Capcom Arcade Cabinet coming to all major game platforms in 2013

Am I alone is my disappointment every time one of these collections is announced? It's never the collection I'm looking for.

Like the Powerstone Collection, or the Sega Model 3 collection. When those show up, I'm all in.

I bought Reloaded and Classic for PSP, you are trying to resell me once more the same thing Capcom

Me too, I have both Reloaded and Remixed, about 40 games for 10 euros (in sale.. now 20€)

I'm not going to rebuy them just for a couple of trophies..

Wow, it's really made by M2 (can't remember the gaffer who assumed so, maybe Sab?)!
UI, settings and overall presentation are freaking fantastic... Even better than NeoGeo Station and SEGA Vintage Collections.

I really, REALLY hope this thing can survive the initial and quite underwhelming lineup, in order to bring us some classic CPS-1/2 goodness relatively soon. Can't imagine how great would feel playing SSFII, Zero, Muscle Bomber, Battle Circuit, Strider, Captain Commando etc so nicely emulated. I also hope they will bring back again the original Final Fight, since Double Impact was edited and lacking the glorious region selector provided by Arcade Cabinet.

Having downloaded the free Cab + Black Dragon bundle from the japanese PS Store, I wonder if I'll be able to buy the games/bundle from EU Store tomorrow and paste them into the main game or I'll have to get the whole pack from there.

Yup, after seeing the UI (which is quite similiar to Mega drive and Neo Geo Station collections), and especially the music player, I was pretty confident it was M2. Almost the exact same music player as in the other collections. (The Neo Geo one even lets you play music from other seperately purchased NG games with the collection, if memory serves...)

Glad to hear all this! Thanks for the impressions. I'll end up getting bundle 1 on 360, and then probably await the final pack in the end... $15 saved from waiting a few months, when Darkstalkers will be coming out next month for that exact amount? Too good to pass up on.

Wish they'd offer a season pass style deal.

I do wonder, after seeing the full trailers for this game in EN and JP, if this collection is made with the intention of being expandable, or if Capcom just thought "17 game collection... WE DID GOOD... that's all!"? They don't tease the idea of "future games comming soon!" at all, and I think the initial report of "30 games" was probably just a confusion of this celebrating the "30th anniversairy" of Capcom...

Have any other games been able to share DLC between vastly different versions? I've heard the Asian Gundam Extreme VS game can use the JP DLC, but that's about it.

Really? M2?

I'll buy them all then. I'm also going to get the Space Harrier 3D (also an M2 product) for the 3DS this week.

I agree about the possible '30-whatever' misunderstanding, but... When you browse the wallpapers you can put behind the game screen, the one with all the icons put together is called 'Characters Set 1'. Maybe it means something, maybe nothing... :°

Yeah, that's not common at all (as far as I remember, all my PAL games' DLCs stated to be specifically compatible with the european version of said game): there is an option that allows you to leave the Arcade and jump straight to PS Store, in order to buy the paid titles and it actually redirects to euro Store in my case, but it's still empty so unfortunately I couldn't check.

I feel like every time a company starts up another "classic games" thing they drag out the same 10 or so games to start it off with ad infinitum. Why? Why not kick it off with some style and excitement - some Street Fighter 2 with online play to get the casuals excited, then some great new old arcade games...Capcom has such a rich stable of arcade history and they want us to get excited about playing Ghosts n' Goblins again?

This right here. It's always the same stuff repackaged. No way will we get Dungeons and Dragons or Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.

Is it available on Xbox already? I can't seem to find it, the fact that is made by M2 is awesome, those guys sure know how to make ports with amazing upscaling and scanlines!

Very interesting, hope it does mean something, in the end!

So the "wrapper" app actually considers the store of the account you're in... very cool. Guess it might work out then! Good luck with that.

Nope, this Wed on Xbox. Being treated just like any other XBLA release. Games will release on Weds too, I believe.

Note that this particular collection also allows you to turn games for "tate" play, too, so you'll be able to play Commando and 1940-series as intended!

I'm downloading off of the japanese PSN. Does the US store get updated today?

Yes, US PSN store gets the Cabinet in it's update today.

Whoa,

Straight up M2 greatness. All the same great features of the Sega Vintage and Neo Geo Station...just now Capcom arcade titles! Very classy.

Fricken' awesome! Japanese version just shows up straight english since my system is set to english. About 1.5 GB.

