PS Vita anniversary Deals (NA) - Free games (Wild Arms, Patapon,...) and discounts

Every Vita/PS3 owner should have PS+ anyway. And PS+ allows for auto-uploads of the savegames. Pretty much a non-issue if you are a PS+ user.

That's a really silly argument though. I mean, I can easily see why PS+ is so attractive, but I'm not subscribed because I have enough games as it is. I don't need to subscribe to something to get more of what I already have.

It is a pain to deal with the Content Manager to copy over save files before you delete stuff. I don't understand why they decided to go this route, except maybe for the possibility to protect themselves from Custom Firmware.

This is exciting. My new Vita arrives tomorrow.

What are some must buys, GAF? I'm an adventure, action, sports gamer mostly. Favorites are stuff like Mass Effect, Uncharted, Gears of War, platformers, NCAA Football, etc.

My must buy list:

1) PlayStation Plus
2) Uncharted: GA (free with Plus)
3) Gravity Rush (free with Plus)
4) Tales from Space Mutant Blobs Attack
5) wipEout 2048 (free with Plus)
6) PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale (if you have a PS3, get that version, the Vita version comes free with it)
7) Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (free with Plus)
8) Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken
9) Super Stardust Delta
10) LittleBigPlanet
11) Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (PS3 version; comes with Vita version free)

Oh, and a larger memory card if you haven't gotten one already. 16-32GBs are your best bets. 4 and 8 just aren't enough.

PS + is the best thing for new Vita owners to get. It starts you off with some damn fine games for free, and some really impressive discounts also.

Great list. Add in some minis and PSone classics too.

They're launching Toro's Friend Network later this year in the US so it's probably a small push to familiarize more people with him. The blog post for the sale briefly mentions the game.

Some pics from the announcement post.

OMGOMGOMGOMG how did I miss this??

Hopefully they bring him back to the PS3 before long though.

Vita game save data should have been SEPARATE from the game data bubble. PERIOD

they need to have it so that it asks you when you delete a game bubble if you would like to delete dlc & game saves. if you choose no, you should be able to go into the vita settings and view your vita games, vita dlc, and vita game saves and be able to delete specific items, or mass delete a selection. they should obviously have tabs for the other types of content too.

DLC and saves without a context is useless, I much prefer to move a whole bubble around and know for sure that contains ALL of my game. My problem is with how slow it is now but I think the system is fine.

Too many games that I can't play just because my 8GB is not enough!

I wish I could uninstall games without deleting the saves.

It's a pretty good looking game on the Vita. They throw a lot of touch motion silliness at you though that I don't care much for. Otherwise it's a good DW game.

who's talking about cloud based storage for game saves? Why not some LOCAL game storage for free?

With my xbox 360 i can delete entire game installs and the save file is separate, and seeing as though a save file is negligable it means i cant keep saves for as many games as i want, then just reinstall the game when i want to play again

With the vita, you either have to cough up the premium PS+ fee (which wouldnt be useful to me as a retail only consumer) or you have to go through the ridiculous process of backing up your entire Vita game data using content manager then restore the whole thing

how are you not understanding this? its not about not getting cloud based storage for free... its about getting NO save file storage without paying a fee

Whoa there, buddy.

Sony used the iOS model of tying the save data into the game 'bubble' for one reason. Security. Early PSP exploits were are using certain save files for buffer overruns. So unlike the PSP or PS3, you've never have an actual save 'file' that you can manually copy yourself. It has to be done through content manager, again for security reasons.

Question regarding cross buy games.

With Knytt Underground, for example, the store page for both the Vita and PS3 versions says "Knytt Underground™ is a CROSS-BUY purchase. Buy on PS3™ system and receive the PS Vita system version absolutely free!"

Does this mean that if I purchase the Vita version, I miss out on the PS3 version? I already purchased the PS3 version (and got the Vita version for free) because I was worried about this, but I want to see if this is actually the case. It seems crazy that you can only get both games if you purchase the right one first... I'd rather not miss out on a cross-buy purchase because I bought the wrong one.

For PSN titles, either version will grant you both. Retail titles/Retail games on the PS Store (Sly, PSABR, etc...) require you to purchase the higher priced PS3 version to get both versions.

EDIT: Is Stranger's Wrath a cross-buy game?
I don't believe so.

Bought Dokuro, Sine Mora and Street Fighter X Tekken. With the free ones, I got 8 games out of this deal(not all actually on my vita but at least in my download list). Berry nice Sony, berry nice!

Nah, what's the point of having saved data on your MC of that game that you don't have installed? It's only taking delicious space.

is this post serious?

because i go back and play games i enjoyed all the time, usually on a whim

i platinum'd and got 100% in DLC for Gravity Rush, but what if this sunday im chilling out playing vita and suddenly want to fly around as Kat again? i could just insert the cart and my save is already on the vita so everything is there and unlocked

Vita save files are so miniscule why NOT have them? its not like the few KB they take up is that precious

i have 18 retail games and the save files from all combined arent even equal to a single PS mini in terms of space on the card

i dont really care if sony did this to help combat piracy

im telling you why its a pain for the end user like myself and obviously many others here

Awesome, thank you. It'd be nice if they were a bit more clear on this, since it seemed that buying the Vita version would not allow me to get the PS3 version, but whatever. I'll just continue to buy the PS3 version if and when I want the cross-buy version.

True but then again, you have to blame hackers/pirates from the PSP era.

BTW, save files is how the PS Vita is being soft hacked with PSP emulation/homebrew. Its that bad/dangerous to have.

On topic, Im so damn glad I get to actually buy alot of cool games at decent discounts due to PS+! Feels damn good. Hate the BS rental crap. Gimme more sales Sony!

Wait... if I delete a game, my save files remains on the console, right?

Or they delete too?

If you delete a game, then your save file goes with it. There are 3 ways around it though:

A. Subscribe to PS+ and use the online storage

B. Use Content Manager to backup your entire game

C. For games with cloud saves like Sound Shapes, Sly 4, and Retro City Rampage, you can use that and safely delete the games without losing your save files

It is a decent DW game if not for the forced touchscreen gimmicks. If you can get pass that, its fun.

I'm Plus member, but I didn't know this... so I lost my P4G saves... :(

Just picked up Stranger's Wrath. Didn't play much but it seems interesting.

Also, is Army Corps of Hell any good?

It's very nice - i only played Sengoku Basara before that so it was rather suprising how much deeper DW is.

Only problem are those silly touchscreen minigames but those are passable.

Dynasty Warriors Next is pretty good. The touch screen stuff is annoying sometimes but really as long as you know what to do during duels you'll never lose. If you are a fan of the series, you'll definitely enjoy it.

So is there a way to just back up the save files? Backing up the entire 32gb card everytime just to save my progress is very dumb. I just bought my vita with ps+ but what if I move to another country and no longer has + will my save still be safe?

Unless you resubscribe to Plus with the same account you uploaded the saves with, nope. Now you understand why people hate Sony's overpriced proprietary memory cards.

Picked up Strangers Wrath as well as Wild Arms and Patapon.

SW is my first Oddworld game. Seems interesting so far.

So how do you get these free games? I can't see any mention of a sale on the PS Store on the Vita and the games are just listed at their normal price.

Is this US only? I can't find any way to download these for free. I've checked on the Vita store and on the PS3 and no mention of an anniversary sale. I'm in the UK.
