SimCity |OT| It's not the simulation or city that matter, it's <parameter: string>

How dare they call this Sim City?

Tiny little square plots stuck in the middle of no where? It just looks ridiculous.
Man, what a disappointment.

I was able to do the tutorial on one of the Europe servers last night. Sucks that they were unprepared for the high volume but it should be better in a couple days Diablo 3 was the same way.

well, the difference is Blizzard vastly improved Diablo 3 in 1-2 hours after launch.

I would not be surprised if SimCity's problems last for days. They just seem not prepared at all, and with infrastructure that does not scale easily.

Isn't the real problem here that EA have stopped allowing refunds though? So you can't return the game if you bought it off Origin.

Why would you refund the game? The game is actually a very good game cant blame the actually game for EA server issue? People worked very hard on that game.

I think people are so narrow minded they only care about me me me now now now.

I understand you paid 60 bucks and you have to wait but ive waited a total of 30 mins and I was playing perfectly fine. Plus Im pretty sure this is not a perm thing Im pretty sure theyre trying to fix the problem.

If you guys keep complaining its not actually fixing the problem youre just being annoying.

I'm happy I didn't buy SimCity. I vote with my wallet and EA will not get a single dime from me, ever again. They ruin games, ruin studios, abuse their customers and force us to use malware Origin. Shame on you EA.

It's a sad thing, I would have loved a single player SimCity with an optional online mode.

Diablo 3 was almost unplayable for atleast a week.

That's the bad part. Even if it was a laggy mess, more often than not, I was able to at least log in. So right now this is even worse than D3's launch, IMO.

It's a product. The product doesn't work therefore you should return it.

There's no need to play some weird meta-game separating the different aspects of the product.

Well, I've just cancelled my order on Origin. I've decided to wait until the dust settles, the servers are reliable and any problems are sorted out. Currently being addicted to Dota 2 certainly helped the decision too.

This means that my spot on Titan Gorge #1 (Hickory Ridge) has opened up. I hope someone takes it, and sorry to disappoint you guys. I was really looking forward to playing it with you :(

The countdown is technically useless. After it originally counts down from 18 minutes, it just resets to 3 minutes, over and over again.

Got the game 3 hours ago, yet to see anything but the launcher. I mean it's a fine looking launcher with round buttons and all but probably not worth 60 euros alone.

First, being a corporate apologist in this situation is a very ill-advised strategy, especially when blogs, boards, social networking, review sites, news outlets, real and fake journalists, etc, are ALL lit up with the exact same kind of negative experiences you're taking issue with here. This is not a case of "me me me me." It's actually "us us us us" if you bothered to really take a broader look rather than the narrow viewpoint you seem to have taken. The irony, by the way, cannot be understated; the narrow viewpoint is actually your own.

Second, if you'd bothered to read what a huge percentage of the gaming/news world is actually saying (rather than what you think it should be saying), you'll quickly see that people haven't been able to play--or even connect for a single player session--for 30 HOURS. I'll repeat it so it sinks in:

You could play after 30 MINUTES.

A lot of people still can't play after 30 HOURS.

It'd be wise to reconsider your position here.

I love irony.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Steam is actually closer to being malware than Origin is, on account of it silently setting itself to always start with Windows.

To call either client "malware" though is asinine.

Why is there a distinction between the game and the servers? They are the same thing to the consumer, the game was designed around them and it is required that they are working to play, it seems like a pretty important step to ignore. It's not a good game if people can't play it. Wanting a refund for something that is currently broken is a perfectly legitimate response.

Is anyone else having this problem where your city doesn't load no matter what?
I tried loading my city yesterday when I could get into the game (like 5 times all night) but it stood there loading forever.

It's been like that for me for like 12 hours.

What's amazing to me is the amount of people on GAF that bought the game and now want a refund even though they knew this was going to happen. C'mon guys.

Why would you refund the game?

People want to get a refund because it's not working. Why is that so hard for you to understand? If it worked they would be happy with their purchase.

The game is actually a very good game cant blame the actually game for EA server issue? People worked very hard on that game.

Agreed that Maxis worked hard on it, but they didn't work on it enough apparently. People have bought the game now but they can't play it. There may be a good game deep in there but if consumers can't even play it to tell, then what good is it?

I think people are so narrow minded they only care about me me me now now now.

I understand you paid 60 bucks and you have to wait but ive waited a total of 30 mins and I was playing perfectly fine. Plus Im pretty sure this is not a perm thing Im pretty sure theyre trying to fix the problem.