Definitely getting them from PSN later today, I'd recommend setting the PS3 to 720P if you're interested in using scanlines. When set to 1080P the scanlines are to thin IMHO.

Key thing is crazy M2 style features here. Full button remaps for stick users. Different territory versions. I'm actually having fun with Black Tiger for once. Here is to hoping folks support it in part and Capcom goes the distance and it does not fizzle out like the Neo Geo station.

Arcade cabinet?
This thing probably need some sort of dock for the Wii U Gamepad to reproduce the vintages cabinets!

I really hope they continue beyond just the early arcade games and release some other titles like the Slam Masters series. That would be spectacular.

That is where you come in. Gotta buy a few of these for support and hope for the best. Unfortunately past history means they will never get to the good stuff. But this time could be different.

I'd love a port of Area 88. Probably a shit game but I always loved it on the Super Fami.

These early ports are good. I'm waiting till the US PSN release and will likely get the other titles.

I wonder if they will re-release Final Fight and Magic Sword because I would love a button configuration for Final Fight. The developer of Magic Sword and Final Fight for PSN and XBLA forgot to add one, which was a bone head decision.

Anyway I'm waiting till May so I can buy the full pack all at once.

Like others have said, I really hope this continues.

I'm really dissapointed this isn't coming out for vita, but M2 does some fine work. I may still get it.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see it come out at a later date, or in a different way, if successful enough. Maybe it'd even be a PS+ thing at time time, with crossbuy... Capcom and Sony seem to have a good realationship in that way.

MEGAMAN POWER BATTLE!!!!!!

Really needs to happpen. They're perfect Boss Battle runs, great with multiplayer, and full of a collection of great elements from so many Megaman games... I would have loved to have seen a POWER BATTLE "Rearmed" or some sort, as a MM Anni. Celebration... could even milk it with DLC for months and months, giving the cast and midbosses of all the Megaman games a chance to return / be playable after beating them... _totally off topic..._

And LOL at how long it's taking this US PSN update to show up. Sony is pretty ridiculous...

They were already released on PSP and PS2.

It's a ripoff, Capcom never learns with their DLC bullshit. Guys please start pricing your DLC properly according to the value you offer. And release new games, not the same again and again.

Backbone ports were released on PS2 and PSP. Not M2 port caliber.

I'm easily beginning to think M2 level emulation doesn't come cheap, btw.

Sega Collections were 3 games for 10 Dollars, Neo Geo Station were $7 to $9 each, these are 10 dollars per 3, or $35 in the end for 17... Makes it easy to see why so many companies early in the gen opted for inexpensive, more sloppy emulations for their game-dump collections, eh...

GAF (and many online outlets) cried "Stop with these sub-par Backbone ports!" ... and they did. And better quality cost more money. Probably for the consumer, and the developers. Can't complain too much though: I really like HQ classic releases. The art assets and trivia for the games are often as enjoyable as the games themselves, and features like music players, dipswitch settings, varied filters, and online play are so much better than they were in those much-mentioned cheaper collections.

As far as actual value... I often times feel like I get as much, if not more than my money's worth out of any of these collections. The tight gameplay and arcade-mentality of older games still feels "valuable", and even if I was just to put quaters into an actual machine I'd find on a roadtrip, I'd possibly spend more than 4 dollars per game, y'know?

There really are SO MANY things M2 does with their collections that I wish could be retrofitted into the old Taito, SNK, or Capcom collections I already have... I'd rebuy a Bust a Move 2 re-release just so I wouldn't be stuck with that soulless US Bust-a-Move that is missing Bub and Bob, replaced with a boring hand! And being able to pick from JP or INT romsets is such a boon! So many underappreciated details...

This, 1000 times.

It makes me wonder, tho, why these projects aren't better planned on the ground: I kind of doubt MS and Sony forced CAPCOM to re-re-re-publish these games, as well I'm pretty sure Sony didn't command SNKP to boost NeoGeo Station with such an uninspired lineup... I - and I guess the majority of gaffers posting here as well - don't really care, I'll throw in my support with the hope for better games in the future, but it boggles me how publishers don't grab the opportunity to just profit out of their developers and at the same time amaze us from the very beginning.
I mean, it's not like having Super Street Fighter II X today would make me uninterested in Ghosts'n Goblins next month. And also: why isn't the 'season pass' out now, instead of late May? Does it always have to be a 'task'? Does easier money stink? :D

That's the thing though, i'd love to support it but it doesn't offer any games I'm interested in. The pricing atm however is OK, but I sadly am being somewhat hypocritcal by not supporting it at that price; I have bought SEGA's classic games last year for $5 a piece =P

Love the menus, music, artwork and all the features of this package. Too bad I already own all of the games in another form.

