Simcity, it's actually a very well made game.

Well made includes the ability to play it. So I can't really say it's a well made game.

However, it's incredibly fun and beautiful when it does work.

What do you say to this review?
Right now, if you look at The Sims 3, the game costs $30. But if also you buy all the DLC for it, it's *four hundred and seventy dollars*.
What the fuck? That's absurd. Why do so many people on this website support these kinds of business practices? NeoGAF should be on the front lines against this crap.

How much smaller are the cities compared to SimCity 4?

edit: I've never played any Simcity game before and was actually thinking about buying this one. Maybe I'll just wait till 4 goes on sale though.

I think a conservative estimate would be 1/4th the size of the biggest SimCity4 tile

I have zero doubt that it is a good game. Everything I have heard and read from people who have gotten to play it says that. It is a new take on Sim City, but it is good, from what I have heard. But the technical issues are crazy. IIRC, Diablo 3 got better after a few days and that was a worldwide release, correct?

For EA to be this unprepared for the launch is amazing. I mean, no timetable for it to be fixed, disabling features, it is a disaster of a launch that will only get worse when people go out and buy the game this weekend at stores and attempt to log in.

I am not a EA-hater, I actually enjoy a lot of their games, but there is no excuse for this poor of a launch. This goes beyond normal launch day issues.

Strange, I would think the best way to promote the game would be to show off how insanely large the cities are now compared to previous games.

I wonder why they chose to go with the social aspect to promote it. Maybe they can make it into a facebook game a couple years down the road.

I think you misunderstood me, the SimCity cities are 25% the size of SimCity 4's at best, they are much smaller

And the rules for play are draconian. If you want to, say, build a city, save it, blow it up with something terrible, and then restore from save, you can't do that anymore. That's an unauthorized usage of their toy.
Really? That's like half the reason why I played SimCity on the SNES.

I had a blast on Wednesday for 8 hours nonstop multiplayer with 2 close friends. it is a great multiplayer game.

sad to say that's the ONLY time I've really played it

Sims 3 is a very meaty game without the DLC..so...don't buy the DLC. Nobody is forcing you to buy any, and certainly not all.

Hey guys! I just took a big shit!

Ignore the smell though, lets discuss how good my stomach feels now.

Just kidding :)

The game looks fun and people seem to be enjoying it on Twitch when the servers work. I'll be picking it up once they get the issues sorted out.

I'm sure it is. However, I'd call this game '2013's Biggest Piece of Shit' so far because of the issues. I haven't been able to get into a MP game yet.

Shit, A: CM was bad, but at least you could play that turd.

I'm one pissed off consumer right now.

HAHAHA. I'm rolling over this stuff.

EA has definitely activated their viral sleeper cells over this.

And nobody is forcing me to buy the game, and that's how I prefer it.

Honest question: Does Sims 3 wave the DLC purchases in your face in any way? Like are there grayed-out boxes that you could click on if you bought the DLC, but can't otherwise?

It might've changed in later patches, but there's links to the store just about everywhere. Nothing explicitly telling you to buy DLC, but it's lurking.

To me, it represents the death of another cherished franchise to appease casualtards who hate depth and meaningful strategy and think multitasking is some type of tofu (R.I.P. Hitman, Tomb Raider, Sim City).

I have to start accepting that the industry as it is now basically is demanding the death of everything that has ever been good about games, because they are killing original, superior gameplay formulas left and right and inserting shitty AAA MODERN GAME DESIGN™ garbage into even the most unassuming game, such as SimCity.

Always Online DRM is just karma, if karma exists. Which it doesn't, but it's fun saying it's karma. 'Cause fuck most publishers/developers today and their drive to destroy anything that's good about games.

From what I've seen, the core game itself looks fun, for sure. Not as good as Sim City 4, but still fun. It's a shame it's just mired in this DRM shit. Anything like that is an insta-nope for me, I'm surprised so many 'informed' people on GAF actually bought it in the first place.

If they had made a game with a modernised Sim City 4 for single-player and then the social city building for an optional multi-player, it'd be so much better. I'm sure that EA has the common sense to see that but can't risk having your game pirated..

I feel really bad for Maxis, since I'm assuming they had no choice in the matter. Watching your game being burned at the stake by the public must feel kinda awful. Still, I hope people continue to be mad and that the internet doesn't have it's typical short-term memory for this sort of shit. It seems there's always a flavour-of-the-week outrage, this sort of thing needs to be remembered so people don't roll over and accept this bullshit with the next title. Although, people will. "It's just a game, lol".

What does tripe mean? Lol

Not a viral market, I enjoy the game and want to see if people agree instead of bashing the game because of being online only.
If being online only didn't directly lead to the game being nigh unplayable and temporarily (or so I'd hope) neutered there would only be half the backlash maybe. People like me still won't like it, but if everything were running on all cylinders sooner than later I'd at least seriously consider grabbing in a sale versus suspecting it's better to abstain for good to make a point.

Why would you refund the game? The game is actually a very good game cant blame the actually game for EA server issue? People worked very hard on that game.

I think people are so narrow minded they only care about me me me now now now.

I understand you paid 60 bucks and you have to wait but ive waited a total of 30 mins and I was playing perfectly fine. Plus Im pretty sure this is not a perm thing Im pretty sure theyre trying to fix the problem.

If you guys keep complaining its not actually fixing the problem youre just being annoying.
lol

I haven't tried to get this game, but I don't like what I've heard about the small cities. I honestly don't care what reason they have, I want big-ass cities.

The game has seriously poor design choices. Once people can actually play it it will be interesting if they care enough to still bitch.

My disappointment is inversely related to the size of my city.
