I guess we haven't learned, have we?

Yeah, visiting Gaf the past two generations, it is best to view these early releases with high scepticism. I am still hyped but I don't believe any of the graphics that were not clearly gameplay. Also, I expect the graphics to improve as the generation improves. Plus, we still haven't seen a lot of major upcoming first party PS4 titles.

I want to see PD.

Why are people negating Watch Dogs because it was running on a PC? PS4 will easily run that shit.

With all new reveals you get uneducated people who are used to seeing Nintendo-like graphics and thinking they're awesome. When they see things like this they think it's impossible.

Unless MS changes something drastically or the rumors are completely wrong we can safely say bye bye inferior multiplats for PS4 owners. Not sure about Bethesda though.. Lol.

These gifs are total nonsense. That is to say, a tiny gif obfuscates so much of the detail that it gives the visuals an almost magical impossible quality. I was mindboggled by the Killzone city gif until I looked at the actual 720p video. Then it became much more plausible. The gif itself is almost unbelievable, but the video, I can process those graphics. They're great, sure, but they aint the FMV-class wizardry in the gif.

The topic is about games with movie level CG and how they mean next gen is here. Watch Dogs is running on PC hardware released last year. It doesn't mean it's unimpressive or impossible to do on PS4, just not what the OP is talking about.

While the gameplay looks unbelievable, the visuals to me look impressive, but not otherworldly... technically to me just about every other game looked more impressive. I'd imagine the fact that it's built from the ground up on this gen of consoles in order to run on them affects what the final outcome would be.

Deep down looks imminently doable to me in real time. Some of the fancy stuff like camera slow down is just scripted drama; not exactly beyond the bounds of expectation... and the non-action sequences seem like they can be done in engine.

Seems like Next-Gen Dragon's Dogma to me... they're really angling for that sweet Elder Scrolls cash.

And I think if they can get this out in a timely manner, they may very well succeed too.

It's nothing we haven't already seen in bits and pieces via Square's Luminous engine, UE4, CE3, etc. It just happens to wrap it all around a more geek gamer appealing package of hack and slash medieval fuck yeah!

That said; the real question is can the developer maintain the quality and consistency throughout the game as shown in this PR trailer? They're aiming for a pretty high bar there, so big props to them if they can pull it off.

I mean... given that we have stuff like God of War 3 this generation on hardware from 2005... This seems like a fairly natural extension on that.

Stop saying the Capcom video was bullshit. Just watch it in 1080p via the link I posted and then use your eyes.

Unless you're not knowledgeable enough to recognize things... then maybe you shouldn't spew shit :p

Seriously, why the fuck would Capcom even...

I think capcom's is fake, with a laughable fake UI weapon selection. Concept all the way.

Sure, it may be fake gameplay for sure, but that shit is in-engine ps4 all the way, and should look like that if it's ever a full fledged game.

Watch. The. Video.

Then view it with educated eyes. Look at the guy's head when he passes in front of the light from the flames in the background.

Also look at the edges of every object. You can see normal game-engine rendering flaws.

Indeed. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ran better on the PS4 too.

I doubt it was even developed with 8GB in mind since the Ram was upped only recently right? Acc to Edge at least. Also this is a launch title and in an unfinished state. Imagine 2-3 years down the line!! ND and SSM show us the glory of PS4.

More like 2, they didnt know they had 8

Oh snap!

^ Is the only thing that really impressed me visually, and I am almost certain its CG. =/

Killzone looks nice though, don't get me wrong. It just looks like a natural evolution of what we have now.. the gif above illustrated a huge leap giving an actual new visual experience.

It's really not that hard to tell.

Yeah the final game may not match that level of fidelity, given that this is all scripted, but it should get fairly close.

The best part is people thinking that Deep Down is prerendered CGI.

Oh man, they have another thing coming.

I'm gonna hop on this side lol, just don't get why people are saying that's leagues better than everything else we saw including- the squeenix tech demo (looks boring), Killzone, Infamous, etc.

I highly doubt the Deep Down footage is direct gameplay, but it was still confirmed to be in-engine at the conference.

It’s really not hard to believe that the game won’t look similar to that. CAPCOM are beasts when it comes to engines.

Its in engine.

But its defiantly not game play.

People seem to be judging the games pretty harshly.

Almost everything they showed was early in the development process, and was on a much larger scale than the majority of the games we're used to.

Deep Down looked as good as it does because they were showing a demo that takes place in a cave. Rendering an entire city and rendering a cave are two completely different things.

Maybe the secret to photo-realism is to render a game at 4K resolution and shrink it down to 1080P...

Looked real time to me.

People also said don't expect 8GB of GDDR5 and look how that turned out.

I don't think people are doubting it can't look like that. It's just all the angles, all the shit capcom pulls is giving people the impression this is not actually gameplay.Everything else show in the above gifs either present themselves as an ingame or a cutscene.Who do they actually think they were fooling putting that weapon bar at the bottom.

this. sure, it doesn't look like actual gameplay but in the subject of the graphics it really looks like its running in-engine, specially since it was shown as an engine demo.

So then this isnt a case like with the PS3 reveal?

If you go back and watch those games, they still have that scripted CGI quality about em, in that you can tell they're not being played. The killzone demo was clear as day gameplay, and there's no reason to believe Drive Club won't be doable given how GT5 and Forza already looked last gen. While people weren't huge on Knack, there's no denying it was impressive the smoothness and amount going on. I really don't think any of these are out of reach whatsoever, people thinking they are, are fooling themselves. People claiming "well watch dogs was on pc"... ok did you watch the other games then? Seriously, if watchdogs doesn't look like that on PS4 I will be absolutely shocked. We already got an E3 demo last year and it looked very similar.

it was the fact that the swordicon/HUD kept disappearing and constant changes to the camera angles is why it looks pre-rendered. you will never see those angles in the final game. we've all been here before with these super-early renditions.

Killzone in real time didn't blow me away. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me or I wasn't noticing the right thing. Don't know what to say really. I do think games are getting closer to concept art.

We don't even have a direct feed of Killzone yet. It's all been based off streams with tons of compression as far as I know.
