Destructoid: PS4 controller prototype & devkit photo, [Up: New Photo/Info In OP]

The glowing bar on the controller works better than the move wand because the camera can detect the shape, and can see which way it's tilted, while still getting all of the other data from gyros that it did from the wand.

Should've gone the way of the Vita. So classy and beautiful

Agreed, those Vita buttons are gorgeous.

Even better from this angle. Far more ergonomic looking! Big improvement over the DS3 imo, what looks to be slightly longer palm handles too.

original.jpg

Yes!

Like:
1. basic Dualshock shape with improved grips
2. Vita d-pad + DS face buttons
3. correct button/stick layout
4. convex/concave compromise
5. headphone jack

Dislike:
1. speaker(?) <- waste of space, unless that is a mic
2. select/start <- would prefer them merged with the touchpad (allowing for bigger pad size)

Light bar + dual camera is obviously Move 2.0.

lol agreed ^^

Concave sticks and larger, makes me wonder why they moved away from the original DualAnalog design, as it had both things.

From what I remember they released the concave DS in Japan found out users didn't like it and changed it for the US release. But my memory sucks and I think I remember reading that in a PSM back in the 90's.... Those guys had dope ass Parappa beanies.

I'm not too sure. It's just the controller, and a prototype at that so I don't see this having massive reprocussions.

I'm really only asking because I remember last year when the updated version of the Wii U Gamepad got leaked and the guy got fired and I think sent to court?

I kicked up the contrast a bit so that you can see a bit more detail.

So judging from this image, the R2 and L2 buttons are either the same as in the DS3 or they are like the ones in the Move controller (the one to the left):

And we have another button on top. Just a guess.

I'm 50/50 on the whole convex/concave argument. Concave definitely feels better, but the convex offers much more precision imo.

Is that jack likely to be for a headset or headphones?

If it's the prior, surely that means Sony are going to rectify, for me, what was a big mistake with the PS3 and ship mics with each console?

1. Agreed
2. If they make the touchpad any larger, your thumbs could accidentally touch the pad while pressing the square button or the right directional pad

We may get vita buttons... nothing is set till the 20th.

I'm praying GAF!

How can a colour be dated?

I think they are fine as is. I do not understand the concept that a colour is dated lol.

From a design aspect, absolutely colors can be dated. It's just a silly personal preference of mine though, so I can see why you wouldn't matter to most people. I look at those colors and think, "Gross."

Those images already circulated on GAF yesterday and everyone laughed at them.

Not everyone. There were some people that wanted it to be real for the reactions and others that thought there was a possibility that it could be real (because touch control > analog according to them).

So basically, we're getting an amalgamation of the DS3, Vita, 360, WiiU and Move controllers, all in one.

I hope they take the majority of their design influence from the Vita, it's just so damn sexy.

Also, I have to train people until 4pm so please make sure to forward any meltdowns to me.

It was never the accuracy of the motion control on the Dualshock that bothered me, it was the naturalness of holding a controller in both hands to try and achieve what the Wii or MOVE could. It's just NOT a good shape for that type of activity.

about the comparison picture: If you look closely at the picture, you will get an idea of how big the triggers are. Look at the shadowing. The triggers are elongated. The handles also appear to be thicker towards their ends, almost like they're stepped.

I hope it's like the Move controller on the left. That T button feels great.

It looks like the prototype is slightly convex in the middle, but still concave on the outside. So maybe it's the best of both worlds.

That looks a lot less bulky than the first picture. Maybe a prototype that's further along?

I like the idea of rounded grips a lot

I actually like this picture a lot the more I look at it. I'd be very happy if this was a somewhat final version of the controller.

Looks like the same version to me, just a much better angle.

Hm. This is also a good point. Didn't think about that!

Never forget the Vita D-Pad, that's like forgetting your mothers birthday.

Concave sticks and larger, makes me wonder why they moved away from the original DualAnalog design, as it had both things.

504x_dual-analog-shock-lights.jpg

The sticks look convex with a ridge around the outside rather than concave. Maybe recessed convex is the best description.

They fixed the triggers and it looks bigger! My hype for PS4 just started. If the controller doesn't hurt my hands I am probably going to be in.

Looks like they slope downward again? :-/

Hmm...IGN BS'ing?

IGN said:
Update: Another source has told IGN that the mysterious space in the middle of the controller can be pressed like a button, something Kotaku's source has also stated. Our separate source also indicates that the R2 and L2 buttons may actually be more in line with spring-loaded Xbox 360-like triggers and that the light atop the controller is indeed a PlayStation Move sensor.

You guys know it's a prototype right. That's why it looks cheap. It's not meant to have the final product sheen yet.

Also there is no way they listened to complaints about the analogs and not the trigger.
