I think you would be able to play it on any console, provided you're connected with your account. It's how it works for digital content on their current console : you can play offline on the console attached to your game, or play it on any other console connected with your XBL account.
That would be in line with all the current "ecosystem" philosophy of Microsoft (and everybody else) : XBLA, Xbox music, Office 365, ...

Yeah but that's for digital content (XBLA and digitally purchased games). It's also laying the groundwork to being applicable towards physically media as well, which it why I find it hilariously sad that people even consider giving Microsoft the benefit of the doubt. But I want the ways I can utilize my physical media to either stay the same or improve, not devolve into some a modified brick and mortar game that severely limits current freedoms.

Guess who that pastebin probably was from? It features his same colorful choice of language. lol
It might as well be him but we dont know.

You tend to give him credit where you like but yet dont call BS where he's contradictory (see his Xbox will run used games vs Kotaku saying it wont). It's really tiring and expected from you, pick and choose whatever floats your boat (agenda).

So I have a "agenda", huh?

Ok I think both of them are BS. What am I now?

Get some sleep bro, you're reading way too much into this

I'm not saying it's impossible but the thought that a company as large and established as Microsoft would do this, seems dubious at best.

It wasn't that many years ago they turned a blind eye to Windows piracy in what many think was a nod to padding it's user base.

Here in the UK preowned games are not that much cheaper anyway usually. It will depend on how much the activation codes will be in this scenario.

We already have online passes, which are basically pre-owned activation codes anyway.

There is nothing that says Sony or Microsoft is going to do that yet. So far it's up to the publisher. It's proven that current generation console can do that with certain publishers making their game online only.

Not all games have online passes, so I don't think all publishers will do that.

Should I join the vocal minority saying the specs won't change at all then?
So you are telling me it is either "specs wont change at all" or "Durango will have a dual APU"?

And that's just not it, some other things that you've been cheerleading like; GDDR5 memory, beefier CPU, beefier GPU etc. etc.

That's funny. You sure are good at putting words in my mouth. What other rumor will I back?

Should I stop being optimistic & positive about Durango in a Durango thread?

I'm not putting anything in your mouth. You saying GDDR5 can happen is widely known, you backing bgassassin's post for CPU tweak is also widely known.

Here you are saying GPU will also likely get tweaked;
Besides that you were recently pointing to that dual-APU post from the banned post in B3D in this very thread.

So which part exactly did I put into your mouth? There is big difference between being optimistic and being wildly optimistic.

And we all know that the codenames were available in a public pastebin much before that .. again BS.

I have been looking at the timeline of these leaks and I think what happened is superDaE (or friends in the US) hacked and obtained the docs for Durango around mid 2012.

On Jan 15 2013 VGleaks tweeted this:

@superDaE Thanks for your confidence and collaboration with us !!! Hope to impress !!!

So I'm thinking they swapped docs. superDaE gets PS4 docs and VGleaks get Durango docs. Seems fair!

Then on Jan 23 2013 Kotaku ran the story of receiving 90 PDFs from superDaE on PS4.

Also consider what VGLeaks posted recently .. details on Durango CPU and later saying that their info was in fact from 2013.

I think, you are way to overreacting. If he wants to be optimistic, let him be optimistic. What's wrong with that?

I don't know, if you are forgetting, that we currently have no clues about any of the "Durango" specs. These are all stupid rumours. There is literally nothing, that we can do about this situation, besides making assumptions.
I'm not overreacting, it's really getting tiring. And he's been called out multiple times by different people as well.

Same here in America. Usually about $5 difference and that's all.

That's an extremely short-sighted view. Sure, games that are fairly new are only slightly cheaper used, but both new and used retail games drop dramatically over time. A 5-year-old game may cost a fraction of its original price.

How much cheaper are XBLA / PSN games now than they were 5 years ago?

Also, the relatively high price of recent used games is indicative of a higher resale value.

I said usually and I've still seen a lot of older used games that are priced only slightly cheaper than a factory sealed copy of the same title. This might depend on the game and where you buy it too.

I still think DaE gets Durango docs,or VGleaks gave DaE their Durango docs and he get Dourango docs by himself at the same time, then found out there are some different part,so he said VGleaks Durango info was old(i know VGleaks said their info from 2013,so i guess one of them is lying)
Maybe VGleaks get PS4 docs, but little old about RAM part

Again edge or DaE,one of them will be wrong(but maybe not "lying" this time since something like ban used games and required online are easy to change,MS can even change it at few hours before they announce 720)

He did like the fact that he played Durango games, but there is no question that he got his hands on a Durango dev kit and dev notes.

