Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

Fuck those non-stop spawning enemy waves and whoever thought it was "good design", I showed you.

And then I took a picture with a potato.

And then Camo+DMR causes me to put Halo 4 back in its case. This game...
Yeah, I did one game of Simplex, and while I liked the map, everyone would just spawn, find a nice spot, and then wait with the boltshot. Its just annoying.

Oh well, I needed to download the Ops episodes.

Its like when David Ellis was having a meeting with the Spartan ops team, one of them discovered they can use Phantoms to bring in objects other then Ghost and Wraiths.

So they attached Banshees to Phantoms, and then Sniper Towers, and then Shade Turrets all in one episode. None of which make sence to me but the shade turrets.

Not too far of a stretch. In Halo Reach they dropped random and timed armored shade turrets onto building tops in New Alexandria. In ODST they carried chains of weapon crates.

Had a really fun game of CTF on one of the new Forge maps today, the name escapes me ...

Some of them are pretty good smaller maps but one of the maps I played had a ridiculous amount of power weapons. I almost felt like I was being trolled by 343. Not only was the Ordnance offering Fuel Rod Cannons but there were Incineration Cannons and Rocket Launchers as weapon pick ups. Combine that with DMRs, Needlers, Boltshots and BRs as weapon pick ups and get the idea .... Framerate is pretty bad .. I guess these maps are still a work in progress?

All day today I've been getting matched with people who just aren't good at SpOps. Like, completely unnoticeable people. One guy was in full Mark VI and had the S117 service tag, and I had S104, so we were bros. But everyone else was weird. Like, every game I had double the kills and half the deaths of anyone else.

What do you expect? Bungie and 343 create this culture of everyone can come here and play there game, no ranks, everythings social, everybody have fun and dont worry about the score. Then you get mad when you have kids who cant even hold the controller sticks properly, and moms playing their first video game and you get mad?

Shame on you, quit being such an elitist. Everyone has the rights to have as many 3 and 21 games as they want.

core gameplay = false hope

something like that, yeah.

I know this might sound crazy, but some people don't mind AAs, ordnance, etc. and think Halo 4 is a better game because it has better mechanics when it comes to movement and shooting.

just because people don't mind the fact that they can select a mini shotgun as a secondary or see through walls, myself included, doesn't mean it isn't incredibly stupid.

and personal ordnance? in my experience (1500 games, SR130) the most challenging teams I've played hands down are the ones that literally sit their asses down in one corner of a map, power weapons handed to them - take one out? oh, thanks to instant respawn and global sprint he's back there in 2 seconds. people complain about camo (which when assigned to simply a button press is stupid but that's another topic in itself) leading to camping, well PO promotes fucking whole team camping especially at the higher end of the "skill" spectrum.

Does Spartan Ops even match by skill? I'd rather be matched by connection above all else.

So, nobody likes my Pro and Unlimited loadout idea? Thought it seemed like something that the pros and cartographers could dig without scrapping the system.

It's like the maps have... Flow.

Add delayed respawn times to Infinity Slayer and H4 is taking major steps in the right direction.

Definitely agreed. That's the next step. The maps almost work perfectly, but instant respawn just screws it all up and we're back at square one. A 5 second slayer respawn timer would go a long way.

The most useful AA in the set, hands down. Offensively, defensively, to cover open ground, and to fool players and AI alike. The holo-teabagging is just the cherry on top ;P

Yep. It's got so many uses, I love it. It also seems relatively balanced, like Thrusters.

Going to Dashboard seems to speed it up.

I noticed that Halo 4 will download in between games. I don't remember that being the case before, the Xbox would just pause it if you were in the menu.

Yes! What ever happened to having quick settings rundowns pre-match like in Halo 2? Why was that a bad thing?

Now, I said I loved AAs, but I wouldn't be opposed to having a different set of loadouts, and options for those loadouts. Say one set for WarGames (with restrictions: say no jetpacks, camo, hardlight shield, boltshot or plasma pistol, stickies), with an unrestricted set tied to Spartan Ops. Maybe even a Pro and Unrestricted loadout set for both, so maps that have been built around the unrestricted set could all the whizbang abilities, while cartographers who don't want to balance for the jetpack could do so as well by marking their map as Pro.

If we had separate loadout sets and restrictions, 343 would have some leeway to make changes in versus. As it stands right now, the loadout system really paints them into a corner.

Doesn't COD incorporate different loadouts for different modes (training vs. online versus)?

Something like that?

I have a great clip of me getting an assassination off a guy who was fooled by my hologram. Alas that I can't share it. Maybe soon.

Yeah, akin to that.

