Has Nintendo Convinced You to Buy a Wii U Yet?

Bagged my WiiU yesterday.

Gonna sell it.

No fucking release dates. Unbelievable.

Yeah I am surprised people suddenly think the WiiU is more appealing when none of these game shad any release dates. I mean come on guys you surely knew that Nintendo was going to bring a SSB, Mario, Zelda etc to WiiU the question is simply when. There were some surprise though such as Fire Emblem x SMT.

I think Nintendo was clearly worried at the Wii U sales and the fact next gen is going to announced soon but I fear they may have played their cards a bit early. Would people still remember all these titles after both the PS4 and 720 are announced when considering which console to buy?

Ok. So I know I'll get crap for this but I feel that it is true. I first of all I originally wanted a Wii U just for Monster Hunter. I but after seeing the announcements, I want it for the new Xenoblade rpg. I feel Xenoblade should have more people's interest rather than Mario and Legend of Zelda. To me they are the same game made over and over again and Nintendo needs to put those franchises to rest for a long while and focus on new IPs. Mario and Zelda are just call of duty with brighter colors and puzzles.

so motherfucking true. the motherfucking tureness of that should blind Iwata and make him retire to a grotto somewhere.

holy jeez. not a fucking single release date. Not a fucking one. All I have is ports of games I've completed on previous gen systems. a Mario 2D.

PG games?? fuck yeah. W101 is summer? fall? winter?
and Bayo 2 is 2014 for sure.

MK? right, well I'm a little burned on that.

Mario 3D, that...hummm should be excellent.

I'll buy a WiiU when I have confirmed dates for Mario 3D and Bayo 2 and will play W101 in the meantime.

until then, fuck you Nintendo.

And don't get me started on Zelda...a 2015 at best game... :-((((

Lack luster online system, and jumping on the HD remake bandwagon and just relying on 1st party exclusives is what gave M$ the chance to jump in on Sony. Nintendo is gonna be hurting if they don't do a major rethink on their strategy. Do you really think this console willlast 5-7 years with this plan when we have heard rumors of M$ and Sony and the growth we saw with then on this gen?

Why would anyone be convinced by games that have not come out yet? It's such a silly position to have, in my opinion.

Yeah, it doesn't make any more sense to me than buying a PS3 specifically for Versus or TLG. I tend to value consoles for already released games. I consider whatever comes afterward as a bonus.
So yes, I'm rarely an early adopter.

lots of talented developers behind the games. you can see people lining up for the ps4 on the premise that naughty dog will deliver something amazing and they haven't revealed a single polygon.

Bought my Wii U on launch day... I'm patient. The games will come and if it gathers some dust here and there for a while, that's fine with me. I'll be playing Pikmin 3, LEGO City Undercover and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate soon enough to tide me over.

I'm really excited about the new games shown, and some of the teases. Even with this excitement, It's wait and see for me. Hopefully Nintendo changes my mind before I'm too busy with the next Xbox, and PS.

These kind of posts make me laugh.

'no release dates were given'

Will you be saying that when Sony coughs up a Gran Turismo target render and sticks a TBA on the release schedule? People wanted to know what was in the pipeline and Nintendo told us.

Errrr Yes.

I am not going to just buy a next gen console because it has some games that will excite me in the future....its needs to have games in the present at the moment I am buying the console. The wait for GT5 was painful to say the least and if that happens with GT6 I will not be buying a PS4 as soon as GT6 is announced but only if a release date is given and its nearby.

People also wanted to know when these goods in the pipeline will be delivered.

Nintendo releasing their own great games was never the problem. It's everything else that is, and I mean everything.

The pipeline looks great, I'm excited for the pipeline, but pipeline's don't sell consoles, games on shelves sell consoles. Now Wii U might not be doing too bad for games right now, but in the current climate, not doing too bad isn't good enough for Nintendo. They need to be knocking it out of the park this year.

I don't understand what release dates have to do with finding the Wii U appealing? It's simply the promise of new games on the horizon that would make me find the Wii U that much more appealing. And note that I didn't ask in the OP whether or not Nintendo convinced you to buy a Wii U now, but just in general. Meaning, that like a lot of you, I'm definitely not going to buy a Wii U at the current moment, but bide my time and wait until the eventual price drops or deal during the holiday season when Wind Waker HD as well as some other games have come out.

And remember that Nintendo still has E3, where they will further elaborate on these projects. It's not like this is a one and done announcement that will be overshadowed and forgotten in six months. Nintendo also has the advantage of releasing Nintendo Directs nearly every month following E3 which means that whatever announcements Sony and Microsoft make, they can one-up them (pun not intentional) later.

Only title they showed that I have a hint of interest in is X. Game looks promising. Other than that looksnlike every other nintendo console. Not sure why anyone would be surprised to hear that Zelda, Mario and Yoshi are coming to a nintendo console.

That said, no I haven't been convinced, one game isn't enough.

You are severely overestimating the power of these Nintendo Directs. Once Orbis/Durango get unveiled, Nintendo would have to drop a gigaton announcement to steal any hype which is why Nintendo is announcing games now to avoid the rush.

Perhaps, or maybe the announcement of Orbis/Durango will severely disappoint like Nintendo's announcement of the Wii U did. At this point we'll just have to wait and see.

