SimCity |OT| It's not the simulation or city that matter, it's <parameter: string>

based on the population they claim as total sims created so far there is somewhere between 30-35,000 people playing

Has anyone experienced a lot of crashes?

I couldn't do tutorial (no tutorial prompts and can't click anything), so I decided to go ahead and start building my own city. The game has crashed 2x on me so far.

When I can play, this game is amazing. But I really hope all these issues get ironed out soon.

I managed about 3 hours of play with no issues til servers themselves died

Wow, Giant Bomb's quick look for this game has completely destroyed any interest I had in this game. How did they screw it up so bad for people who just want to play alone? It seems like the game was designed around its DRM. Fuck.

When I first started up the game, I wasn't offered the tutorial, but could go straight into the game. Which I did, I played the first two beta's. I was having problems joining anyone's game (Unable to Create your City at this time), so I started my own public region, and actually got to start playing the game. After a bit, though, the game hung, and I had to end its task. When I went back in, it now only gave me the option of doing the tutorial! And it was the messed up tutorial with no scripts running, and no way to possibly skip it, and it shows up every time now.

I can't imagine how terrible a situation this might be for people who had never played a SimCity before and aren't following along on messageboards and stuff. It's sure gonna turn a lot of people off to the game, who will return it as defective.

I mean an actual origin friend invite, It says on I have sent you a request. Origin is a piece of shit :p

yea so after i got kicked off my server (And lost my first city) i joined a europe server and it showed the invites but i couldn't accept it and it boots into the demo, but the demo never starts.

the other euro servers don't show the demo (or the invites) but also don't show my city or allow me to create a new region.

sigh.

Been gaming since Doom. This is the worst launch day I have ever experinced. Never have I not been able to play a game I was excited for because of something like this.

I really need to save up for nuclear power or something. My wind and solar aren't enough, and I can't import/export oil or coal because my city isn't connected to anyone else yet in the Neotopia region lol.

I'm tempted to just raze my whole town, especially because of the coal and ore are in the worst places.

I suppose the only good thing so far is that I haven't had any connection issues of the sort.

I hope it absolutely bombs, and I love Sim City. I ran around my house hooting and hollering when I got Sim City 2000 for Christmas as a kid.

You can sell the oil/coal on the global market. Have you bought a trade depot?

OK so I load up the game and it wants me to do the tutorial. It loads but the tutorial never begins and I can't select any icons or buildings or anything.

First they came for Half Life 2,
and I didn't speak out because I didn't use Steam.

Then they came for World of Warcraft,
and I didn't speak out because I was playing Dota.

Then they came for Diablo III,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't paying $15 monthly.

Then they came for Sim City,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

So, how do you add friends in game?

There's a little avatar/origin logo at the top of the screen in-game. Click on that and the rest is obvious. Not working right now though.

I must say, I was very jaded about all the infamous publicized features of this game. Luckily I got to play it, and it completely won me over. The negativity marked with prejudice worries me. I hope more people can come to realize this isn't Simcity four number 2, but instead its a quality game that stands alone but also side by side with Sim City 4. A fair comparison I suppose would be, it is to SC4 just as CnC Generals is to CnC Red Alert or Tiberiun Sun.

I honestly don't even care about the small city sizes any longer. Although honestly, if mavis in the near future decided to implement larger cities and a save feature, that'll be quite copacetic.

I almost feel the same. This would be the perfect SimCity title if it wasn't for the small city size...and always online of course (not Maxis' fault though).

If the server is already having issues, then it'll be interesting to see when Europe, Australia, United Kingdom, etc have access tomorrow, round 2 here we go.

Finally got in and played for awhile. I feel like my city is absolute trash. Alarms and sirens going off everywhere nonstop, traffic is an absolute mess, and the building density is the lowest possible. I don't really have a direction for my city, so I think I'm just going to use it to toy around and then start over.

By the way, how do I get other people's police cars and ambulances to come to my city? The only option I have is to volunteer mine.

They have to volunteer theirs ;)

Just want to let the people who signed up for Discovery Delta 2 and haven't joined the full game yet, I'll be gone all day and likely the night as well tomorrow so contact one of the other people who are already playing for an invite.

Edit: Glad you got it working Norm, hope you enjoy.

Thank you for your help! It was frustrating getting everything to work, but hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow. :)

Played a lot with my city today, but I want to jump into some multiplayer city building. Are there any GAF regions still open?

Haha great. Any advice for everything else? Should I just give it more time? How do I control traffic? I have bus stops, but they aren't working too well.

Don't put down too many bus stops, because they'll fuck everything up with buses going around in the weirdest way. There's not too much for traffic control in the game yet, so it comes down to experience with the game and how to plan the city layout.

That's it. I'm done. Started three different cities after 20 minutes of waiting at least for each one because I enjoy the game that much. Lost each city.

Fuck off, EA.

Two times already, I've tried starting a new city. Only when I finally get the initial grid down and place my parks, and just when I'm about to "residential" the first plots, the game crashes and I lose everything. So much for cloud saving.

I think it's a good game, but this is the biggest problem. There's a point when you dont have any room for more buildings. The game keeps nagging you to make police departments but theres no room. I dont know what they were thinking.

I feel the same way. I'm OK with everything about the game apart from the size of the city...it's really frustrating. I feel I've nothing more to do at this point =\

City size is the main reason why I'm not buying at launch. I actually got bored in the one hour beta playthroughs because I ran out of building space so damned often.

When they increase the city sizes, then I'll look at the game again, because there is a boatload of promise with the Glassbox engine. It's just not far enough along for me yet.

Still, I wish the launch had gone better today, I was looking forward to more pics and impressions from you guys. :(

I absolutely CANNOT wait until everyone is able to get online, get into this game and make their cities.

Then in about 2-3 days the holy HELL That people will start raising over the SMALL CITY SIZE LIMITS will hopefully prompt them to do something quicker than "when the lowest common denominator of hardware users upgrade (aka 2 years from now)".

Hey OCEAN QUIGLEY, the game you so lovingly cared for and groomed to maturity and released upon the world today is called "SIMCITY"...NOT "SIMCITIES"!

After playing this about 8 hours I'll say it's a good game but it isn't the best in the series by far. I think 2000, 3000, and 4 are better games.

What I like:

1. Modular Buildings - Really great addition to the series and adds a lot of options
2. Water/Electricity going through the streets. - Another great addition
3. Region play is pretty fun though dislike it's required basically.
4. City Specializations - I like this though I wish there were more specializations I expect more to come in an expansion pack.
5. Density based off streets instead of zoning. I didn't think I would like this at first but I like it. You really have to plan ahead though especially if you want to put down avenues. I could easily see some disliking this as it is harder to improve your city because you'll need demolish and revamp area's of your city which I have never found fun.

Things I dislike:
1. Cities are too small(obviously) - I'll be a couple hours in to a new City and my City's land will be full already. Very aggravating because that's about the point where everything starts to come together. You have to try and fit in all the cooler buildings somewhere somehow.
2. No Offline mode
3. Water being a finite resource that doesn't seem replenish. It never rains in SimCity? You can't use the river for water? Ughh...
4. Fires...way too many fires. A normal city doesn't have a ton of fires usually. In SimCity there are tons.

Hopefully the city expansion upgrade is sooner rather than later because I feel it really bring this game down a couple pegs when compared to the earlier games. It is really close to being best in the series but they need to address these things. A ton of fires I can live with but the water problem needs to be looked at.