I think the easiest would be to have two sets of loadouts. Unlimited (everything enabled) and Pro (specific restrictions made by 343 to encourage competition). Playlists would use one or another, or if it could be done well enough, individual maps would use one or the other. Spartan Ops would always use Unlimited. The benefit here would be simplicity, in that players would always have a set of custom loadouts to use on any map, but also flexibility, as 343 could remove individual weapons, AAs and support options if they find them to be imbalanced or abused too much. Mapmakers would also have the option of designing their maps for either the Pro or Unlimited sets.

I think what you present is a great idea for customs though, as it is more fine grained at the cost of complexity.

One of its finer uses, definitely. Even at close range when somebody pops your shields and you strafe behind a rock - launch a hologram that leaves cover in one direction and then spin around the other side. Whammo.

Please keep in mind Scythe is a candidate for the Team Doubles playlist and may not be ideal when playing 4v4 Infinity Slayer.

For both IS and SWAT, one of which was 2v2 for half of the game, the spawns are completely broken. I would spawn at maybe 3 places on the entire map, ever. Both biggy and I got multikills on people who spawned in the exact same place we killed them. Biggy's was during SWAT in the rock garden thing where the enemy spawned like 20 feet away and mine was IS where I killed a guy grabbing the snipe off of its spawn and then killed him again right below it 2 seconds later.

Very, very, very, few times did spawns put you in a safe place when it was 4v4 though.

Also, Despair has what I consider to be an actually good map design with interesting flow that is totally negated by jetpack. Also, the forge pieces are often hard to distinguish and will blend together sometimes to where I thought there was a solid wall but it was a hallway blending in with the same puke color as the wall it was attached to.

Very much like Simplex. Timed Overshield is so refreshing.

Garrotte is pretty hectic for IS. I like most of the design though.

Didn't play Shutout.

Only got to play IS and SWAT last night, CTF never came up. These were my impressions.

To all you SR-130's out there - randomly after a game, does the XP rewards screen pop up?

Happens a few times every time for me.

Flechettes. Let me blast you in the face with purple flechettes.

Only know because a Halo CE/Halo 2 speed runner used that as his GT - Back then the Wiki page contained a rather graphic description of WWI flechettes being dropped from aircraft by the thousands over entrenched enemy troops, piercing helmets, and creating head to foot wounds. Whoa, idea for Halo 5 Ordnance Drops incoming...

I've played Simplex [Edit : Actually, it was Despair] and Shutout so far. Shutout is fun, but feels weird with the H4 sandbox. Simplex Despair is... okay. I need to play it more. It's ugly as hell, that's for sure.

So wait, you are telling me the community maps with community members behind choosing them (+Bravo) is are being well received from a lot of different parties. There's some kind of link in there.

Perfect

Tunavi would certainly agree to this as well.

What's the plan with these maps for split screen?

I loaded up Simplex earlier on and the frame rate was disgusting.

One thing I noticed is the superior use of the OST in the first Spartan Ops Mission. At the end "To Galaxy" starts playing and it really heats up the fight. Or the new or unknown music which was used in both missions. Why did 343i or the music distributor not release the whole album? I bought the most expensive edition and demand every music piece which is used in the game! :(

I really don't know the technical issues, even the DLC runs into this issue. This issue may plague Halo 4 entire "life", I hope it can be patched or at least receive feedback from 343 side.

So...basically Halo 2 HD ;)

Lol, I thought choosing your first specialization would just unlock those armor pieces immediately.

Fuck this shit, I'm out.
Hehe - it is kindof backwards. You should at least get the specialization ability at level 1. Otherwise whats the point of even seeing a player's current specialization in the menu? Not that it matters much as its still pointless to show a user's specializations as that doesn't tell you what they have equipped.

On another note, I wonder if 343 ever looked into a small icon overlay that could show up next to player names in-game to show their currently equipped AA. Maybe even make it something that could be toggled. That could go a long way into answering the problems some people have with AAs - namely that they're a trick you pull out of a rabbit's hat, with no visual cues that a user has one at the ready.

Halo 4.

You'll actually blast through the first levels rather quickly. It doesn't scale up like you might expect. You should have the superficial stuff after a few games, especially if you're doing Ops.

Just played Despair I think its called. Map was solid. First time on Halo in ages and I enjoyed it. Maybe all the circle jerk of hate on this thread got to me.

Not saying it was flawless but still I had fun and I'm eager to play more which is something I haven't felt in a long time.

Still backing the idea of a Classic playlist.

it's a test playlist

it's for testing

this is not the final configuration or home for these maps

Yeah I would assume that if any of these maps, or other Forge maps are considered for permanent homes in matchmaking that the settings and weapon settings would have to be consistent with the rest of matchmaking. As much as I hate global ordnance, I don't want to hop around to different settings on different maps (global ordnance on one, static on another, a combination of the two on a third). That is a mess.
