Police cars etc. makes sense that they would only be shared among road-connected cities, but pretty sure stuff like resources/power/water would be shared among sea/train-connected cities too, as well as shoppers/worker/students.
Would be interesting to see about police/fire/ambulance HELICOPTERS though... if those are also road-bound. I'll have to check that tonight or so.

I'm more interested in resources. Would I be able to buy coal from your city all the way across the map?
I'm also wondering if the big structures/university research/mayor upgrades would provide the benefit for the entire region or only the clustered area.

Yes, you should be able to, to all of my knowledge. I'm not sure if right away or if the "relay cities" first need to build train stations/ferry stations, but you should be able to. I haven't tested yet, but I can tonight (or someone else can now
)Most benefits are "region wide", it says it in the tooltip exactly how it applies. So that is for sure for all cities in the region.

They could be down because they are trying to increase capacity or fixing issues. Typical for an online game at launch.
Your city will forever live on that server, until you abandon it. You can just switch to that server whenever.
yes, you'll need to first set up a localized trade depot, unlock the trade HQ which will unlock the trade port to allow you trade on the river pathways as well as the train tracks.

I wasnt able to earlier but will try again when the servers are up. I have a feeling you have to have them on your Origin friends list to add them to your SimCity friends list.

we all should use http://metalmurphy.org/SimCity/09.php and keep our shit together. That way we won't be fighting for cities when we're all in. Just add whoever is in the script thing (i'm already in, so are a couple of gaffers) and let's get this show on the road.

So are these servers "filling up" or will they become available again as populations decrease, etc?
I'm asking because if all the NA servers are full for people not already on them, it's going to be really hard to get people all in the same region unless we choose, like, Oceania or something.
I'm considering making Discovery Delta I again on a new server (nobody's signed into the NA west one yet anyway other than me). Should I do it in NA East 2 or something?

Edit: Looks like the new servers are live, for me anyway. NA East 2 is available, lets see if I can mess around on it ~_~
Over the course of 5 years, it WILL work 99.9% of the time, with the 0.01% being launch day. It's always like this, because no company will spend such an extra amount of money for server/resources that will only be used during the first 4 days of a game launch. See Blizzard.

It's just frustrating to see more and more publishers release these big "LIVE" always connected games and then never ever get it right on launch week...
