Holy shit. That is fantastic.

If you like that, the reward for getting all 60 emblems is equally awesome... <- Don't click if you don't want to know!

Also, I'm wondering... why did they make it so one of Carmelita's best upgrades
(super jump)
is only available for purchase after all of her missions are done? It seems kind of useless.

I'm glad that fans are appeased.

I've never played a Sly game before this (well, just the first level of Sly 1, really), but I am having an absolute blast with this.

Some people have been knocking the game for its minigames, but I think they're a great way to provide variety. The game just has so much variety, that I can't put it down. I know that every mission or task ahead of me will be different enough to keep me playing.

And there are so many laugh out loud moments, too! The voice acting, the writing, it's all there. Kevin Miller said it in the latest podcast from second funniest podcast: Sly should be an animated cartoon as well.

This could very well end up being one of my favorite games of this generation.

Exactly! If I had to just play as Sly this entire game I'd honestly just get kind of bored probably. The minigames and characters add a lot variety. It reminds me of GTA San Andreas where every new mission felt fresh and like I was going to try something new and fun.

The game is awesome.

Really surprised by how much the graphical engine was tuned down for the vita version, especially the complete removal of cel shading on the characters. Suppose I'll be playing it on the PS3 for sure and just ignoring the vita copy that comes with it. Wonder if it was just a rush port or if the vita really couldn't handle any of the effects.

Hoping to get it sometime next week, big fan of the series (platinumed the HD trilogy) but with the 1, 2, 3 punch of Fire Emblem, Dead Space 3, and Alien Colonial Marines I'm a bit short on gaming funds at the moment. And yes, I certainly should have gotten Sly before ACM at the least but a friend is loaning me the money for it to play coop.

Is the game as long as Sly 3 was?

If you're just doing the main story, it's probably a little bit shorter.

But including unlockables (bottles, masks, playing the arcade machines, etc.) it seems a lot longer to me.

Every time I see a shiny pocket, I want to pick it. I think I have a problem.

I have that problem + anytime I see a clue bottle, I have to go for it. Period. It's like how the shards in inFAMOUS had me hooked. Screw the mission, I NEEDED THOSE SHARDS. Same instance here, I NEED THOSE BOTTLES.

Great: The game is a lot of fun and up there with the original Sly games. Plus it helps that this sort of game just doesn't get made anymore.

Good: Carmelita is a great character and I love how hyper competent she (still) is.

Bad: Game's a tad bit racist. Especially The Grizz.

I finished this today. I think it is the best Sly game and one of my favorite games this gen. There are some things I think other Sly games do better (1 has better platforming, 2 has the heists which aren't as prominent here for instance), but this is the best overall package I think by a good bit. I will try and write out more tomorrow, but I had a total blast. I hope it does well. Sanzaru and this game deserve great sales. It was wonderful.

I am so happy I bought this game. For the past year I've felt some staleness in the games I played. I bought a couple of them thinking I would find something that would thrill me again, that would kept me hooked and carved a smile on my face, but i would get bored after some days of playing.

But Sly has kept me hooked since yesterday, after I bought and installed it in both my PS3 and Vita. I haven't left the game after that. At it is pretty genius to give both version when buying for the PS3. I had to attend an appointment early today so I just took my Vita, downloaded the save file from the cloud and kept on going.

Btw, I've read some complains in several reviews stating that this game feels exactly the same as prevous game, but I'm so glad Sanzaru kept the same feeling from PS2 Sly games. I feel the same excitement i felt when I played them several years ago.

Sanzaru, congrats on this game! You guys did a wonderful job! And thank you for the hard work you put on this game.

I have no idea what problem people had with the boxing minigame. All of Murray's minigames have been easy as piss and with the boxing one you just mash square and win in like 2 minutes. I did it on my first try >_>

Same here.

This is the first game I've bought in over a year where I didn't get fatigued halfway through. The variety keeps me coming back. I might actually finish this.

yeah it's definitely a little insensitive. at least Rioichi doesn't say l like r or anything.

He said a few "l" words with "r" pronunciation (Benterii-san). That's not racist, that's just how some native Japanese speakers pronounce the "l" when speaking English. It's not like they were teasing it.

I don't think anything is purposefully offensively racist in this game, they just like going with cultural stereotypes/archetypes.

I don't think it's racist that they gave Tennessee a Texas-twang with overbearing jokes, and I don't think it's racist that they gave Riochi a thick, Japanese accent complete with proverb interjections.

I've always found the stereotypes used in these games to be charming and innocuous. It always seemed like Sucker Punch, and now Sanzaru, are just trying make the worlds and their environments feel distinctive, rather than to make fun or demean the places/people they're inspired by.

Also, the ultimate costumes are awesome. Is Bently's based on
Judge Dredd
?