The dev kit he was trying to sell wasn't in the same continent as him, let alone country. He was fronting the sale from Australia while the supposed dev kit was in the US. He finally admitted in the recent Kotuka peice that he'd never actually used one. And the all his info about the next gen consoles were old developer document stolen from Epic.

He was full of shit, albeit with access to actual documentation and access to the Durango dev site within MS.

man i can't wait until these specs are announced so people can stop trouncing on each other, lol.

Same here. The constant back and forth bickering about specs to a console that hasn't even been officially confirmed yet is mind-blowing to me.

On top of that, the people who are already making conclusions before the system is even revealed are going to feel really stupid if the confirmed specs are different from the various rumors.

Overall, it's the standard habit of people on gaming forums before new consoles are revealed but I'm older now and am just tired of it (lol).

Just imagine a GDC before there are official specs for the 720!!

It would be glorious. The schrodinger's console both the best and worst thing to happen to gaming...according to different GAFer's developer friends who are there.

What makes either of you think it will end when the specifications are announced. We're currently seeing a prelude to the main event.

Specs will be announced, more fighting about what either can and can't do. Games will be revealed, more arguing about one console holding the other back and so on. Features will be revealed, more arguing about how pointless features are, etc, etc, etc.

The used-game blocking already exists on the 360 and PS3. The only difference with the new machines will be that the entire game will be locked until you buy an online pass, not just the multiplayer/online features.

This gen I skipped PS3 because I preferred co-op gaming and the 360 offered more opportunities for those types of games. The playing field for next gen is looking to be much more even in those regards and it may be the power that tips the scales

Which ever console wins over developers as the lead for development is more than likely going to win my money.

When it comes to first party games, right now its a wash.

I don't think anyone here felt its all confirmed. Just they made a conclusion based the rumours what we have so far. Nothing wrong with it because they know it could be change at the end. It can be annoy or emotional to the fan base but try your best to keep yourself in control.

"Making conclusions", or discussing the specs as they are believed to be?

Every page or two someone posts a statement about how we're all getting ahead of ourselves, etc. I then inform said person that a guy who writes on this topic for a living, Richard Ledbetter from the Digital Foundry, has stated he believes the rumored specs are accurate and will be the same, or very nearly the same as the final product. He stated he believes them because his own personal sources in the development community have confirmed the spec leaks we've seen time and time again are accurate.

So to sum things up, we have good reason to believe these specs are real. We are not speculating on things that some random people think might be true.

I'll be annoyed if MS expect me to pay separate live subscriptions to the 360 and Durango. My current sub runs out this month, so I'm debating whether to renew it or not, knowing it may not carry over to Durango.

It will almost certainly carry over. Xbox Live on PC and Xbox Live on the 360 always shared the same account. I can't think of a single reason they wouldn't carry over your account to the new console.

I haven't kept track of info on the new Xbox since reading the OP a month or so ago, as it turned me off completely. Anyone care to provide a summary of this thread? Are the leaks in the OP pretty much correct at this point? Any new info since?

I'm more concerned about MS subsidizing the Durango.

My subscription to live runs out in July and I may not renew if they subsidize Durango's purchase price with a LIVE subscription contract.

Of course I may forego Durango altogether and just get a PS4 for my next gen needs.
only time will tell

The always online thing is still unknown. The specs are believed to be true, and at this point pretty much every spec detail has been revealed.

If they offer a subsidized option for the new Xbox it will be just that, an option. They will certainly sell the console the old fashioned way too.

True I suppose. It would be very stupid of them to charge you twice.

Oh yeah, of course.

But at least the fighting will make more sense since people will actually know a whole lot of information about the systems.

That's nice. I just simply prefer to wait for official confirmations.

That's not to say that I'm not I'm not interested in possible rumors -- I am. But to use them in such a great capacity to the point in which I am telling people what they should buy before the consoles are already out? Nope... not for me.

Each and every gen there's rumors from "a credible person/source" that turn out to not be true for whatever reason(s). I use to get caught up in it but now when I look back at previous gens I just realized the various things that were changed and/or things that didn't end up being true.

If you are different then that's fine but I'm simply not going to get riled up over things until I know that they are 100% true.

That's great, and you are entitled to do that, but others here do place their trust in reputable sources and do wish to discuss the rumors and their implications. Having someone continually repeat that such behavior is "mind-blowing" is glib and irritating.

I'm not saying it's mind blowing that some people do want to discuss rumors. I myself have discussed rumors.

I said though/meant that it's mind blowing that people are already having console wars over consoles that haven't even been released (or reveled) yet. That's all.

I'm hoping for a new branding because that will mean dirt cheap Xbox Live subscriptions.

I still fondly remember buying 5 years worth of Gold for £25 from PC World when the 360 released.
