This, 1000 times.
It makes me wonder, tho, why these projects aren't better planned on the ground: I kind of doubt MS and Sony forced CAPCOM to re-re-re-publish these games, as well I'm pretty sure Sony didn't command SNKP to boost NeoGeo Station with such an uninspired lineup...
I imagine it's a mix of what M2 has to do with each port (as equal as all "old" games are to the consumer, the amount of work of decoding a "Black Tiger" vs "King Arthur" for M2 might actual be considerably different), and stubborn Japanese policiy and philosophy from the higher-ups.
EVERY collection starts out like this. Even this many years into this gen, with DLC "arcade" games released all the time, we're still not past the early titles. The idea probably runs a lot deeper than we think.
And also: why isn't the 'season pass' out now, instead of late May? Does it always have to be a 'task'? Does easier money stink?
I wonder how many hoops Capcom's middle-management groups have to jump through in order to get higher management stuff to work? I wouldn't be surprised if elements of Capcom wanted to do just as we desired, but other sections say "well, it's not worth doing, if we can't make THIS kind of money off it, first!"
Not to mention... you don't really see many season passes from JP companies. I wonder if that's more because of their ways of thinking, or special difficulty in negotiating how to handle such things...
Well said.
People who complain about $4 per game probably spend $6 to $7 a day on McDonald or other crappy fast food.
I always have to wonder, in situations like this, what other things people play that make them think such things are HORRIBLE values, when compared to the quality, especially.
Downloadable like this have replaced my magazine and comic buying... A few candy bars cost just as much as these games. Cheap DVDs cost as much as 3 of these games. Sports games tickets for 1 day of play cost much more than these ever will, and can't be "played with" nearly as long.
People don't want Capcom DLC and you're actually CONSIDERING IT?!
Sure am. I find most of the Capcom DLC whining to be pretty stupid. Mostly because, they actually offer a lot of what I want with DLC, sometimes even moreso than they do with their full games. The price I had to pay to have Elena playable in something that wasn't Super Crouch Mid Kick Parry Fighter III was small, in comparision, and without that on-disk DLC, I'm sure I'd have gone many years without getting to play her in a new fighter.
I loved RE5's DLC. The Merc modes in RE feel like semi-free full games to me, and I generally can't stand TPS for long past their initial popularity. Dragon's Dogma did more for me in a few weeks than Oblivion or Skyrim put together, multiplied by 2. I've played through Lost Planet 2 more than I ever touched Gears 1 and 2 combined. As much as I hate many of Capcom's Fighter balance decisions (Hsien Ko
) I really do like a lot of what they do as a company, and in the Downloadable Space, and with DLC, they do a lot of things I wish other JP companies would try more earnestly! (If Konami would use Hudson and their own licenses for downloadable games as boldy as Capcom does with things like Arcade Cabinet, I'd be a happy camper...)
That's the thing though, i'd love to support it but it doesn't offer any games I'm interested in. The pricing atm however is OK, but I sadly am being somewhat hypocritcal by not supporting it at that price; I have bought SEGA's classic games last year for $5 a piece =P
I'm sure you could find an unplayed gem or 2 somewhere in this collection, if only to buy 1 pack for. I played Black Tiger on the PSP collection, but getting to play it on TV with so many better options just makes the thing feel so more worth it... and getting to play Avengers 2 Player Local will help me enjoy the "This reminds me of Mission Impossible NES!" Vibe that it's graphics style envokes, even more..
Love the menus, music, artwork and all the features of this package. Too bad I already own all of the games in another form.
I might buy a couple of my favorites just to have them more easily accessible, and to support the release of more arcade titles that haven't gotten as much attention. *coughSLAMMASTERScough*
On PS3 you can even upload Youtube vids! There are some cool features to this set, that make rebuying a few worth it, even if you have them already. I actually enjoyed watching Playthroughs of Wonderboy in the Sega collections, since I was totally oblivious to the maze in the last dungeon of the arcade game, and getting to see gamemasters blitz though it (and see that the path I eked out was actually right!) was worth the price of admission alone, lol.
And Slam Masters... tryly DO WANT. I fell in love with that game on SNES, and Co-op wrestling or the sort is somethng I don't enjoy anyway near as much in more modern wrestlers...
psyched to check this out. amazingly I've never played Black Tiger.
the second pack is going to be so boss.
I played it before on PSP collection, but it might as well be a new game played like this. And I like getting to mess around with the Sound Equalizer; can even make the game sound like it's coming out of headphones, to get that portable feel, lol.
Actually getting to play these games with Joysticks and on my nice LCD screen just feels so great. "Manic" image filter options all the way, lol.
Nope and never will be either.
*nodnod*
If you knew how cheap you could get some games, you'd prob. become a PC gamer overnight =P
Well, you get what you pay for
Really, I'm happy and all for how cheap PC games can be, due to more people being able to play, but truthfully... I feel something messed up about getting some highly valuable games for pennies with steam bundle sales. You've made your purchase worth of value before you even press start with some of those prices. As much as I am happy that Carpe Fulgur can make operating income to live and survive through steam sales, I also personally wish they could make such sales, numerically, at more "this is what the product is actually worth!" appropriate prices...
M2 doesn't come cheap. ---
If you want cheap emulation, you go with Backbone... If you want quality emulation, you go with M2.
-nod- It's a good thing to realize and discuss, because when things like this come up, the complaints of "price" are much louder than the discussions of the actual games.
I loved those "rebirth" collections on Wii also; THOSE are the kind of remakes I wish to see many more of.
I wish this type of thing could be released with a way to make the licenses cross-platform. I'd gladly pay decent money to have cross-platform licenses, but 'DLC' will never be cross-platform.
I also wonder about a service driven model, like a subscription.
Gameroom tried that. It fumbled, and noone seemed to pick up on the good aspects. If Arcade Cabinet comes to Vita eventually, that's probably the best you'll get.
I also kinda doubt the publishers want to sell such sweeping licenses to their products anywho. There's money to be had on each platform, why cut away SO MUCH of it by giving multi console, PC, Mac, and Handheld licenses in one purchase? Not to mention resales with new packaging on coming consoles? Already, the fact the PSP and PS2 releases are swaying many people away from supporting THIS release, even if this one has world better quality than those ever will.
Truthfully, I don't think Capcom or anyone sees these as subscription-level services yet. Especially with the logistics of Achievement / Trophy distribution, how much it cost to upload / maintain this content on each service, the kind of trailers and promotion to give for each, and so on. Just making a DLC Platform / Series of releases under a common banner seems to be a strech for them, and we're just gettiing to that now, with what Capcom, Sega, and SNKP have been doing for the past 2 years or so.
Maybe things will change with the next gen of consoles, if their up-front policies for most system-providers are more lenient (which needs to happen, to compete with Steam.) But as things are now... pre-planned sets, with the chance of sequel-like DLC to expand later on, are probably the best we can hope for...