Some quick impressions after having cleared most of Japan/Episode 1. Huge fan of the original Sly game. I don't hate 2 or 3, but I didn't care for the direction they went in. Not a big fan of the GTA-style shit. I guess some of this stuff is a bit spoiler-ish, I don't know?

+Game seems like a nice balance between all three Sly games. There's definitely A LOT of Sly gaming going on in here. The ancestor stuff is welcome too because it's essentially just more good old regular Sly Cooper levels.

+Love how the timed/bomb treasures from Sly 2 are archived in a collection screen now. Hated how in Sly 2 those things were such throwaways. This game definitely has a lot more fun things to do/track down than what Sly 2/3 had to offer.

+Costume idea is pretty cool! Loved reflecting back fireballs with the Samurai costume! Any game with a volley mechanic is good in my books! There looks to be some backtracking with the costumes too for secrets which is always welcome.

+/-Some of the Bentley mini-game stuff is pretty whatever, but the electricity ball thing was actually kind of fun. There's been as much Bentley mini-game nonsense as there was in Sly 2 and 3 so far.

+The one Murray mission I did was kind of fun. The fishing scenario wasn't too bad. Hopefully, I see more missions like this and less/no RC copter crap.

+/-Traditional platforming/Sly stages are still fairly well designed, but they seem a bit amateurish, at times. You can definitely see the difference between Sanazu and Suker Punch here. Stage design hazards/gimmicks (like the fire breathing dragon heads) are a bit overused and poorly placed. It would have been nice to get some feedback on that armor too from the fire hitting it. =/

-Murray dance game went on FAR too long. This was handled a bit better in the first game, although I'm not really a fan of this Guitar Hero button meter shit anymore.

Finished Episode 2. This is an ok, lighthearted little game but a lot of times it's not really that fun to play. It seems to be a little more platforming focused than 2 and 3 but the problem with that is the game has auto platforming so it's not fun to do. If they do get to make another one I hope they let Sanzaru take away the auto jumping for most types of platforming in these games. It's not necessary for most things and it's not like the Sly gameplay is some sacred cow so they could probably get away with it with little complaints.

Auto platforming? In Sly? When did that happen?

EDIT: Oh, you mean the circle "stand" points you jump to? I see what you're saying. Nevermind.

Well not auto like Uncharted or Assassin's Creed, but it's almost the same thing. Most things you have to jump to have that blue sparkly stuff where you can be anywhere near it and press O and you fly right to it like you're caught in a tractor beam. There have been times in this game when I jumped and waited until I was under the target and still teleported to it when I hit O. It erases a huge amount of the potential challenge in the game.

People who have played this: Is this game more along the lines of Sly 1, or Sly 2 & 3?

Or is it a big combination of all three?

From what I've seen and played, the best way to describe is that it's a perfect mix/balance of all three games with a significant edge towards Sly-like levels. There's still a bunch of GTA-style Sly 2/3 garbage in here, but it's not ultra offensive, yet...Gotta play more.

Okay, anyone got all the treasures in world 3? If so, please name the treasure in the bottom left-hand corner of the treasure shelf is and, if you remember, where you found it.

I have half a mind to assume the game is glitched there.

I think sometimes you need future costumes to get some secret stuff. I saw some crates in the first hub world that need the costume you get in the second hub world to break.

There is a treasure in the first world that needs the 5th world costume to get. So yeah, just assume you won't be getting all the treasure till end game.

I have all the costumes, I just can't for the life of me find that last treasure in that world. I've gotten all the bottles in worlds 1-4 and all the treasures in worlds 1 and 2.

Treasures only sparkle, right? I really wish they made sound; I feel as if I'm being driven mad, running in circles.

The game is really pretty though; as a console gamer, the (for the most part) 60 FPS gameplay and vibrant visuals really adds to the game, even when I'm looking for this damned treasure.

For the extras!

Oh, well I wouldn't call that backtracking, since those can be obtained in the first playthrough theoretically, and aren't necessary to beat the game.

Well I guess not with the ones that need costumes. But those still aren't required to beat the game.

This game could have used a lot more optimization time too. It seems like each episode gets choppier than the last. 3 can't maintain the 60fps at all.

World 3 is definitely the one that has a tough time running at 60fps. It's pretty damn choppy, but the area looks nice... thankfully, World 4 seems to run much better than 3.

They have a kind of twinkly sound when you're near them, like a stock "magical" sound effect.

There's one treasure that's on top of the (location spoiler)
T-Rex skeleton that can be accessed by paragliding on one of the air geysers; is it that one?

Except for taking it away would make it even more like Uncharted or Assassin's Creed.

The only way to make the games legitimately challenging would to bring back the one-hit-kill.

Enjoying the game, but it's a bummer that turning on 3D brings down the frame rate considerably. It's still smooth but not 60 fps.
