Destructoid: PS4 controller prototype & devkit photo, [Up: New Photo/Info In OP]

While i'd love to say I dislike it - I can't know for sure until I get it in my hands.

I do like the curves tho, not as angular. Im guessing just a prototype but I expect the final to be extremely similar.

vita d-pad
i hope that is what they used.

It looks just like it. The normal d-pad has some space in between the buttons while the vita d-pad has them much closer. Obviously not something we can tell until we feel it in our own hands but it looks like it is similar to the vita d-pad which is a good thing. It's the best d-pad I've ever used.

i really just dont understand a touch pad that small?

what else can you do on it other than just replace physical start/select buttons?

I'm not sure why you couldn't use this for aiming and firing if it's clickable... Or any kind of cursor based control paradigm. If it works well for that I'd default to using it instead of a right analog.

so bulky though lol

I like it a lot. D-Pad looks good and looks like you can place your thumbs easily on the sticks. It also looks a lot sturdier than the DS3.

Someone should put prototype in the OP or title or something. It seems like some people think this is final, It doesn't even say Sony on the controller.

Fantastic! Vita Dpad = Godly. Love how the new analogs look too

Is that a touch pad or screen? :S

That blue light: Move like function? What can this be used for in a dualshock tho

Built in speaker/mic? Win

Things are getting quite juicy now, aren't they? Tears, fears, and joy will likely accompany the PS4 unveiling.

Pretty much what I was expecting. Its a bit bigger with better sticks. I like it so far, can't wait to see the final.

Well as long as MS doesn't stray too far from the 360 design it looks like they will have the best controller for next gen.

That controller is ugly and looks way too bulky.

I like it.

Hopefully the material is as as soft as it looks and not the shiny plastic we get currently with DS controllers, maybe it is the photo and it is more matte than it looks. The analogs look like they couldn't decided between concave or convex so did a bit of both, I am personally fine with the placement.

Looks chunkier too and a little more rounded in places, so hopefully more ergonomic, and I really hope that D-Pad is the same as the Vita one, it looks pretty much the same but you never know. I think it looks chunkier and bigger in the photo than it actually is, looking at the DS3 and the button placements and size it doesn't look much different in size.

All and all, could be a great evolution of the DS1/2/3 design with some extra flavour, can't wait.

Fucking this, i´ve been thinking in this kind of design forever, forget about headsets, who needs them...is just too obvious actually, i don´t get why nobody made something like this before

Nintendid.

That blue light: Move like function? What can this be used for in a dualshock tho

Anything you want that doesn't involve swinging it like a sports implement It also replaces the user I/D lights and will give each player a different colour.

Then you'll have to mix game and voice sounds which will compromise both.

Maybe it can be directional-ish.

This cannot even be close to the final design, I refuse to even thinking about that idea. Looks terrible. Also I really cannot imagine what will they use that screen for.

As far as I'm concerned Sony had some "important" prototypes and they were on the fence on which one would represent the "real thing"

This is not the one I've been told off.

don't know anything else don't kill me.

Well since the cat's out of the bag, I'll say that the Start and Select buttons are on the sides of the touchpad. And yes the touchpad is clickable.

well hello, and you are? C'mon, just a hint.....

Looks ugly, but I'm more interested in the feels.

I bet you said that about all your late night hook-ups in school...

Left stick still in the wrong position... Very disappointed.

No, it's fine just where it is thank you....

I'm happy with the sticks. I really like the 360's positioning more, BUT it is not a big deal for me that the sticks are where they are, what is a big deal is that they look farther apart which is awesome, because my thumbs won't smash into each other if I run right and aim left.

Maybe its not a speaker but a microphone?

Now everyone with a ps4 has a mic!!!

I can hear the controllers being gripped as we speak!

Big news here if that's the actual PS4 devkit (you know, for collecting purposes).

And goddamn, some people here need to recognize what's a prototype and what isn't. With that said, I don't see a big advatage to put a touchpad on there because of the thumb's ratio, but I do hope I'm wrong.

Dont get why people hate the analogue sticks, they look improved for better grip and handling for FPS games with that round edge as opposed to nothing.
