Final Fantasy Tactics coming to Android with enhanced graphics

You could bypass the load times by loading the UMD data onto the PSP. This is perfectly legal and it made it run nice and smooth.

Had the PSN version so it was already on the SD, load times were still too long.

They need to completely remake this game like Tactics Ogre.

I'd be nice to have an updated version playable on PS3.

I own it on PSP and I can't play something that methodical for that long.

4Gamer has a better image of the Ramza before and after sprite comparison:

By the way, for people still wondering about the iOS version, we've known about this for a while now, via the game's current description:
The following updates are planned in order to further improve your enjoyment:
- Higher resolution unit character graphics.
- Added ability to fast-forward battle scenes.

Everyone should buy this for one simple reason: It will show Square the Matsuno's quality still sells. Which increases the chance that maybe he'll make another Ivalice game.

Wait, the iOS and this has the slowdown?

The iOS version does although I think how much varies per device, we don't know about the Android version since there's no media or well, anything about it yet, unless someone here buys it from the Square Enix Market. Presumably it doesn't. Hopefully. If it doesn't then that probably means the soon-to-be-updated iOS version will have it removed.

I love this game but seriously... they've given up no? Just rehashing shit on mobile to make some cashhh.

does this mean its OUYA + shield compatible?

Just take a moment and think about how good a game like this could look nowadays. For anyone who plays Dota 2 you can probably imagine how it would look. Not just vastly improved textures and graphics, but the amazing animations and visuals for spells and attacks. We will probably never see anything close to that.

Mobile games give the biggest moneymaker returns for effort right now.

It'd be bad business to NOT ride this wave.

Is it really bad for a company to make money?

Sadly it don't work like that, SE don't give a shit what their fans want :p

Riding the wave is a good way of putting it and a sound business strategy. Mobile gaming is not a platform to tie your future to. There are companies out there who somehow think this most unloyal and flighty customer base can be depended on and they have switched their entire structure around this customer base.

You realize the slowdown issue was fixed on the PSP WotL version, right?

Was it? Through a patch that came later or what? I bought the game when it came out, was absolutely shocked by the slowdown and sold it again.

Then I got the iPad version (iPad 3) and a buddy of mine got the iPhone version and I swear the slowdown issues were even worse. Unplayable for me.

This is likely why S-E only makes cheap spinoffs and remakes on the mobile phone networks. Low investment, high returns.

The HIGH investment games need to have the flash and pizazz and quality to make REALLY high returns, so they're using consoles and mmoprgs for their top talent.

It was fixed, but not officially. If you have a PSP with custom firmware, you could install the FFHacktics patch that fixes it.

The IOS version also had an official patch that fixed the slowdown (though some people still say it's still not fast enough).

Hi. I'm Shiina.

An assistant producer of Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions(iPhone ver).

Let me deeply apologise.

We couldn't release FFT:WoL(iPhone) in June and Spring has been over.

I'm really sorry.

One of my favorite PS1 games (that I still own) coming to Android is definitely tempting to play on the go. I question if it would run well on my phone though, (Thunderbolt) but if it does I would have no problem double dipping on the game. The upped sprites look good.

Thunderbolt is a single core 1ghz, so it may run a bit sluggish. I'd go dual core at minimum.

At first I was extremely excited, but then I remembered Square's history with ports.

Ah well, I still have my PSX copy.

This looks good, but I'm a little worried. I have a Nexus 7 and I got FF Dimensions with some left over money and the music popped constantly. Months later and there's still no fix. It seems to be a device specific bug. I'm worried FFT's sound will be busted too.

Dimensions is a technical mess on any Android device from what I've seen.

There are some easy tricks to fix the slowdown on iOS. Plus the iPad 3 is the weakest iPad next to the 1

This, I can't play it on my tablet cause of the black screen during battle encounters which hasn't been fixed.

I guess making games on Android is challenging due to all the different hardware/software versions though, which is probably why SE has stayed away from the platform for so long.

I tried this on PSP and it was too hard. I kept dying on the 5th mission or something :/ the one where you start next to lots of elevation

I'd love to give this a shot again but.... yeah.

Dorter: Trade City

I grinded back and forth across Mandalia Plains to prepare for that map.

Regarding that PSP patch, it only works with the ISO, right? Not the UMD? I didn't mind the slow-downs that much (those saying it's "unplayable", come on, what a bunch of babies... ) but it'd be nice to fix them.

I'm sure the Android version will be overpriced, and I am loathe to give Squeenix any money, but FFT is one of my all-time favourites, I might just triple-dip on that one... >_>
