Crysis 3 beats Metal Gear Rising in UK Sales, Aliens: Colonial Marines beats both

I can't tell if it's an industry doom thread or the opposite.

Anyway, Aliens dropped 84%, hopefully even popular license won't save this turd.
And Crysis / Rising are both having solid start, I suppose. Great then, it's a good games.

It is pretty damn sad to see that neither game could reach ACM's first week sales.

That brand power.

I don't think you realize how popular Aliens are over here. Looking at your avi, reminds me that I find it crazy that nobody has made a Judge Dredd game. It would of made a fantastic killing over here at one point. 2000AD was by far one of the most popular Comic/Graphic magazines when I was Younger.

Did it? I honestly never remember seeing ads for it or anything. In fact the last ad for a DMC game I ever remember seeing was the original US add for DMC1 with the guy in the red bathrobe messing up his living room.

I miss the days of commercials like that.

Besides a few print ads, and a theatrical spot; DmC's marketing was entirely online. They likely blew much of that on releasing trailers to fight negativity.

I want to play a Dredd game where every bit of Olivia Thirlby's beautiful face is modeled in excruciating detail.

Or even Lena Headey, for that matter. She still looked hot in that movie.

Huh! I never remember seeing that! Thanks!

Yeah, I know DmC had that lame CG add in front of the Resident Evil movie (which means like, 12 people saw it). Most of DmC's publicity seemed to ride on what the whole controversy of the reboot, which part of me thinks was Capcom's intention.

--In regards to A:CMs sales--
Sales dropped off over 80% from week one to week two. Even DmC's dropoff wasn't that severe. I think that's pretty solid evidence that the word of mouth about A:CM being crap has spread.

Just give me The Dark Judges as boss fights and I don't give a fuck what else is in the game.

That brand power.

Brand power is also the main reason behind the (relative) success of Rising. Metal Gear is a big name, even if this is just a spin off. If it was just a Platinum action game with no metals and no gears attached, it would've performed much worse imho.

Oh I do realize, trust me. I'm just amazed at how well it has done, despite all we know about it. Then again, there's that big drop, but it still managed to do well enough to stay in the top 10.

But there have been a few Dredd games. The Dredd vs Zombies iPad game is fun, and then there was Dredd vs Death. I'd love to see a modern one based on the movie.

Here's a cancelled one.

Guess the UK didn't want to... *sunglasses* ... leave Crysis behind?

*YEAHHHH?*

sorry I should of made it clearer. A Current gen one.

Made by Rocksteady. There is no developer more deserving, or more appropriate (don't even bring up ninja theory)

A Damn shame nobody with the power to make it happen has thought this.

I seen one Crysis ad thats it really oh i did see a few Aliens but none for Rising.

As long as Rising doesn't drop out after 3 weeks like DmC I be happy sales wise

what is more laughable is DmC came out with nothing to compete against and still died in sales.

Doesn't really surprise me especially since both titles were so close in actual units sold. As for Aliens well...it is a major and well known franchise so no surprise there either.

Yeah, I'm holding off calling MGR a financial success until I see some raw numbers and make sure it doesn't drop off like a rock in weeks 2 or weeks 3.

Your last point is why I want to see the actual numbers for how much MGR sold. MGR came out right in the middle of a fairly packed month and shared its release week with another big name title, DmC had half of January to itself.

Yeah, that'd be great. I'd love for a game like that to exist. Rocksteady is the right dev for it too.

Please don't say you're thinking of the New Coke theory.

No, I don't think Capcom is even remotely that "clever". I just think they wanted the reboot to make a splash and get the name out there, regardless of positive or negative press. I think it was more a Jerry Jones "any news is good news" mentality.

The only potential part of the whole "New Coke" thing I could see happening is Capcom going "sorry" and just going back to classic DMC.

Which is exactly what they better fucking do.

I think a DMC5 or a DmC2 are equally likely at this point, to be honest. My gut kind of tells me that DmC2 will probably happen, because Capcom logic dictates that the best selling DMC game shouldn't get a sequel but the worst selling one should. In my humble opinion DmC wasn't anything that really stood out as fantastic for the franchise, I think they should just save themselves the future headaches and just go back to the style more people seem to want.

The reason DMC is nowhere to be seen is because it's still 40 quid in Game. Warfighter is considerably cheaper and therefore more likely to sell as people will take a punt on it. Honestly, if this chart was put against Game's in store price list it would make alot more sense to people. They're basically the only game store left apart from super markets.

I think DmC2 will happen because Capcom probably already has it in the planning stages.

I think it's at best in the planning stages. I can't image Capcom won't look at the dropoff in sales and not at least reconsider though. Basically I can't believe DmC2 has passed the "can't cancel it" point.

I'm assuming they're just going to have Ninja Theory make DMC5.

If this New Coke theory was legit, which it is not, I'd be very disappointed in them. Not only is it a douche move to play with fans like this, but a tremendous waste of time and money for all those in the creation of this game.

I'm assuming they're just going to have Ninja Theory make DMC5.

Why would they do that? That'll just piss people off more.

Look at this from Capcom's perspective:

1.) DmC reviewed better than DMC4.

2.) Dragon's Dogma is becoming a series, meaning the old DMC team is busy.

3.) Capcom is infatuated with Ninja Theory, even on the Japanese side.

4.) This financial statement makes it sound like they've decided to go with their selected external developer on an ongoing basis.

5.) If the reviews are good and Capcom likes working with them, they have a high chance of assuming the problem with the game sales wise was the setting/reboot, so putting Ninja Theory on a mainline game might seem like the most logical choice to them.
