After looking at the above comparison shots, I like the shadows in some parts of Windfall in the remake. Windfall looks less lively without any distinct shadowing in parts of it.

On the flipside, I hate how the clouds are seemingly causes shadows to appear on the water. That's probably an issue with how early these screenshots really are but it is something to note regardless and keep an eye out for in future screenshots/videos.

Character models could be shaded to be more cartoony (it honestly really feels like they did a quick port job of the models... Link's eyes look all pixely and grainy while Tetra's don't) but other than that I think they look better in some ways (maybe it's just because the models have more color, I don't know, probably because of the lack of the shading).

Honestly, it looks good in some parts and others it looks horrendous. I'm sure they'll find a good balance and probably address the character models and we'll probably see these minor improvements by E3.

We saw zero footage, which is odd considering it's coming out in less than a year. Makes me think these are just test shots that were made during R&D for Wii U Zelda.

What? You don't like that clouds cast shadows? You know clouds actually do cast shadows, right? That's a thing... in real life.

If you look at some of the photos of land, you'll see that the clouds cast shadows on the land too... Particularly in the penultimate comparison.

Personally, I am beginning to like the lighting changes with regards to scenery. I agree that it makes it look more alive... more interesting. The original kind of looks dull and boring now.

Still not sure about the changes to character shading.

hmm I'll quote, easier to compare when they aren't so huge. Top is Dolphin, bottom is Wind Waker HD

Wait which one is more colorful? Sometimes I think the original, sometimes I think the HD version.

Honestly though, they need to tone down the bloom, but everything else I like.

It really does just look like they've pulled the assets from Wind Waker and played around with them a bit.

I think the tri-force quest will still be there, but they'll make it easier to find them and less costly. And hopefully they make the 2 fire and ice mini-dungeons into full dungeons. And speed up the wind waker animations.

But I'm not expecting much. It'll be nice to play this on the Gamepad at least.

There's really not much to by. We didn't even nighttime screens. I think it looks neat but these are just screens of a game that's probably coming in November so we're way early. I expect its going to change a lot visually. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it got delayed considering how nit picky EAD is with Zelda.

I hope nothing else gets changed. A visual upgrade is enough for me. The game was perfect the way it was.

When it's hard to see in broad daylight because the shadows being cast are so dark, there's a problem. I can't see how anyone thinks this is comfortable to look at. And the characters look so, so bad and unsuitable to the world around them. I really don't understand how anyone thinks this looks good unless all they did was quickly glance at the picture of the entire island for a few seconds.

And the problem with the cloud shadows is that they're being cast like they're 50 feet above the ground and made out of concrete with how small and dark they are.

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
By the way...

Is there any screen-grabs of the link character model from that Dolphin thing without the cell-shading on? I'm curious to see if the 3D mesh is much less detailed than the version we are seeing in this HD remake shot.

Aside from the obvious bloom, they've also raised the resolution of the textures and revamped the lighting engine. Really looks nice, much better than any of the Dolphin stuff I've seen. Also glad to hear they have tweaked elements of the game itself; hopefully that includes changing the fetch quest near the end.

Yeah that's what I've been saying. It feels like these screens were taken when the Zelda team were just messing around with the visuals and they came up with something that looks representative of what they want to do; maybe not close to final visuals but a concept at least.

I mean they even have the woman from Outset Island right between Tetra and Link in one of the screenshots. Usually if they have a random NPC placed somewhere, where in the original they were elsewhere, it gives you the hint that it's from a testing session of sorts. Like a testing level... or debug level.

What? You don't like that clouds cast shadows? You know clouds actually do cast shadows, right? That's a thing... in real life.

I know it is a real thing, but it looks weird. WW never had clouds with shadows over the ocean like in the screenshots released. It just looks awkward to have such hard shadows over the water... I don't know. I could get used to it but by how it looks right now it'd really bother me.

If they make the shadows cast over the water a lighter opacity I would be fine with it.

As of now though, it just bothers me, lol. The cloud shadows casting over the landscape, however, look really, really good to me. They just need to work out the bloom and the lighting. Everything would be set then for me.

I want to see a different area.

Show me Link on top of the Forsaken Fortress fighting the bird boss and I'll tell you whether I like this game's look or not.

(I also just really want to see it.)

I can see what you mean about them looking too dark/hard... it does look unusual, but I think that's the HDR lighting. It's a still screenshot, there are likely to be iris adjustment effects which will mean that in motion you're barely going to notice stuff like that.

Love this shot. It almost looks like real life plastic figures. Sure it's a bit different from Wind Waker, but an exact copy in HD, that's what Dolphin is for.

I love the fact that this seems more like a remake (think OoT 3DS) with revamped visuals and apparently other gameplay changes than your average HD Collection game. Now we'll have to pray that music gets some orchestra love.

This announcement makes me so happy.

Maybe I'll even do all the pictobox sidequest stuff this time. (I won't!)

remember when Link is Tactial espionaging that girl on the island at night and she notices him so he makes a cat noise to soothe her suspicions? What a great game...

I've been looking at them constantly like all day and my complaints are still the same. Hate the shadows of the clouds over the water, like the shadows cast over the buildings and landscape. Maybe in some places there's too much shadow (like by the infamous tree where the poor man tries to talk to you at the beginning of the game) but other than that, Windfall looks better to me if they address the issues I have with it, including the bloom.

And the problem with the cloud shadows is that they're being cast like they're 50 feet above the ground and made out of concrete with how small and dark they are.

Yes. They're too opaque over the water, IMO. When thinking about how the water looks in WW without the cloud shadows and then throwing them on there it makes me have some baddddd thoughts about how it looks. Like, thinking it might always look like the timeframe between the Greatfish storm and going to Windfall to get the bombs.

Speaking of that, weather effects... the rain will probably look AMAZING. Holy craaaaaaaaappppppp.

It looks...washed out? Oversaturated? I'm not sure. Either way it's fine, but I will only be truly interested in this if they add content to the game. Otherwise, I'll stick to playing the game through Dolphin on my PC.

My god.

Oh my god.

Best and most beautiful Zelda made even better and more beautiful???

My urge to buy a WiiU is rising rapidly! The latest I'll buy one is the day this releases.

Btw I'm sure the graphics will be tuned before it's out. It's hard to improve the perfection that is the original WW's graphics but I think with some small changes this updated version will easily be one of the prettiest games ever. I really wished the new WiiU Zelda would use this artstyle but I'll be happy even if it doesn't now that we're getting this.

I have been feeling like playing this game again, played the hell out of it back in the day. Although it was too easy everything else was just awesome. I am probably one of the few who even liked the boat aspect.

This definitely looks good, but I prefer the old cel shaded look a lot more. I feel like removing that from the game takes away a huge chunk of what made Wind Waker so memorable.

At this point we don't even know what the final version will look like though, so we'll see.

I don't care much about the upped resolution or graphics.

I want it to be a "master-quest" on both overworld and temples, things changed, with the missing temples of course and stuff that makes it worth our while for us, people who have completed the game like 15 times.

I doubt content will get added. There is a big difference between brushing up visuals and actually designing new content.

What if that content was almost finished, but left out of the original game regardless due to time constraints? Because from what I know, that was the case with the two missing dungeons.

then I don't care for it. I mean even Iwata apolozied because it was rushed and incomplete, if they won't add the missing stuff then what is the goddamned point of this game???

worst remake ever if that's the case
