Can't remember the last time I paid full price for a game (coming from PC side) but this will be bought day 1. If they decide on a PC version, consider this double-dipped.

With that being said, how do you get an S rank? I've gone rounds where I went undamaged, killing the guys under 20secs, taking all their blue shit with crazy combos...and the best I get is an "A" ;(

This is the first Platinum game that clicked with me, playing the demo so much. Wish you could unlock hard difficulty because normal isn't cutting it anymore(lol). And is it me or does the combat feel slightly automatic? The palm strike is a combination attack but sometimes it happens itself in combos without directional input. I guess it would make sense because demos are meant to be easy. Still I thoroughly love the feel of the game and I got parrying down pretty damn good.

I don't think I will ever get an 'S' becuse I don't like going overboard in blade mode, prefer one neat cut to get the spine. Now that is satisfying instead of spamming.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Dunno if most people have tried this, but the Select Codec has a TON of codec calls just in the demo. All different little running conversations and reactions to bosses and stuff! Just like the Metal Gear of old. Shit is awesome.

DMC2 dante looks the best. *runs*

I aint gonna lie, I was fooled by the trailer

no emotion Dante is depressing

I think there are 2 ways to activate the palm strike

It's bullshit that the Steelbook is exclusive to GAME and the LE is exclusive to Zavvi. EU gets fucked both ways.

Lol so sensitive today

Just watching people playing it and getting hyped for final release has him really grinding his teeth away. Jett has been on top form too ever since JP trod on his balls the other day :lol

I don't care about that. I'm talking about mech design. I mean I don't think anyone from vanquish or any other metal gear could have designed that mess.

I do love that it almost entirely has a transplanted Ninja Gaiden stage there.

All the other old gods may have gone senile or died, but all new incarnations can be found at Platinum.

Maybe if they're using a slipcover or something. Which doesn't really make sense anyway.

Well, I'm getting it regardless, so I guess it doesn't really matter. Just thought it was odd.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I only just realized that there were face reflections is Raiden's blade.

Pressing attack buttons and not being super sure what animation Raiden will do is a bit disconcerting, and through subsequent playthroughs I've been pressing fewer and fewer buttons. Essentially being able to just swing away indefinitely and then automatically getting a blade mode prompt at some point does feel a bit disappointing. I think this game was designed with non-action gamers in mind, and seeing how much trouble people have been having with stuff that's pretty straightfoward for the initiated, I suppose that's just how it is. The final game might be a "Hard is Normal" situation with the difficulty settings, but I trust PG to design the difficulty from the top down.

I like how his feet dance a little circle. The animation in this game is top-notch, even Raiden's movements in blade mode look great.

The theory of sub weapons being implemented as strong attacks is gaining force.
Hmm... The "upgrade persistence" that supposedly occurs with other weapons would make sense with that, too, assuming attacks like the stinger and dive kick are upgrades. Their mobility is integral to combat, so those would have to transfer over in some shape or another. And many of the combo strings Raiden has utilize strong attack button combinations, so that is also consistent with the talk of other weapons having unique combos.

ahaha good eye.

Someone said that choosing one of those weapons changes your hard attack. Wide attack is always done with the blade, it seems. I don't think you can change weapons mid-combat, yo have to go to the sub-menu.

Makes sense really.

You kinda have to have access to the sword for Zandatsu so they couldn't replace everything

Would make something like the wooden sword a little disappointing though

And in ninja run, wide attack is just sword slashing, while strong attack is the slide that doesn't use a weapon at all... :)

Maybe after you beat a boss you get their weapon (or a variation thereof)
Makes sense to me.

There's an achievement for
cutting off the left arms of all bosses
I think

So I'm guessing Doktor makes their weapons and sells them to you from that

"Throughout the game, you bump into many bosses, and these bosses have very unique weapons and different kinds of styles and different attack methods," Korekado said. "Now these weapons, as you attack the bosses and move forward, you can buy these weapons from the doctor and use them as your own."

Korekado says the upgrades allow players to define their own play style by deciding which weapons to use and upgrade.

Mistral will have linked arms and Monsoon obviously has has sais. I guess Sundowner's will be that thick blade. So it'll probably operate as Raiden's heavy weapon.

That gif unfortunately also demonstrates the automation that is built into the game(that little hop at the beginning is automatic, along with how it homes into the enemy). What's the deal with that, Platinum.

In the gif, you can also see that Raiden's FC bar is red and flashing with lightning. It looks like it's indicating that he's ready to go into the berserk mode shown in that recent Gamespot trailer and, presumably, the DLC skin one when Gray Fox is ripping through enemies.

I wonder how we activate it. Maybe tapping the blade mode button?

The automation is weird for the genre, but I think it'll help more than hurt. It's the same deal with the extreme amount of homing the dive kick has (maybe we'll see a lot of air targets?). It's something players will eventually get used to, and it seems like it's meant to keep the action going. In crowds, you will be hopping from one enemy to the other, so streamlining the process of getting to them without being forced to stinger/dive kick/slide your way to each one seems like a reasonable compromise, especially when parries are involved. There's also probably a reason why ninja running over stunned enemies only works right when you begin the run, not when it's sustained. Some things are really hard to extrapolate from the demo, so it's understandable to be confused by developer intent at this point.

Tbh, the camera going crazy with soft/hard lock-on in tiny areas and screwing up your parries is what I'm most worried about.

edit:
L3+R3 would be my guess. It's the rage button du jour.
Meh. I didn't mind that in GoW, but the camera was fixed. R3 is camera reset, so...barf. At least with L3+R3, there's the chance that we will be able to cancel out of it if we need to. I wanted that option for near-death AR mode in Vanquish, but it didn't exist.

I'm guessing it's to compensate for the lack of movement options Raiden seems to have in comparison to games like DMC and Bayo where you got teleports, air dashes, panther mode and whip/devil bringer etc
Yeah, read my mind. :p

I tend to dislike it as well in games, but I don't think it's that bad here

Since unlike games like Arkham it isn't random. The move you get depends on positioning in relation to the target.(I.E at that distance Raiden will always hop forward to meet the enemy, where as if you shift focus to an enemy behind raiden he'll always do the under-the-shoulder backwards stab)

I'm guessing it's to compensate for the lack of movement options Raiden seems to have in comparison to games like DMC and Bayo where you got teleports, air dashes, panther mode and whip/devil bringer etc

So lights have a little more utility for positioning than other games. but idk maybe it's just like that to make it easier for non action game players to do those things by having one button do every thing.(this is for Metal Gear fans as well)

It's probably because of the string he's doing. Besides, he homes into the enemy, because he's locked onto him...
