Ni No Kuni Collector's Edition for EU/NA [failure level well beyond critical mass]

I was so glad when they announced the Wizard's Edition. I knew they were going to bring it over somehow and I'm grateful that they did. Though now that everyone seems to want it, I'm not sure if they expected such demand in the first place... better to play it safe and have done it this Wizard's Edition route imo than end up with too many books lying around. (see: Japan and the DS Ni no Kuni)

One question for any EU gaffers: I ordered the Wizards Edition from GAME so does that also entitle me to the pre-order book promised to people who pre-ordered the normal edition? Slightly confused by the wording on GAME's website.

@dark_preacher: I'm insanely jealous right now.

Not in EU, but I believe it was only listed on the regular edition listing.

Terms and Conditions: UK ONLY. Limited Offer while stocks last. Customers who have already preordered this product will also receive the bonus item. Your 300 page Hardcover Wizard's companion book, in Japanese, will be delivered with your preorder. Offer is only valid against mint boxed copies of the game and not the download or preowned version. This offer is exclusive to Game Retail Limited.

I thought the Japanese one smelled particularly lovely as well... if you like the smell of books. Not sure how the English one is though.

They both have that book smell yeah but I'll be honest the whole book/manual sniffing fetish everyone else seems to have makes no sense to me. I just plain don't get it.

original story -- Well I'm not sure what's going on with my order. I was an August ninostarter order and my order was cancelled. I called in multiple times on jan 23 as I kept ordering through reps over the phone and then immediately getting cancellation notices. I've had absolutely no updates since, but my account has been charged three seperated times. Not sure what to think. --

here's the story of how this came to be for anyone that is curious. they kept sending me cancellation notices but somehow all 3 orders went through. i was in the same boat as everyone else until someone told me to track by reference number and i saw all three of them were coming sometime yesterday or this morning.

don't hold me to it, but i may sell one at crazy ebay prices, keep one, and try to do something super awesome for gaf with the third one.

So, the differences in regular and WE versions of the game case. Also, each version has different artwork on the disc, as previously mentioned.

Regular:

White boxart with logo
25-page B/W multilingual manual
B/W reverse boxart
Dual language rating/back of box
Normal UPC

WE:

Tan-ish boxart with logo
33-page color English-only manual
Color reverse boxart
Single language, English rating/back of box
UPC is all 0, Not for Resale
Single PSN code for Golden Mite/Drongo

Both of mine arrived today! No problems while being shipped, my box is absolutely mint.

Hang on to them for a bit in case they figure it out and charge you. Or, if you do get some sBay scratch, it will still pay for them. If you can hook up a GAFfer that'd be pretty awesome.

wow, we really do have the superior version.

This full color manual... it's glorious. I'm not sure what I love more, the book or the manual.

Yeah, too many companies just don't give a damn when it comes to the manual anymore.

Look at EA, it's all digital, the new DmC, no manual either. It's rare when you get a manual, let alone a beautiful color one. (Warriors Orochi 3 had a sexy color manual too. <3)

Really want to grab the hardcover guide for the game but don't plan on spending 40 dollars for it. How does Best Buy price matching work? I believe I saw someone way back in the thread mention it. Will they match amazon, 21 dollars is a wonderful price!

I was really sad when Resident Evil 6 didn't have a manual. For one the game needed it given it doesn't explain any of Its systems but mostly because Dragon's Dogma had a wonderful one. Suppose Capcom has abandoned them too now. Think Alice: Madness Returns was the first game I bought that didn't have a manual. Only that horrible black and white doubled sided safety information card.

I was able to get BB to price match Amazon for me. They said they would have charge shipping as well but they didn't.

ShopTo: "Sorry, this product requires courier delivery which is not currently available in your country." (New Zealand)

Doh, was looking forward to abandoning Fishpond :/

Huh? US version I assume? Euro/Australian version came with a manual.

Yeah, now that you mention it I remember seeing the Japanese version got a rather hefty manual as well. I guess Capcom US is just cheap. I remember being particularly disappointed because I got the 90 dollar anthology version which had the psn copies of every game except Code Veronica. Good deal but at that price I expected a half decent manual, not a safety information card :/

I'm trying to keep myself from spending $350 for a US WE.

This thread is not helping.

I hate DR so much right now.

I still have an order alive there. Courier is 50-60 GBP. Too expensive for most.

OMG the hardcover guide is for $55 now !
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/030789598X/?tag=neogaf0e-20

ordered one for my friend yesterday for $23.52 !!!

now for me, let's hope they will send me my free hardcover guide in place of the dilemma of cancelling my order or i'd be super angry

I ordered mine when someone posted the link days ago and it said they wouldn't have stock until the 30th and Mine wouldn't arrive until the 4th of February. But mine got shipped today and will arrive tomorrow. Hah.

Decided to put the guide back I had in my hands at gamestop because it was cheaper on amazon. So I go to order today and its 50$ fuckk. Anyway to get a notification when they are back in stock

$50 is the third party price. The Amazon price I see when it's in-stock is $21.99. Just so you know.

My WE came in today and I have to say, I'm impressed. Even the box, which I was planning to throw away, had a quality feel to it and I'm probably going to end up keeping it, despite the large dent in the back-left corner from shipping. The art prints are on a wonderfully textured stock and even the coin is larger and heavier than I was expecting. The music CD does have me a bit mystified though. As long as they're pressing a CD anyway, the inclusion of more tracks shouldn't have cost anything to add more, so it's odd that there's only 2 on it. But hey, I ordered it for the Wizards's Companion, so anything else is all gravy to me.

Speaking of the Wizard's Companion...WOW! It blew me away! I was expecting a spell list and beastiary; I was not expecting a 100% in-'character' guide with lore, maps, and goddamned short stories! I'm sorry to pour salt on wounds, but this thing is amazing. I paid my $110-ish for this, and I am not disappointed. Even though there's an electronic copy in the game itself, just having it in physical form is just so incredibly immersive (and that's the first time I've ever used that word). Namco really needs to set up a print on demand thing for this; everyone should have one!

Oh, and is it just me, or does plush!Drippy feel like he needs a hat?

Another reason I'm so glad to have the WE. Has there been any other game where the gulf between the regular and special edition was so huge?

The CD was something they added at the last minute, and since they sell the OST in Japan, I wonder if this was just to give us a taste to make us want to buy it.... either through Japan or through an iTunes release, or something. The OST is only 21 tracks, in any case, so we got almost 10% of here.
