Your eyes. They are good for using

This is just crazy Bruce...

You mean that the KZ Shadowfall presentation was made using only 1.5GB of video RAM???????? HOLY SHIT!

I can believe that considering the amount of video RAM most PC games require to run at 1080P, but when I think about that, the more I believe going with 8GB GDDR5 was complete overkill and unnecessary.

God bless Sony and Cerny for that, I hope it pays out to then in the end.

VRAM :) They likely were using at least 4GB of GDDR5 and then switched to the 8. Question is though how long ago did they know about the 8? Doesn't seem like they knew until relatively recently.

Yeah, they were probably usuing ~3GB with the expectation that the OS would use the rest, split down the middle for rendering and the rest similarly to how PS3's 256+256MB had them working, but now with twice the GDDR5 it could mean we'll see Killzone SF at 1080p (or close) running at 60fps. That's my hope, anyway.

Uh, that's the demo from PS Meeting, which they said was running on PS4-like PC (spec wise). Probably the 4GB specs.

Don't know why Deep Down graphics shouldn't be possible when Killzone was clearly running in real time and looked almost as good with this crazy background city.

We did not. It was PC same as Deep Down speced to PS4 like hardware.

Where was that said about Deep Down? Dude said it was on PS4 at conference, and I can believe it. Agni Philosophy looks more impressive as a pure tech demo and was definitely running on PS4.

Then i take it back. I thought there was some talk in other thread that Deep Down was on PC spec to PS4.

OH i know it was VGleaks article that stated Deep Down is Dragons Dogma 2 !

Take it back again. It was "inengine" not PC presentation so PS4.

I'm not a tech head so please correct me if I'm wrong, but the increase in RAM wouldn't benefit most post processing stuff (AA, etc.) instead of framerate?

I had to go back and watch the video to see if it were true and they did outright say it. This bodes well if SE can get their management issues fixed.

I guess there might have been a slight difference in IQ, but it looked identical otherwise. I am interested to see how FF looks at E3. I am treating the series as a little bit of blank slate. FFXIII look nice, and though a disappointment, was decent. FFXIII-2 was a downgrade visually, and became rather tedious. I doubt I will get Lightning Returns. SE needs to start with a fresh attitude for this gen. Agni Philosophy was pretty different in tone compared to the FFs this gen, but I am not sure if the terrorist-look alikes were the best message to send out on initial release.

My mistake. The demo is different however as the amount of money he withdraws from the bank account is different and the wind effect on the trees is more subtle. Looks like a different build. But still prototype hardware probably. At least it has the Playstation interface and icons.

Well, Agni is not a game so...

Can benefit all sorts of techniques in use. More models and textures and so on can exist in memory, but the system will still only render the pixels of whatever is dictated as visible on-screen (at least beyond the edges of what we see over HDMI). The extra memory also allows for more tricks to be used to reduce render time by making particles less intensive but maintain more population of embers or whatnot in the same space, more or less giving the same effect for less processing cycles, but more ram usage.

As for post-processing, this too happens on the processors and the additional ram might not affect it as much. Again, I'm saying "might" and "allows" because I'm not GG, my development experience is limited, and the most time I've spent with Sony's game designers is while working at SCEA as a tester. I'm currently at an art school for filmmaking and game design, so I'm learning like everyone else :)

Yeah, I know, but as a concept, it gives me some hope compared to what they have delivered this gen. I still reckon Versus is a current gen title (although I would probably prefer it to be PS4 now), and it is FF's only chance for redemption this gen.

That's great, thanks for the explanation friend!

Good luck on the art school! =)

You're welcome and thank you. I can't say how many of the people I've met over the last decade are involved in "next-gen" but a LOT of them are happy in the direction Sony is trying to push it. Microsoft already had some of it down (XBLA indie titles) and Nintendo at least tried with second-screen in the box, but there is a lot coming down the road that can continue to radically shift philosophies and how the gamer interacts with the ecosystems of their preferred platforms. Win win for everyone, I say.

Just read his memory card.

Are you referring to his post history. I did and it seems he got the 8GB thing right. Don't know what to make of the rest. Tbh I do not really care if he will be right or wrong. Its just the possibility of him being right that drives my hype. The sheer mentioning of betrayalton peaked my interest.

I love the drama.

IIRC Geoff asked a few devs if deep down was possible on the ps4 and they said yes, as long as you keep it to a single room without much else going on.

Watch. The. Video.

Then view it with educated eyes. Look at the guy's head when he passes in front of the light from the flames in the background.

Also look at the edges of every object. You can see normal game-engine rendering flaws.

You don't think they can add those in? Look who's uneducated.

Anyone else feel like Watch Dogs took a significant hit graphically compared to the reveal?

I did but I think, for now at least, that it was because it wasn't at night and raining where the lighting and other stuff really shows itself off. And the day part of the E3 demo seemed like it was sunset so again it had lighting tricks that were different than just plain day.

It still looked great for the most part.

edit: Also I'm disappointed Knack isn't in the OP. I thought it looked like a pixar/dreamworks movie. Such amazing and clean IQ and amazing smoke effects.

I still want to know WHO these betrayaltons are going to benefit.

So that my body is ready.

... You think they added in stuff like z-fighting and other artifacts just to make it look real? Wut? I'm not sure why it's so hard to accept that it was a real-time demo when it was right there with the Square Enix tech demo. The SE one was even more impressive imo simply for its scale.

Really? I think visually theyw will be able to accomplish what was seen, but gameplay won't replicate the seemless nature of what was shown. At least Capcom won't.

If true then screw them. In about a few years time as resolution takes a hit, I am certain we will get there (or almost) in linear games (no not corridor stuff).

While I agree that they wouldn't purposely add that to make their game look worse, it doesn't indicate that it was real-time. In-engine can (and usually does) mean that they used their real-time assets and engine to pre-render cutscenes and maintain the same look and feel (including some of the aliasing). Does this mean that whole demo was pre-rendered? No idea, but I think there are several parts of it that can easily be done with the hardware specs given.

The only thing I'd question is the fire at the end. It looks incredible good, like we've seen in CG movies. Is it possible in real-time? We'll have to wait and see what people who are working with the actual hardware have to say. Who knows, maybe we'll see things drastically better then this in a few years time, too.

Thats not what VRAM/RAM does... Sharper textures and more AA, sure. But it wont boost fps by 50%.

Its only good if the GPU/CPU can use it

How are they bullshots and how are they downsampled if they're 1080p direct feed shots?

Oops, my mistake, i opened a few of them and it seemed like the ones released from the PR... Just saw the DF's analysis where they captured directly from the video feed, and said it was native 1080p rendering.

yes it is true

actually i refuted that comment first but the poster is claiming 1.5g for graphics which is very true
Guerilla convinced SONY for the 8gig RAM which was changed like 2.5 months ago

EDIT: i clarified a few of my claims with Kagari about the nextbox/ps4 and upcoming betrayaltons at e3

KZ is the only game that blew people away at e3. did you see how many things were happening on screen . It looked familiar but you havent senn all of KZ. Evolution also blew people away and the realtime Capcom demo too

how can KZ be the ONlY game to blow people away at E3? You mean the sony meeting?

and then if its the ONLY game, how did evolution and DD also blew people away? That's some sketchy english.

So you told kagari what the betrayalton are? kagari should tell us then. :) Otherwise, it reads like BS.

there wasn't many gifs when I made the thread, there still is very little. I'll pop some on later tonight just for you. If people can post the KNACK gifs here, I'll edit them in later
