Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

People seem to forget that this vidoc was supposed to be the official reveal of Destiny, and that the IGN concept art video wasn't supposed to go live before the actual vidoc. I think people wouldn't be so disappointed if they would've kept this in mind and IGN didn't release the concept art video too early.

That said, I wasn't to impressed by what I saw either. The story and gameplay mechanics however, sounded really interesting. Pretty excited to see/hear more about the game.

At the game's reveal in Bungie's Bellevue, Washington office this week, attended by Eurogamer, Bungie COO Pete Parsons said: "It's a persistent, shared and connected world, so you will need to be connected [to the internet] to play Destiny."

On the possibility of a PC version, Parsons said: "We would absolutely love to be on the PC. If you talk to the people upstairs, we play it on all platforms. So, stay tuned." No mention was made of a Wii U version.

Pc version confirmed?

Who are these peasants who don't have an internet connection to their gaming console in 2013?

Not to mention that XBL is the only mandatory charged service.

they're just thinking of our less fortunate brothers who spends several hundreds of dollars on gaming machines while having no access to internet, food, or water.

How about any consumer electronic device not being connection to the internet at all times?

I don't understand how this is even a point of discussion.

How can people bitch about it requiring online if the whole point is that it's a living, persistent online world that you can plug into? It makes no sense to me. They've constantly said it's designed to be social from the ground up...

I have no problem with always online. The point of this game is to have a persistent world that's always connected. This is sort of what I wanted out of mass effect.

It's one thing when online or multiplayer is not really needed, but this is not that type of game.

Exactly. It's like people have this checklist of things that if ever uttered by a dev, they flip out instantly, regardless of how the feature is implemented. We're only going to see games go more this route in the future, it's the nature of the beast, and I'm all for it if it makes the universe that much more compelling.

Please tell me it's confirmed! 8D

Sorry, it's not, but IGN said they've heard Sony are showing a big 3rd party game that's not platform exclusive and it seems to fit with Bungie's schedule. They're going to want to show the game in the best light so will want to show it on next-gen consoles as much as they can, but obviously they can't do that until the next-gen consoles are confirmed to exist.

So three days until we see Destiny on the PS4? That would be too much.

Watch it be Call of Duty instead.

I hope it's Destiny, but I'm not going to hold my breathe.

This is the part that always gets me.

"WELP, RULES ME OUT", are you posting from a library?

If you cant afford an internet connection, dont be fucking gaming, go look for a better fucking job.

Just thought I'd point out that, in my town, it's not a matter of economics, just a matter of where in the city you live. On the side of the town where I live, with similar living expenses, rent, job access, etc, I have access to up to 100Mbps cable or, if you hate yourself, 7Mbps DSL. After you pass a certain street (I shit you not), you have access to neither service, and most people just have 4G for internet.

But as has been pointed out, this is a game designed around online persistence or whatever, so those people are SOL anyway.

I'm not getting my hopes up for that. I don't expect any peep from Bungie until at least GDC (and even then probably some more higher-level stuff, since it's a lecture). Then again, I also believed they wouldn't fly a bunch of press for a day long media event and never actually show them anything. :/ It's just all too weird. We all know the game is playable, and that it's been in heavy testing for a while, and that different members of Bungie have been raiding together, etc, etc... They even showed the journalists pictures of testers and devs playing, but only showed them enjoying themselves, not the actual gameplay. It doesn't make any sense to me at all.

It's like a worse tease than Halo 2's cliffhanger.

Laughed in real life.

Always connected games are going to become much more prominent it curbs piracy, helps games stay updated and as bug free as possible and keeps people connected.

IGN guys bitched in a round about way about how the phone integration stuff was a bad thing and I think the complete opposite.

I want to push that further.

Battlefield 5 with buddy using his iPad to draw attack routes and strategies on a map which updates in real time and shows up on the ground/maps to people playing the game.

Another guy sat at his pc with an overview of the battlefield sending in supply drops for his squad.

Cross device integration could be pushed into some amazing directions.

Until it's a global requirement for everyone to have at least 10Mb/s down/up with less than 150ms ping, I'd say the "always online" is an acceptable complaint. Due to businesses like Qwest ignoring every rural request, my parent's house has a max of 300 kb/s down 100 kb/s up. My Xbox always chugged along on that connection until I went to college, so always online would have been a bitch for me. It's not always you either have internet or you don't.

Fuck, every time GAF craps out and I get logged out I always freak out thinking I got banned or something since I can't reply :lol

The biggest issue with the "no Internet connectivity" complaint I don't understand is the fact that it's on consoles. Bringing a disc to a friend's or redboxing games is one thing, but a console? Really, where the fuck are you bringing an entire gaming setup with you that won't have Internet?

The whole mobile integration is understandable (I'm probably going to waste all my data on launch because of the Destiny app) from a consumer standpoint but I really don't see them losing millions of customers to the constant Internet connection issue.

Underwhelming doesn't begin to describe the Destiny reveal. It might be a cool game but they haven't shown enough. I wonder if it's going to be a truly fantastic experience or if its going to be just okay (proving Bungie has its own head up its ass). Time will tell. I'm certainly not running out to change my wallpaper to some piece of concept art. Not enough hype for that.
