All this does is make me want Versus that much more. I am not giving up hope that the game will still see the light of day, because Square has honestly invested too much into its development to let it die quietly.

Versus is pretty much a mainline title anyway in everything except title.
I don't see how it could be argued otherwise. It's as mainline as it gets outside of having its own unique number.
To be fair, I don't know if XIV 2.0 will be good or not. But the effort is there, and I don't see them just throwing everything Versus away.

Unfortunately I find most don't see it that way. Most see it as a spinoff, much like they observed Type 0 as a spinoff.
Versus SHOULD have more stage presence however. Since it is a console game.

Which I would argue was a phenomenal mistake, because its title alone I would suggest immediately prevents it from attain mainline FF sales. People already view it as a spinoff. People still view Type-0 as a spinoff. If they wanted the game to be viewed in the same light as a mainline numbered Final Fantasy they shouldn't have given it a spinoff sounding title. Sounds less mainline than Final Fantasy XIII-2, and that's just a travesty on their part.

One reason is Nomura's stubbornness. I've heard once he settles for a name he generally doesn't want to change it.
How about Final Fantasy Versus? Without the XIII. Might work OK.

Versus alludes the "fake" Manichaeism the setting is coated into, especially the dichotomy between Noctis and Stella, a dichotomy so strong that it turns confusing. As it stands, it's impossible to tell if they are allies, rivals, enemies or lovers; there is only room for speculation. Opposites attract, or not.

It would not make sense not doing it imho. I ask you, why not? The title could only benefit from changing name.
There's going to be a FFV remake? Was it announced recently? The only hint I could possibly see toward a FFV remake was when SE announced that FFV was coming to ios and fans speculated that it could be a 3D remake or something.

I used to be against this idea, but slowly I am coming around to it.
All except 1 has is completely plausible as a reason, lol. That's why. And the title could benefit from a name change, but not being the next numbered title.
Especially since its linked to FNC. This is more of a personal qualm though. I don't like the idea of FNC extending to the next numbered title. I'd prefer they drop it all together and end it with XIII and whatever separate name changes they have.

I really doubt Versus will be renamed XV. No way are they going to make Final Fantasy XV a game that was revealed years before Final Fantasy XIV. It's like the ultimate admission of failure.

It makes no sense for a game announced 7 years ago to come out as a spinoff to sell less than the main series with the kind of budget that game has. Versus only made sense in that whole series of games from FF13. Agito got renamed and so will Versus.
Not really. Versus uses the FNC mythos in its own way.

And I'd prefer FNC stays this gen/XIII related. Something completely new and fresh would be nice.
No thank you. Put Tabata on it. And ideally, stop giving your veterans a bad image or making it seem like they don't exist. :x I don't despise him, but I want some creative views from the other developers.

It makes a lot of sense, if only on a "saving face" level.
-Versus comes out next year or whenever, is still called Versus; gets mocked Duke Nukem Forever-style as "that game from 2007 or whenever"
-Versus comes next year or whenever as FFXV, suddenly it seems more fitting, fits in with Wada's whole "we need to get proper FF games out quicker" play, and to be quite frank Versus's approach to tone and style (from what we've seen) would probably give the series a much needed kick up the arse, a move that's much easier to accomplish if it's not got spin-off status
Plus FF games often come out at the end/just after a generation has ended. Did for the last two, anyway, if only internationally.

They are far from being as lazy as people make them transpire. They only suffer from terrible management.

Are his games so much better than Toriyama's ones? Based on my experience with Crisis Core and 3rd Birthday, I'd say definitely no. Can't say anything about Type-0 instead considering S-E doesn't want me to play it. I'd pay to have Kitase back as a director, Itou would be interesting too. Tabata could be just the next Toriyama, lots of ideas, bad executions .\
Tabata at least doesn't involve himself in the writing of his games. Crisis Core, Before Crisis and Type-0 are all fantastic titles.
Tabata's really good. Type-0 I found was a radically different game to Crisis Core (although i really liked that game). At the very least, let them experiment with him on the console front. Or PSVITA and port to PS3. I just want some creative variety and a different team. :/
I'd like that too lol. But Wada doesn't seem to think that way.

If you really like Crisis Core that much I can't find reasons for you to dislike XIII and XIII-2. And before you mention, the writing in CC is terrible too. It's also set in a corridor for the entire time and made of just battles like Toriyama's games. Same for The 3rd Birthday.
Can't comment on type-0 and BC.

I find CC slightly better in the writing and the plot, even thought the ending sucks balls. At least it makes sense, not like XIII-2 which is a mess.
And I find CC a good game, but definetly not fantastic. Same with 3rd Birthday.

3rd Birthday had his excellent Cutscene Direction and Gameplay while Toriyama mucked up the story. Crisis Core experimented with a new combat system which is built upon in Type 0.
Furthermore Toriyama had presence in Crisis Core and Tabata had little control with the story, Type 0 is his first full on real project and it exceeded expectations.
And if I recall correctly, despite being a phone game Before Crisis was quite well received. And expands on the world of FFVII, which illustrates the previous and original AVALANCHE terrorist group.
Not even going to touch on the comparison in gameplay standards between hand-held and console games. Keep it to their writers like I did.

Just think, even if they call it FF XV the 'V' can double up to still mean versus.
I really think it's in SE's best interest to distance themselves from the XIII name. I can't imagine Lightning Returns doing well outside of Japan at all and that would just hurt the brand name more. Not to mention XIV ARR still has to be released which could go either way.
Just call it XV and be done with it.