Last nights Nintendo direct was the first time I actually got interested in the wii u, and my interest in getting one is much higher now. But all the games shown are so far off and right now I'm no where fullfilling my must have three games ruled or buying a system for me to get a wii u at the moment. The only game that comes close thats out right now is monster hunter tri g and honestly I'm still working though 3rd portable at the moment so I wouldn't buy it on there. plus I'm holding out for monster hunter 4. But as soon as the games shown last night get closer ill certainly pick up one. But I have to admit its hard to wait since I love getting new hardware. Plus I wish I had one now a little since I just sent my wii in for repairs and have to pay 8000 yen to fix a video problem. It's a lot but better than paying 30000 yen at the moment for a wii u. But yeah come this fall ill probably finally pick one up for sure.

Yep people were crying out to be told about these games now they have they are crying there werent rock solid dates given. Damned if they do damned if they dont.

I'll get one eventually, but I'd always get one for Smash anyway. The confirmation of a Fire Emblem title and that "X" video makes that choice easier though. It's a shame that it likely won't be my only console in the next few years though...

I'm happy Nintendo is being more open about games coming but if I go put down $350 for a Wii U there is nothing that appeals to me now.

Also everything announced so far still hasn't convinced me that the Wii U is a good investment for $350 considering that Bayo, Smash bros and maybe Monolith studios game are the ones catching my eyes vs other games announced.

I can't go out and buy those games, leaving the theoretical Wii U I buy to gather dust. So to answer the OP's question, no Nintendo has not made me consider buying a Wii U anytime soon.

A trailer with NEW or TP HD Zelda or HD Metroid would probably cause me to change my mind ASAP but until they are announced with release dates.... NOPE!

Edit: That and I'm hopeing for a price drop after Sony and Microsoft reveal their consoles. I feel that what Wii U offers is not worth paying $300-350, would rather pay $$250 for the whole or $300 plus game.

It really isn't as ridiculous a position as you might think. Improvement over the status quo doesn't automatically turn the dial from "bad" to "good." if one's concern was the 6-9 month pipeline, this really won't have assuaged them. If the concern was "I want great stuff in the next year," this probably won't help all that much (though we don't know), because there are no dates.

It's nice to have stuff to look forward to, but conceding that and lamenting that the good stuff is still a ways off isn't some "having your cake and eating it too" position.

This.

Right now there's about 2 years of really good exclusives unveiled... layer on top of that unique features like browsing while gaming, Miiverse, etc and the Wii U is quite compelling. 'X' shows that there's a ton potential under the hood.

Do people expect that there's will be a ton of firm release dates when Sony and MS announce? No - there will be big launch push, followed by a quiet quarter, with releases ramping up into the second holiday.

Thats the way it always goes.... that and the predication of death from gaf

PS3 = oh yeah.... doomed

X360 = MS revised sales forecast down the in the first year and it sold less than the original xbox for the first year. That's definitely doomed if you recall gaf back then. Can anyone tell me where 360 is now?

PSP = will never have any good games that aren't ps2 ports and its.... doomed.

PS Vita = Actually, that probably is doomed.

DS = what a stupid idea. Nintendo are doomed.

3DS = doomed due to a slow launch.

I was not at all interested in the Wii U. I won some fantasy football leagues, and decided to do something frivolous with my money for once and picked one up anyway, thinking, "Well, Nintendo has always come through in the past." And now that I own it, I completely love it and play it practically every night.

I think people who buy Nintendo products are already inclined to do so--they rely on the hallmark franchises. There will always be a place for Nintendo in the market, solely for these franchises. Can you imagine if they went 3rd party, and suddenly you were playing the next Metroid on Xbox? It wouldn't feel right. I don't think purchasers of the Wii U should delude themselves that the Wii U is a "all-in-one console solution".

To me, it's worth purchasing for the promise of these franchises, whenever they come, and I'm willing to wait. It is not going to be for everyone, and nothing Nintendo says will change that. I cannot understand why people would be willing to sell their Wii U's already--it just seems like their anger is based in unrealistic expectations.

Nope not really.
I got one on release just out of curiosity and took it back a couple of days later.
Might wait for Sony and MS then decide!

Already have one. Also lol at some people moving goalposts here. "Nintendo doesn't have anything", "so what if Nintendo showed anything, but when does it release hurr hurr", "so what if it comes out tomorrow, it's not triple A, like I would buy that", and etc. people who weren't interested at the beginning may not be persuaded now or ever for that matter. Best not to lose sleep over it.

If the Nintendo Direct would of been different and not mentioned those games in the pipeline people would of been pissed and going crazy. Now they have done so people are still pissed.

Not at all. Until I hear when more games are released and all their apps are running smoothly, there is no desire to purchase the system.

I would like to know why... when all publishers routinely delay games.. people think Nintendo announcing release dates this early would mean anything.

Sort of get the feeling even if they did people would be saying: Yeah, but they will delay them all.

NIntendo had a better Direct, with more surprises, than Sony or MS managed for their entire E3's several times this generation.

I am beginning to think all Gaf cares about at the minute is e-peen waving about decimal points in rumored next gen console specs.... I tend to think of myself as a gamer, not a custom GPU aficionado.

More than before, but I like my games with a solid (or at least entertainingly batshit) storyline and none of these games really have that.

MegaTen's the most intriguing but I've never played Fire Emblem and prefer strategy games on handhelds.
