Still not seeing what is so graphically impressive about that game. It doesn't look that much different at all.

It looks a ton different than what these consoles can do. It looked like a modern game's CG cutscene but playable.

That being said it also looked like an ultra linear boring 3rd person shooter and I aint got time for that anymore. But it sure was pretty.

1313 is the best next gen game I've seen so far imo.

Me too, I seriously don't understand people saying 'there's nothing impressive about it'. What the hell? There's nothing close to it on PCs. Lighting, texturing and character models are top notch. Cinema-quality fx in some parts.

I don't think anyone isn't impressed by it. I think some people are trying to figure out why someone would think Watch_Dogs looked amazing and poo-pooed 1313 or Agni in the same breath or vice-versa.

Seriously, though, I'm much more interested in things other than graphics.

But with regards to the PC brigade... PCs will always have more powerful hardware components than consoles - this is never going to change.

Of course not. But if these rumours are true, both consoles will be handilyoutclassed by PC hardware that has been already available 2 years before their launch. This was no the case last gen.

However, a console is usually more than the sum of its parts, thanks to it being a standardised platform and also enjoying first party exclusives that'll never make it to PC shores. So, nothing is ever that black and white.

Correct. However devs can only optimize so much before they run into hardware limitations. And we can't ignore that the current generation was mostly won by multiplats such as Call of Duty.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Seconded. Never going to happen, but seconded.

:(

I really hope one of the changes with next-gen is more types of games like Viva Pinata. I'm hoping the generic shooter trend is almost over. Maybe with the extra power of these new consoles some companies will want to put new ideas into place.

My only hope is with indies, though.

Regarding RAM, I posted this in the other thread:

Regarding DDR3 in Orbis. It doesn't really make sense having 4GB of GDDR5 in the console since it's more expensive, and waste some of it with the OS. Maybe what some 'insiders' have claimed here (some stuff were close, others were off) is exactly regarding that? Maybe 4GB of GDDR5 for games and 1 or 2GB of DDR3 for the system OS? Or maybe 2GB of GDDR5 and 1 or 2GB of DDR3?

So with these rumoured specs, what kind of advancements could they do with AI?

As long as a developer puts his focus on the visual quality you won't see much difference to this generation. Better hardware helps but without good ideas (algorithms, etc.) and effort not much will change. Yes a better console lets you put 10000 drone like NPCs instead of 1000 but that is rather pointless.

Only 4GB of Ram? a year ago NeoGaf was calling people crazy for thinking they could get over 2 GB of Ram in a Next Gen console.
It's the same situation as with the Vita. Pre announcement: PLIZZ DUNT BEE $399.99!!1 Post: Y IZNT IT $199.99??!1

Insane For Sony
I still stand by my statement that Star Wars 1313 was wholly unimpressive and absolutely nothing that would make Average Joe Consumer look at and say, "Wow! What an upgrade! I must buy a new system for that!"
I don't have much hope for this game to impress with gameplay, but graphics, when you see them in non-crappy youtube format, look much better than what the average joe is used to.

This is all gameplay screencaps with no fake supersampling or anything. Also, particle animation is astounding in this game, and for sure better than anything I've seen of sorts.

I just cant believe that Sony would dedicate 1 GB of GDDR5 for OS stuff. Its going to be flat out disappointing if there's only 3 GB available for games.

It seemed to me like their were a lot more experimental, weird games during the PS2 gen, or maybe I'm just being nostalgic.

It'd be nice is someone created some new genres with the available tech.

A 10 meter larger radius around the player before enemy pop-in in Dynasty Warriors, I'm in.

I sure hope Sony does it again as I expect them to every gen pushing the envelope with state of the art technology and more power than other consoles in the same gen. I will be really disappointed if they don't.

Also hoping that 4GB is reserved for games only and they have separate ram for OS.

More leaks!!!

What? For the first time, you mean? The PSX was weaker than the Saturn and the 64 in many aspects, the PS2 was also weaker than the DC (!) in many aspects, as well as the GC and XBox, and the PS3 is in the same league as the 360, basically.

That is seriously crazy talk. I also expect "next-gen" versions of BioShock Infinite and Crysis 3 this fall.

It's not crazy talk. SW1313 seems like a normal 3rd person action game with high-res textures and PhysX effects, there's nothing groundbreaking about it. It looks great, but not mindblowing. Same for Watchdogs and the UE4 demo. I was not impressed by any of them. I've lived through some genuinely groundbreaking tech transitions and this one, I don't know, doesn't seem that special.

anyone who thinks SW1313 isn't impressive needs to get their eyes checked.

the lighting, particle effects, just everything in it looks a LOT better than anything done in a game. it really does look amazing IMO. your average joe would be impresses too because they're already impressed graphics on call of duty. Saying they wouldn't be impressed would be like saying the average joe isn't average anymore.

if they're impressed with a turd, they will be impressed with a gem because it's beyond the turd. once you pass a threshold for the avg joe, they stay impressed

So Oban is the GPU in the Xbox with esram at 550gb/s. chances are WiiU edram is at the same bus and bandwidth. But expect higher texture resolution (16k) or higher depending on environment detail and alpha resolution. Same for PlayStation.

That's not the issue. The average Joe wants CG quality :-/.

I'm concerned with only 4GB of RAM in the PS4.

That would just be a classic case of Sony doing Sony.

Watch them cut corners on things that matter like ram only to put in some overpriced hardware and technology that's not needed for games. While putting pressure on Devs to squeeze the last bit of processing capability out of the system in order to get results.

2GB GDDR5 VRAM should be more than enough for 60+fps 1080p gaming.

IF... you have additional 16GB DDR3 RAM.

and Console OS footprints getting obnoxiously big IMO.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