I might buy a couple of my favorites just to have them more easily accessible, and to support the release of more arcade titles that haven't gotten as much attention. *coughSLAMMASTERScough*

M2 doesn't come cheap. They made the latter Sega Ages compilations for the PS2, when they started packing in a few emulated games on a disc for 2500 Yen (that would be around $20), including collections on Wonderboy/Monster World, Phantasy Star, Treasure's Master System & Genesis library, Space Harrier, and Fantasy Zone, all of which were complete collections in that you got pretty much every variation and permutation of every game involved, including improvements from later compilations and prototypes. Hell, M2 created a new version of Fantasy Zone II out of whole cloth running with the question "Had Fantasy Zone II been ported like Fantasy Zone I to the Master System instead of made for it, what would the arcade version of it on Fantasy Zone I's arcade hardware look like?"

M2 continued down that path with the Rebirth series of Konami games with Contra Rebirth, Gradius Rebirth, and Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth. M2 is also the company who handled the porting of Konami's arcade games to the DS and PSP, and who handles all emulation on the Virtual Console save for Nintendo's own systems.

If you want cheap emulation, you go with Backbone... If you want quality emulation, you go with M2.

I wish this type of thing could be released with a way to make the licenses cross-platform. I'd gladly pay decent money to have cross-platform licenses, but 'DLC' will never be cross-platform.

I also wonder about a service driven model, like a subscription.

honorless

We don't have "get out of jail free" cards, but if we did, she'd have one.
I guess I could blame you for not having done any research, but I guess this info should also be edited into the first post if this is transforming into an OT.

Every two-player title can be played online.

PS3 version can upload replays to YT
360 version can upload screenshots to FB

I imagine it's a mix of what M2 has to do with each port (as equal as all "old" games are to the consumer, the amount of work of decoding a "Black Tiger" vs "King Arthur" for M2 might actual be considerably different), and stubborn Japanese policiy and philosophy from the higher-ups.

EVERY collection starts out like this. Even this many years into this gen, with DLC "arcade" games released all the time, we're still not past the early titles. The idea probably runs a lot deeper than we think.

And also: why isn't the 'season pass' out now, instead of late May? Does it always have to be a 'task'? Does easier money stink? :D

I wonder how many hoops Capcom's middle-management groups have to jump through in order to get higher management stuff to work? I wouldn't be surprised if elements of Capcom wanted to do just as we desired, but other sections say "well, it's not worth doing, if we can't make THIS kind of money off it, first!"

Not to mention... you don't really see many season passes from JP companies. I wonder if that's more because of their ways of thinking, or special difficulty in negotiating how to handle such things...

Well said.

People who complain about $4 per game probably spend $6 to $7 a day on McDonald or other crappy fast food.

I always have to wonder, in situations like this, what other things people play that make them think such things are HORRIBLE values, when compared to the quality, especially.

Downloadable like this have replaced my magazine and comic buying... A few candy bars cost just as much as these games. Cheap DVDs cost as much as 3 of these games. Sports games tickets for 1 day of play cost much more than these ever will, and can't be "played with" nearly as long.

People don't want Capcom DLC and you're actually CONSIDERING IT?!

Sure am. I find most of the Capcom DLC whining to be pretty stupid. Mostly because, they actually offer a lot of what I want with DLC, sometimes even moreso than they do with their full games. The price I had to pay to have Elena playable in something that wasn't Super Crouch Mid Kick Parry Fighter III was small, in comparision, and without that on-disk DLC, I'm sure I'd have gone many years without getting to play her in a new fighter.

