite a while to start playing: first it shows that "not endorsed by Nintendo" disclaimer, then it loads the menu, next you have to go to 'Game' and finally it has to load the game you want to play too.

EZ-Flash IV doesn't have real-time saves nor an RTC, but it loads quite a bit faster so there's that.. It still has perfect compatibility and lots of storage so it's a great option anyway.

The EZ-Flash II lacks in space (biggest version is 1 Gbit / 128 MB and was quite rare, not to mention expensive) but it does have RTC, perfect compatibility, soft reset back to the loader and it's a pure NOR-based cart so there's zero loading times whatsoever. You power on your GBA, 1-2s later it shows the loader, you select your game and it just boots. It also has a low power chip so it only uses 1.8v instead of 3.3v like retail carts.

The M3 Lite Perfect was about $90 when it was first released which was quite expensive at the time, compared to other flashcarts. It's worth a lot more these days since (all features compared), it's the best GBA flashcart that's ever been released.

You talk all about the EZ-Flash II & IV, but what about the III? All the perfectness of the II with more space.

Yay

Got myself a cheap £7 pink micro. Battered case and faceplate...but the LCD is mint. Replacing my dead pixel struck LCD on my otherwise mint micro with that. Also swapping the battery too, as this one lasts hours more than my current one.

I also got a pretty cheap backlit SP. Screen is mint, but the console is a bit scratched. Any replacement cases available online for the SP?

Anyway. I've got the ultimate gba combo now. an ez flash IV, a micro for gaming on the go and the backlit SP for gaming at home. And the screen on it is fucking amaaaazing.

Uggh, that's the one I want! Mine is plain black but I still love it <3333

It goes in the truck with me everywhere I go for those times when I need to play for a few minutes. Current game in the micro is FFVI Advance.

At first I thought I wouldn't be playing it a lot because of the tiny screen, but I got usec to it real fast and I'm going through Street Fighter Alpha 3 right now :p

I've been posting in this thread for a while and was lurking it for years before I joined GAF, so I figure it is time to show my collection.

First up is my Famicom micro, which I bought the week they came out. I frequently used it and it has a lot of scratches. I have also had to replace the battery. Everyone has to get this one at least.

KRXoQ.jpg

Next is my all black. I got this from eBay so I have no clue if it is a Japanese one or if someone just switched faceplates. It is almost mint though. It looks even better when the low-power red buttons go on.

ddLEf.jpg

Finally, my green one. My favorite one. I wanted this one so bad and hunted for a year. They never show up in America. I was scouring Germany's eBay and translating the text to see if they shipped here. I finally found one and it is so beautiful. The faceplate is flawless but the buttons are REALLY worn. Whoever had this loved it to death. Harvest Moon is almost always in there.

Some sexy pictures up in here! Just as many others I finally had my tiny long time dream fulfilled, although my phone picture doesn't really do it justice

bJblq.jpg

It's hard to play it for more than 15 minutes without part of my hands beginning to sleep, but the portability just makes it so nice. It's really impressive how they managed to cram all that in there :)
I'll probably replace the battery (notice the red lights? ;) ), found a cheap supply in Denmark (about 10$) but I am having a hard time locating a replacement faceplate - of any color! Does anybody have a stash or know where to get them?

I loved the Gameboy Micro. To be honest, I actually prefer playing GBA games on the Micro than the SP. I just thought that the Micro was a little more comfortable because it was slightly wider than the SP and had longer shoulder buttons.

Sure, the screen was tiny but the definition was so good that it wasn't an issue. Played through Metroid: Fusion, the Golden Sun games, Advance Wars 1 & 2, Ninja Five-O and dozens of other GBA games.

Faceplates are impossible to find. Someone got a few from Nintendo of Australia:

Hmm so it seems Nintendo Australia has the following faceplate colours available:
Light blue
Purple
Silver
Red

So I ordered 2 red for $9.95 AUD each plus $9.95 AUD shipping to NZ...
But then he said the red might actually be red with silver, he couldn't say, lol.

I will probably mod one anyway to an image I like, if I can find my crafty side again :p

Most of the time, if they come up on ebay, they are ~$25 used. Might as well buy a whole micro for the faceplate as well as spare parts (buttons, screen, shoulder springs).

Happy with my two but am contemplating getting a flashcart for my micro for use...

Was looking at the EZ Flash iV but dunno if there are any better options. I'd like to be able to play my patched Mother 3 on my micro versus my PSP.

Are there any noticeable cons to getting a Micro over a GBA SP?

Since switching from an Xperia Play to an iPhone 5 I have been jonesing for gba gaming. Want the Micro but the SP is running for half the price on eBay & Craigslist.

I think taste is the only difference - Get your grabs on both if you can, and let your hands decide :)

Taste is one way to put it. Also of course the smaller screen and overall size on the Micro. Which is part of the appeal. I usually prefer to play my GBA games on my Micro instead of the SP.

The reason I keep my SP around though, and something you should be aware of, the Micro only plays GBA games. No backwards compatibility with GB or GBC games. If that is not a problem and you only intend to play GBA stuff, then I'd say the Micro is worth it.

I finally got around to load my Flash IV today and playing Mother 3 in English on my Micro is just... amazing. All I've ever wanted. A little dream came true for me today.

I did this last year. I busted my R button so I need to pay Ninty 60 bucks to fix it. Meh, I'm better off getting another Micro but ugh

Asked yesterday but no response, is the Flash iV the best card or are there other options in terms of flash carts. I want to play Mother 3 in English as well.

