Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch |OT|

Almost 4 hours in. This might be my top jRPG this gen, well, its pretty close to this and Xenoblade. I'm still messing around the first town. Did my first bounty and did some quests for merit stamps. Please tell me though when you buy a reward it doesn't consume stamps? If they do that will take lots of time trying to get everything.

The music is amazing, the graphics are amazing. I just love Level-5 and their jRPG's.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Your first mistake was reading a Jim Sterling review and assuming it provided anything of value.
Whatever, Jim's a good writer and his persona doesn't make his opinions less appropriate. Either way, this review was glowing for the most part.

Yes it does consume the stamps on the merit badge when you claim a reward. But you'll start getting quests and bounties that are four or five stamps after a few hours into the game. I wonder how many merit badges the question mark rewards eventually cost...

Well mine got delivered. Now the long wait till my kids go to bed. I will hopefully get some time with it tonight so I have something to talk about with everyone tomorrow. This is the first game in a long time that went from not even on my radar to incredible hype.

Don't know if this has been talked about yet, but I got this in an email from Prima:

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Prima Official Game Guide is NOW AVAILABLE! It includes an EXCLUSIVE GOLD HURLY FAMILIAR DLC, only available by purchasing the guide. Get it on Amazon!

Plus, it also features strategy to help you fully explore this vibrant and beautiful world.  The extensive walkthrough guides you through every puzzle, boss fight, errand and bounty hunt so you can get the most out of your game.

The Gold Hurly DLC is only available in North America.

It's the last bit that worries me. Can I really not use Hurly with my PAL game? I bought the guide for Hurly from a UK based shop too (Book Depositary UK).

:-(

Ordered the Prima guide through Amazon two seconds ago.

The stock won't be refilled until January 28th and I should have it by the 31st. Not too bad. By that point it'll probably be excellent timing.

My guide from Amazon.ca is still "Not Yet Shipped" and I pre-ordered the day it became available. It says that it's available within 1 to 3 weeks on the website too. Here's hoping the 1 to 3 weeks is for new orders and not mine. >_<

The US Amazon site? They keep changing the date... Said 1-2 months at one point today, then the 27, and now the 28. Who knows when it'll come!

Also, DLC codes are region-locked, apparently.

I'm having a hard time deciding between Japanese or English voices. I usually go with the original voices, in this case Japanese, which I understand a little. However, the English dub sounds good to me.

Which language are you guys going with?

Gonna have to go with the English. I've heard so much about Drippy's Welsh accent that I can't miss out.

Way I read it, he liked the game but he just wasn't good enough to play without grinding. Most JRPGs can be played grind-free if you play smart, in my experience.

Pretty much this. I usually always...always watch/play/etc. my material in its native language, but from what I've seen the English dub is really well-done. Supposedly the Japanese dub isn't as high-quality as it should be, and playing Ni no Kuni in English will bring back a lot of fond memories of Dragon Quest VIII. >:)

Yup the US site. It said the 27th earlier this morning and when I just went to order it it said the 28th. I don't mind. I know I'll get it and I have plenty to keep me preoccupied while I wait. Ill probably just end up grinding like crazy and not proceed much through the story until it arrives.

I wonder if the allegedly low quality of the original Japanese dub can be detected by non-Japanese speakers.

Hmmm, some of the pages in the in-game companion book shows movies if you zoom in close enough... Interesting. Was just fooling around with it when I came across some.

No luck at the Target by my job. Either they didn't get it, or they haven't put any on the shelves yet. The lady wasn't very helpful, claiming that it wasn't being sold in stores (*inisert eye roll here*). I was on my lunch break with two other co-workers who wanted to buy it, and we didn't have time to fight with her.

I'll either check back at the Target when I get off work, or go to the *ugh* Gamestop by my house on the way home. I'd prefer to not buy it from Gamestop, but if Target doesn't have it I may not have a choice.

I can't wait to pick this up. watching gameplay videos has really taken me back to the old days of JRPG's being older these days with a daughter I play more boardgames with family then anything else. This seems right up my alley.

Unlikely. Most games that have had crappy Japanese VA (and dual audio) have gone fairly undetected by non-speakers in my experience.
I guess it has to be an extreme case, or screwing up the wordless stuff like yelling or crying. Still, knowing it's supposed to be a bad performance fully pushed me over, it doesn't really seem like a setting where Japanese makes sense anyway.

Oh, as for shipping choices: Yeah, this is another reason I wouldn't ahve wanted to splurge on 1 day with Namco. I was going to wait regardless clearly, second day for just $3 more will do.

Playing this game gives me a VERY good feelings.... oh wow what a joy ;_;

I haven't played it yet but if its fun and innocent with a decent story, that is exactly what I need. I just can't handle the barrage of FPS and violent games anymore.

I still enjoy them on a rare occasion but there is a lot to be said for good feelings :)

Originally had tomorrow off but turns out I have to work and have Thursday off instead..major bummer. Especially when I had the whole day planned to just sit in my pjs and play the hell out of this.

Picked the game up right at 10am opening this morning, installed it, but haven't gotten myself to play it yet (even though I've been obsessing over it 24/7). Got caught up with DVR and fuckin around on the web.

For those that got it at Gamestop, the only pre-order bonus was the steelcase, right? There were no DLC codes on the receipt or anything, correct? Cause I literally tossed it out within seconds, lol.

Watching my girlfriend play through it right now (she picked up her pre order during lunch and rushed home). Cute game. The subtitles are very well written as well.
