Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Will we see a new RPG from them?

With all the talk of racers, I am sure one of the will be.

My guess:

1 Racer
1 Platformer
1 Kinect stuff
1 Shooter

This is just one product manager of many at Microsoft Studios. Expect more than just 4 new IP's the first 2 years.

Horizon was the first Forza game that I really enjoyed, but there were a few things wrong with it (coming from a racing noob). It didn't have AutoVista, which I think was one of the most compelling features of 4. It didn't run at a high framerate like Forza 4 did (that I noticed). Other than that, the whole multiplayer aspect was really cool and is a direction I hope more games go, period.

It's gonna be open-world or bust for me this gen with a lot of games, unless the game itself has some really compelling features. Killzone was beautiful, but if you look at the actual play space, it was practically last-gen with respect to the scope.

I'm with you on the open world it's definately cool. But, you have to give thanks for the open world racing subgenre to Criterion with Burnout Paradise. Forza 4 had that ridiculous new lighting tech tht made the cars looks absolutely gorgeous and the frame rate is crazy. But alot of those features werent what Horizon was about. I loved the whole theme and vibe of the game.

But as for Killzone, I think that FPS in general can lend to those types of play spaces. But, Far Cry 3 is getting alot of love for it's open world game play.

They did. They release Banjoo Tooie. Rare released Viva. Rare released Kameo and Perfect Dark.

Kameo was beautiful but had frustrating and unsatisfying gameplay with abysmal controls.

Banjo N&B was B-tier (IMO) and not the platform adventure we all wanted.

Viva Pinata was a solid game that was too complicated for its target audience.

The Xbox has always missed out on having a solid fun straight-forward 3D platform adventure. It's like Microsoft always steps in and says "that's not enough" and decides to shoe-in over-complicated gameplay ideas that end up alienating the audience.

With next generation's power, there's an opportunity for an almost Pixar-like platform adventure which could really turn heads. And launch would be the perfect time to launch a new IP of that caliber. But, who am I kidding. They won't.

I don't know anything about that game, but Test Drive Unlimited, Midtown Madness, Driver (though that's not racing) and more... Criterion certainly didn't start anything in that regard, nor was BP critically or commercially successful enough to directly push other developers in that direction.

TDU I'd have to say was probably *the* groundbreaking one, even though there were more. I'd love to have seen what could've been done with any (or all) of the PGR games if they just opened up as much of the locations as the different layouts allowed so you could just drive around in them.

I been waiting for like 2 months to get my account activated i wanted to say TheOddOne you been doing a terrific job you have me coming back to this thread daily thanks for the dedication you do!

I still can`t understand why MS never really pushed the Banjo Kazooie franchise. They never gave it a real and fair shot to succeed. That just shows me that the current xbox team just doesn't get it.

It would be nice for Microsoft to have a decent platformer on their system (games like 'Splosion Man are really good but I mean large a retail boxed game).

Sony have Ratchet and Clank and Nintendo have Mario that and both release games somewhat frequently on their platforms but Microsoft don't seem to have anything.

They have a franchise in Banjo Kazooie and a studio in Rare capable of filling that gap but it seems like platformers aren't the big sellers they used to be and might not be worth developing/promoting :(

I hope MS gives twisted pixel full range and money supply. a team like twisted pixel is very rare to find and should be allowed to attempt AAA production as well.

Same with press play they're extremely talented and creative im so excited for the future of xbox :)

I think they bought Twisted Pixel to be a Kinect studio. Would be nice to see a full retail platformer from them though.

Is LocoCycle supposed to come out on the 360?

supposedly so is matter state of decay, and Ascend: New Gods. we will see..... all of them probably will be on the next system as well.

although gunslinger was good doubt it, I'm assuming a few of the new studios are kinect studios or will at least have kinect side projects

Microsoft only bought Twisted Pixel to ensure their exclusivity for their platforms.

Microsoft's a very big company, and you've got Twisted Pixel, a relatively smaller developer. We're very invested that they get to stay who they are, and they get to retain the magic they've got as a smaller indie developer - We'd like to leave the golden goose alone, so to speak.

Speak for yourself. I'm tired of generic platformers where all you do is jump around on things. Nuts and Bolts was kind of a bold move forward even if it didn't fully set out what it wanted to do. But I loved the idea and would have loved to see them make another one.

It's also probably in the top 5 best looking 360 games list.

Since Kinect 2.0 is heavily rumored to be packed in with all nextbox SKUs, I think that it's fair to say that these 4 titles will all be Kinect 2.0 titles in one way or another.

Yeah, it was posted. They're working on Tribal Towers and Ryse multiplayer.

ahh good , them working on ryse multi makes me think its a 3rd person action game potentially

All titles will probably feature kinect.

now your repeating your posts from this very thread?

All of them will have some sort of Kinect functionality integrated since Kinect will be packed in with all nextbox SKUs. Though this doesn't mean that these games will be Kinect focused games.

Utilizing kinect for specific / general features != being a "kinect title" (in the way trolls want people to believe)

first time I've ever seen you have a positive look on a video game.

i agree though

only 1/3 of 360 owners own Kinect...

Kinect 2.0 will likely be packaged with every console sold.

I would love to have kinect 2.0 in GOW , something like telling baird and cole to cover a side of the courtyard with your voice instead of watching stupid A.I do nothing. telling them as well as pointing where to get behind cover would be nice as well. Asking for ammo instead of having to walk up to them. i think kinect can be extremely useful.

I disagree, but to each his own.

The current xbox team is not the same team that was around when Banjo was being made, that was Shane Kim and Robbie Bach.

I'd love to see a pure, simple collectathon platformer launch from Rare.

But then they can never win "Where is the innovation?"

From one of the maps in the latest mappack.
Skyline from Majestic Map Pack.

Kinda wary about screenshots from it though. Previous map pack had 2D skyboxes/scenery, but this looks like it may be the real deal and the previous stuff may've just been that way due to time constraints.

Pretty much all I want from them. Do something innovative like Nuts & Bolts, or just do a new IP platformer-collectathon. The world desperately needs more platformers.
