Rare Responds To Fan’s Request Of A Banjo-Kazooie Remake For Nintendo 3DS

So it looks like Rare was asked if there would be a 3DS remake ala Ocarina of Time for the handheld via twitter. What went down on Twitter:

This is probably an annoying question to you. Is there any possibility of a Banjo remake in 3DS? Like they did to Ocarina of Time.

Rare: Anything’s possible, even if it’s not very likely :)

Though their answer wasn't promising what does GAF think about the possibility? I'd welcome the remake and would play the heck out of it. Banjo is my all time favorite platformer and it'd make for a great port/remake.

I'd say Donkey Kong 64 is much more likely, that is if any of their N64 games ends up being remade for the 3DS.

That being said, I'd welcome any remakes that Rare is willing to provide, so long as touch gimmicks aren't forced into the design, ala Diddy Kong Racing DS.

While it is possible for Rare to collaborate with Nintendo again (see Diddy Kong Racing DS), it's very unlikely when you take into consideration the trend Microsoft Studios has put Rare on.

Right now I'd be happy seeing ANY MS IP on 3DS, to me it seems they've moved from Nintendo handhelds. :(

Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow was the last one in 2009/2010.

I hope the rumors of the whole Goldeneye XBLA debacle didn't burn bridges. :(

Rare is dead. Let them go. We got Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie HD on XBLA, and that's about the best I think we can expect.

I'd prefer a new console Banjo game, or even a console remake, but mostly I just want SOMETHING new from Rare that's not Kinect Sports.

I feel like if the Vita had been a serious rival to the 3DS, it would have made sense for MS to actually support it, but there's no point now, so no, it'll never happen.

Well, we did get Grunty's Revenge after Rare was bought by MS, but that was a long time ago. I'd happily buy another proper Banjo-Kazooie, but I seriously doubt we'll get one.

If they do, i hope they fix some of the wonky ass camera angles in rusty bucket bay and change the layout of Gruntilda's Lair so its not such a boring chore to navigate.

It's not like it's unprecedented. As someone else mentioned, Diddy Kong Racing appeared on the DS and so did a version of Viva Pinata.

MS would die before supporting Sony, they seem to be at that "stop Sony" mindset.

Skype doesn't really count, I'm talking purely gaming.

Why would you think Vita? MS never put any of their IPs on PSP.

Probably less to do with Goldeneye, and more to do with the fact that none of their DS games did particularly well. Those Blue Dragon games put up pretty embarrassing numbers in Japan IIRC.

Now if MS wants to do a handheld thing, they'll just make a phone game. Windows Phone, and even sometimes iOS seems okay for them.

I didn't know people were asking for this. I personally find BK to feel rather outdated, and wouldn't want to play it again with the 3DS's limited control scheme.

Sorry, yeah, that post is worded strange. I meant if the Vita did well, I think it would have made sense for MS to make games for the 3DS, but as that's not the case, they have no reason to.

Does it matter to MS, since it's all free money? I doubt they lend a single penny, and I'm wondering if Gooch has complete control of BD only limited by platform choices (no Wii U game for instance as it's of course competing with 360/720).

Crazy how much people look at these old franchises. You don't see anyone asking naughty dog for more Crash Bandicoot. Lmao

I think he meant that MS would have had the chance of supporting the 3DS, not the Vita.

Unless that's what you meant lol.

I see now, yeah, MS might be more tempted at 3DS support, but I dunno.

One thing they did say and makes sense, is to broaden their audience as a sort of in-direct advertising, like trying to get the Nintendo crowd to buy VP:pP on DS and then consider VP:TIP on 360.

They even said Kameo would've fit the DS, how about a 3DS game guyz?

We got an HD Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie, and a beautiful Conker remake. There's really nothing else I desperetely need from their back catalogue. Jet Force Gemeni and Donkey Kong 64 updates would be nice and all but those are low tier compared to Conker and Banjo. Rare is dead and gone.

Yeah you do. People say how much they want ND to buy back the Crash IP anytime the series gets mentioned on gaf

People ask for a new Naughty Dog developed Crash Bandicoot a lot actually. No one official ever comments on it because it's impossible. Activision owns that IP. Sony owns Naughty Dog.

Blue Dragon is dead. It was never particularly successful, so I can't see anyone ever wanting to make more games with that property.

With Banjo, it would cost Microsoft money to release a game on 3DS. Rare is their studio, and rather than have them make more Kinect things that'll they get 100% revenue from, they're off making a 3DS remake.

MS should stop allowing shit like that, even more after the Golden Eye XBLA story. They're a MS studio.

Would be sick to see what Rare can do with 3DS hardware considering their past handheld technical proficiencies.

They used banjo and kazooie for paid minecraft skins and as a console exclusive playable character in sonic all star racing too.

Honestly, I've had my fill of the original B-K games, both on N64 and XBLA. I would whole-heartedly welcome a sequel on the 3DS though.

I think he meant if the Vita was a big competition for 3DS Microsoft would allow Rare to put Banjo on the 3DS, but since right now the 3DS is doing good they would feel the 3DS doesn't really need it.

Edit: Very late.

5 years ago this was something I could see happening. I very much doubt MS fears the Vita like they may have initially worried about the PSP. And their recent mobile push means that they are probably much more likely to make a Banjo for phones than they are for the 3DS.

Yup. Even though Banjo-Kazooie XBLA isn't portable, I'd still rather see any effort go to a new Banjo-Kazooie (Threeie?) title.