I loved RE5's DLC. The Merc modes in RE feel like semi-free full games to me, and I generally can't stand TPS for long past their initial popularity. Dragon's Dogma did more for me in a few weeks than Oblivion or Skyrim put together, multiplied by 2. I've played through Lost Planet 2 more than I ever touched Gears 1 and 2 combined. As much as I hate many of Capcom's Fighter balance decisions (Hsien Ko:( ) I really do like a lot of what they do as a company, and in the Downloadable Space, and with DLC, they do a lot of things I wish other JP companies would try more earnestly! (If Konami would use Hudson and their own licenses for downloadable games as boldy as Capcom does with things like Arcade Cabinet, I'd be a happy camper...)

That's the thing though, i'd love to support it but it doesn't offer any games I'm interested in. The pricing atm however is OK, but I sadly am being somewhat hypocritcal by not supporting it at that price; I have bought SEGA's classic games last year for $5 a piece =P

I'm sure you could find an unplayed gem or 2 somewhere in this collection, if only to buy 1 pack for. I played Black Tiger on the PSP collection, but getting to play it on TV with so many better options just makes the thing feel so more worth it... and getting to play Avengers 2 Player Local will help me enjoy the "This reminds me of Mission Impossible NES!" Vibe that it's graphics style envokes, even more..

Love the menus, music, artwork and all the features of this package. Too bad I already own all of the games in another form.

On PS3 you can even upload Youtube vids! There are some cool features to this set, that make rebuying a few worth it, even if you have them already. I actually enjoyed watching Playthroughs of Wonderboy in the Sega collections, since I was totally oblivious to the maze in the last dungeon of the arcade game, and getting to see gamemasters blitz though it (and see that the path I eked out was actually right!) was worth the price of admission alone, lol.

And Slam Masters... tryly DO WANT. I fell in love with that game on SNES, and Co-op wrestling or the sort is somethng I don't enjoy anyway near as much in more modern wrestlers...

psyched to check this out. amazingly I've never played Black Tiger.

the second pack is going to be so boss.

I played it before on PSP collection, but it might as well be a new game played like this. And I like getting to mess around with the Sound Equalizer; can even make the game sound like it's coming out of headphones, to get that portable feel, lol.

Actually getting to play these games with Joysticks and on my nice LCD screen just feels so great. "Manic" image filter options all the way, lol.

Nope and never will be either.

*nodnod*

If you knew how cheap you could get some games, you'd prob. become a PC gamer overnight =P

Well, you get what you pay for ;) Really, I'm happy and all for how cheap PC games can be, due to more people being able to play, but truthfully... I feel something messed up about getting some highly valuable games for pennies with steam bundle sales. You've made your purchase worth of value before you even press start with some of those prices. As much as I am happy that Carpe Fulgur can make operating income to live and survive through steam sales, I also personally wish they could make such sales, numerically, at more "this is what the product is actually worth!" appropriate prices...

M2 doesn't come cheap. ---

If you want cheap emulation, you go with Backbone... If you want quality emulation, you go with M2.

-nod- It's a good thing to realize and discuss, because when things like this come up, the complaints of "price" are much louder than the discussions of the actual games.

I loved those "rebirth" collections on Wii also; THOSE are the kind of remakes I wish to see many more of.

I wish this type of thing could be released with a way to make the licenses cross-platform. I'd gladly pay decent money to have cross-platform licenses, but 'DLC' will never be cross-platform.

I also wonder about a service driven model, like a subscription.

Gameroom tried that. It fumbled, and noone seemed to pick up on the good aspects. If Arcade Cabinet comes to Vita eventually, that's probably the best you'll get.

I also kinda doubt the publishers want to sell such sweeping licenses to their products anywho. There's money to be had on each platform, why cut away SO MUCH of it by giving multi console, PC, Mac, and Handheld licenses in one purchase? Not to mention resales with new packaging on coming consoles? Already, the fact the PSP and PS2 releases are swaying many people away from supporting THIS release, even if this one has world better quality than those ever will.

Truthfully, I don't think Capcom or anyone sees these as subscription-level services yet. Especially with the logistics of Achievement / Trophy distribution, how much it cost to upload / maintain this content on each service, the kind of trailers and promotion to give for each, and so on. Just making a DLC Platform / Series of releases under a common banner seems to be a strech for them, and we're just gettiing to that now, with what Capcom, Sega, and SNKP have been doing for the past 2 years or so.

Maybe things will change with the next gen of consoles, if their up-front policies for most system-providers are more lenient (which needs to happen, to compete with Steam.) But as things are now... pre-planned sets, with the chance of sequel-like DLC to expand later on, are probably the best we can hope for...