You are pretty sure? Why should your opinion influence other consumers on how they spend their money? It's their money, why can't you let them make their own financial decisions? If the game is great for you then fantastic, go play it and stop harassing disgruntled owners on here.

If you guys keep complaining its not actually fixing the problem youre just being annoying.

If you keep harassing the complainers then it's also not fixing anything. How about posting something constructive, like pictures of the cities you've made so far? This thread needs more screenshots of the game anyway, and I'd love to see some of the cities you've created.

What's nice is that he's seen almost as much of the game as I have! I like how concise his review was though. He definitely kept it within the minute time frame.

Re: Refunds
Seriously, if they had released this game a month later, say, after a public network beta test or two, this game might have seriously been golden. I enjoyed what little I've played of the game. But, money money money said that customers can pay full retail to be part of the beta, so why not do it?

I didn't enjoy the bs error messages, my city progress rollbacks, etc.

I don't understand... is there some kind of queue you have to wait in before you can play the game?!

for the time being. high popularity is causing problems with the servers this is to alleviate it but it doesn't mean you can play. you might get a can't connect to server when you make it to the main menu.

If people just sit back and never complain, EA and the likes are going to get even worse. DRM is bad enough as it is. There's no need to screw over the people who legitimately bought the game even more.

NA East servers seem to be unplayable again. Even when I can load my city, things aren't working properly. I was playing and my money was locked at 50k, so I tried to change cities to test it, and ended up disconnected.

I beg you. I know alot of you have really wanted to play this game but..

Take this shit back right now. It's not right how EA is treating you guys, and if you want to send the right message that they need to stop this shit right now, you have to show them that you aren't putting up with it.

A mass wave of returns will let them know...

Well, I have been in the queue for somewhere around 40+ minutes.

I was hoping to play before work, but that doesn't seem likely.

Sounds like I'm just going to buy SimCity 4 and avoid this new iteration. What disappoints me is how people will bitch and moan but still give EA money for this game.

You have to be connected to their servers to play and the servers are currently maxed out so yes there is a queue.

This DRM crap really needs to stop.

Oh dear, that's rather tragic. I'm a huge fan of SimCity games, but I'm glad I wasn't checking for this.

I installed this thing last night and well, damn. The game runs about 2 frames a second haha! I knew my home PC was just my artwork/photoshop PC but DAYUMMNNN!

I have to shop for a new gaming tower now, might as well. Something optimized for SimCity :D

I feel for you guys who can't play (I've been planning to get it for Mac), but part of me is kind of pleased... Because it's a very high profile failure of always-on DRM. Yet another one.

If you're going to build a PC you would probably want to set your sights higher than SimCity as a benchmark.

The sad part is that I really want this game I think it looks cool and the multiplayer with players on other cities next to you looks really cool.

Guess I'll wait for a sale.

So glad I didn't buy this.

Amusingly, SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition is one of the games you could have gotten for free back during that Origin coupon fiasco.

Simcity 4 is still fantastic, I was playing it last night. If you do get it then make sure you head over to Simtropolis and at a minimum download the NAM mod, it fixes a lot of traffic things and adds a large amount of good stuff to the game. Of course there are thousands of other excellent mods you can get for it too, but the NAM is almost required to truly enjoy all the game has to offer. Also add the single core switch to your shortcut, it solves pretty much all of the crashing problems on modern machines.

I'll buy the new Simcity eventually, but only after they release the Deluxe Game of the Year Gold All Inclusive DLC Edition with Larger City Sizes and Terraforming, and after they have all the bugs and server stuff sorted out. I've waited this long for a new Simcity game, I can wait a bit longer until it's ready for me. In the meantime, Simcity 4 is just as awesome as it has been for the past ten years.

LOL, I agree but I am also enjoying the game immensely.

I managed to get in last night for an hour-ish and managed to raise taxes to offset my terrible design choices for the town. I paid off all my bonds and am going to horde a ton of money and just demolish all the roads/start over when I hit 500k. If I kill the region, will it affect my status or will it just be like wiping the slate clean?

As far as I know they're not doing refunds, Origin wise. That, or it may appear to be representative based? As in which customer representative you speak with at EA and if he/she is in a good mood or bad. :p

It's so weird... I build a nuclear power plant and it won't open. It just sits there in the "now hiring" phase. It has plenty of roads and was where my previous power plant was.... now my city has no power because I had demoed my old power plant to put this one down... I think that is the end of my city... :(

Do you have enough residential zoning? Are your commercial and industrial areas in need of workers too?

Tip: Never get rid of your old power plant until your new one is up and running.

How long did we have to put up with error 37 with Diablo? I can't play at all right now on NA East 1 server. Such a shame.
