If they wait until May, Destination Playstation and GDC are going to be all sorts of awkward, bordering on a waste of time.
This is what I'm thinking. For Destination PlayStation, this is stated:
We're excited to announce the 13th Annual Destination PlayStation event, hosted by Sony Computer Entertainment America, February 25-28, 2013.
This year's destination brings us back to the picturesque Sonoran Desert and the luxurious Fairmont Scottsdale Princess resort. As our guests, you'll be treated to food, drink, play, and a first look at all the amazing new releases coming from Sony Computer Entertainment America Entertainment in 2013.
Now, I don't expect this event to detail every single title coming in 2013 for that would be very absurd. However, there's bound to be something new for the only titles currently announced for both PS3 and PS Vita, for North America anyway, are the following:
- God of War: Ascension
- MLB 13: The Show
- Puppeteer
- Soul Sacrifice
- Tearaway
- The Last of Us
- Until Dawn
- Wonderbook: Diggs Nightcrawler
Maybe there's some title forgotten, but these are the most important first party titles anyway. For third party titles, which are usually also presented, these are what I can think is most interesting for retailers:
- Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel
- BioShock Infinite
- Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2
- Crysis 3
- Dark Souls II
- Dead or Alive 5 Plus
- Defiance
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Injustice: Gods Among Us
- LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
- Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
- Remember Me
- Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist
- Tomb Raider
I haven't been able to find any press release about the event last year. The only one I could find was for
Destination PlayStation 2009 and that details things as "Hannah Montana PSP Entertainment Pack", so bundles and such for Vita is probably going to be a thing this year.
In 2009, they previewed seven first party titles. They have one more this year of already announced titles. Will they announce something more? I don't know, but regardless of this being a fairly nice lineup it doesn't take away the potential problems arising from not at least discussing the next PlayStation console. If I attended this event as a member of retail I would sure want to know
something and not just sit there watching Jack & Co pretend that PlayStation 3 is just hitting its stride.
As for GDC, the same thing applies. The console will certainly be there in one way or another though maybe not for "public" display. If there's no comment on the business at GDC I would start to wonder what's going on.