Thanks.

Is this better than the ez flash iv?

Yes, yes it is. It has a slowdown on only a few games. It also doesn't have the problem of having your micro sd in adapter, or mini Sd get stuck into, never to be removed again. Also the Ez flash's are terribly made and crack apart very easy. The supercard also has a realtime save function where you can save, one game at a time, anywhere.

Mine arrived awhile ago, I'm gonna put some photos up soon when I get a chance since my Micro collection has recently become a bit bigger. I got two red faceplates (they did turn up as plain red after all which is cool) and thinking of ordering a few more if I can (while I can).

Would you be interested in shipping some to the US? I would love to buy a red one.

As others have said, the micro can feel a little cramped and only plays GBA games.

But the micro has much nicer buttons than the SP (I feel the SP's are too clicky and small).

The screen is much less saturated, making it better at showing subtle color differences. If you do go SP, make sure it is the AGS-101, not AGS-001. The AGS-101 is brighter than the micro, the AGS-001 is a lot less bright.

Also, you don't feel like a 5 year old when you whip a micro out in public. I always feel stupid using the SP.

I wouldn't mind doing it, but I'm not sure how cost effective it would be at $10 AUD each + $10 AUD shipping and then whatever it costs to ship to the US. If there's anyone from Australia here it might be better since they won't have to pay two lots of shipping.

I hadn't charged my GB Micro in 3 years. The last game in it was TMNT. It was on low battery when I last turned it off years ago. This sticks out in my mind because I recall having lost the charger. I dug it out about a week ago after seeing this thread and ordered a replacement charger from Nintendo. After I ordered it, just to see what would happen, I decided to turn it on. It turned on with the same low battery light. I didn't cancel the charger order, even though this battery clearly will last forever.

That's what I love about Nintendo's batteries. Sony not so much, I can't leave my PSP or Vita for a few days without the battery running fully dry, even while they're completely switched off!

Just took a photo of my buffed up collection, not sure where I put the other Famicom faceplate but I'm digging my new red faceplate with the NES skin. That's my one that I play. The other one is brand new, won't be touching it much I don't think.

Got back on this thing recently to see if I could finish up Fire Emblem Rekka no Ken. It's so nice being able to just pull it out of any pocket and play a turn whenever I want.

Guys, help. Is any of these low-tier games worth playing?

- Advance Guardian Heroes
- Gekido Advance
- The Hobbit [seems like a passable RPG]
- The Lost Vikings [Lemmings-like, by Blizzard, I'm intrigued]
- The Revenge of Shinobi [To be honest I'll buy this anyway because I'm a Shinobi fanboy]
- Sigma Star Saga
- Super Dropzone
- Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams
- Tak and the Power of Juju
- Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2
- Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 3
- X2: Wolverine's Revenge

Ahh, yeah the double shipping will be killer. I'm going to just look for a new micro to cannibalize. The springs in my green one's shoulders are bad and my black one has scratched buttons.

I should give one of these a try someday. The GBA is my favorite handheld ever, but the Micro's screen always seemed way too tiny to me. The idea of it being so ultra portable is definitely appealing, though.

Anyone know where I can find a new Famicom micro faceplate? Mine is pretty scuffed up and it would be nice to have one that isnt.

Buy a new Famicom Micro. Its hard enough as it is just to find regular faceplates. Finding a Famicom one will be completely impossible.

I foolishly sold my Famicom Micro a few months ago and I'm now looking to replace it. However, I recently got a GBA SP and now I'm wondering whether an AGS-101 might be a better bet than the Micro.

To those of you who have both, which do you play more?

And for those of you who have bought a Famicom Micro recently, how much did you pay?

I got my first micro last year, and I'm loving it. It's hot pink, came in box for ~$70 shipped, which I thought was a pretty good deal at the time. Here she is:

Actually if any micro nuts would like to see more pictures, I have more on my blog

I'd really like a blue or a green one, but I don't know if I'll bring myself to get them. I missed out on most of the GBA generation, so I'm having fun catching up!

Yep. My first Famicom Micro I got at a good price but the faceplate has a weird scrape on it. I looked for years to get another one and have not found one to this day. The best I could find was the Player 2 plate and that costs more than a Famicom Micro anyways.

Mine was $99 USD and brand new, but I had to pay another $30 USD to ship it here to NZ. No regrets! It was a crazy deal at Arcade Shock though so not sure if you'd find one for that price again unless you're super lucky.

Loving that hot pink Micro! Gorgeous! I'm now on the hunt for one. :). If you want to show off that new screen and catch up on some GBA games, check out Yoshi's Island and Zelda Minish Cap. Both are superb games regardless of format, but on this little guy they are extra impressive.

Re: Transferring saves from your carts to a flash:

I've been backing up and transfarring SNES/Genesis saves to my PC/ipad with a Retrode. There is a gba adapter coming out soon and I'm on the list to get the first batch.

It's a bit pricey, but worth it for me for the saves backup and transferring from real carts to emus, and back to carts.

Crazy but serious offer: I've backed up a bunch of stuff for friends and colleagues, so if anyone wanted to ship over a couple games, I'd be more than happy to help out and then shoot em back to you.

I know the Micro can't play GB & GBC games natively, but can it do so through the use of a flash cart? Found my old EZ Flash II

You can probably swap the buttons out for newer looking ones to make it look more fresh.

Was being dumb about the fitting flush thing before. Only needed that on the DS lite. =P

Oh well, gotta wait for more stock it seems. Hopefully this thread'll help with that.
