Just out of curiosity, what "further support options" are there to keep Halo 2 online that are being looked into?

Ah, yes, the life of Halo 2's online infrastructure was extended "through June 2013"... the very same month that houses E3.

Maybe MS is working with AMD to make sure Halo 3 is backwards compatible with the Durango?

Xbox exclusives didn't pop up in the Catalyst drivers prior to the release of the X360, and with nine months remaining in the the year I sincerely doubt Nextbox dev kits are still using off-the-shelf GPUs.

Maybe the denial is because Microsoft are also planning a HD remake of Halo 3 for nextbox.

The thing is, the 'denial', if anything, has arguably been admittance. If anything, it's us being the skeptics and Microsoft trying to convince us that it exists. We're the victims here.

I got your back on this Stinkles. If I'm wrong then I have to make a public apology video so dont let me down.

I can't believe you're this invested in not believing the existence of the game in the face of the evidence.

The game is definitely in a grey area right now, it might happen it might not.

But to be completely on one side or the other is hard to justify.

I have to ask, why?

Would not be shocked to hear about this at PAX. PAX seems like the place for this.

Maybe they are also working on next box versions as well though and they want to keep it quite until then. If the next xbox doesnt have BS because of the switch to x86 then maybe porting the BIG games like Halo would be easier then making a 360 emulator.

Frankie did clarify this post, though, saying "our stuff" was indeed in reference to "Halo stuff":

Thinking about it. Also Steam thing is bunk as far as our stuff is concerned anyway. on't know what Dyad is or what that was all about.

So, if the opening Halo games are announced for Steam, he's backed himself into a corner... unless:

How I interpreted 'our stuff' was games developed within 343i.

If a Halo PC port was in the works, likely it wouldn't be handled by 343i, but by an outside company like Hidden Path for AoE II HD.

So saying it is not happening as far as our stuff is concerned, would be true. 343 would have nothing to do with a potential port.

Somewhat similar to his OXM quote when he was denying Halo: CEA

"There'll certainly be more Halo fiction entering the universe, but we've no new games to announce right now."

"Halo stuff" is a far broader label than "our stuff".

I have little doubt Frankie doesn't think there's a PC release planned.

I'm also not that sure Microsoft have the requisite right and left hand communication that he'd have been told. Ballmer and Gabe have done a deal mano o mano.

A Halo 3 PC port would fall under the umbrella of 'Halo Stuff.'

I go back to his denial of Halo: CEA where he said

I never ever denied the actual remake. Before it was green lit, you know, before we were ever going to make it, I denied it. Because that was true.

He never officially denied that one and he still hasn't officially denied this title. He has merely sidestepped the issue without a complete firm denial.

As far as our stuff is concerned there is no port
We have no current plans to bring the game to Steam

These aren't flat out denials, but merely PR speak. In fact, Microsoft's past history of denials would signal the 'no current plans' statement as a positive.

I personally wouldn't want 343 Industries spending any time whatsoever on ports of old Halo games. Not even from a QA perspective. As long as there isn't some kind of new scenes being added or retconning being done, there's nothing really that should impact the Halo canon that 343 has inherited or any of their current projects. Keep these guys focused on Durango Halo.

What he said, was that the Steam stuff is bunk as far as "our stuff" is concerned; the definition of bunk is nonsense. He later clarified that "our stuff" is indeed "Halo stuff", meaning that his informal statement on the matter is, to paraphrase: "Those Steam listings are nonsense are far as the Halo items are concerned."

That's a clear-cut denial.

Edit: I'm not saying I believe it. You know that. I'm just making the point that he's stated in rather absolute terms that Halo on Steam isn't happening.

Edit edit: There is a lot of "that" in this post. :p

And you make a good point at that.

That is one of the reasons that I think this game is in a grey area.

There is no way to fully believe that it will or won't release.

I know they probably wouldn't change this if they did port Halo 3 to pc, but the only thing I really want changed is the reticles. Halo 4 did that perfectly; the br reticle in Halo 3 is too large/thick. I know its a small issue, but it's also something the player is constantly looking at.

Also, having it off center would be pretty weird on PC imo.

Yes, that would be a nice change too.

wishes it were bannable to say mean things about Marvel
I've never played Halo 3 as I've never owned an Xbox 360, but I played the first two on the original Xbox, and I have to say that if Halo 3 ever did come out for PC I'd buy it day freakin' one.

And I believe many many PC gamers would as well.

So come on Microsoft, make it so! Or don't you like making money? :D

I'm no expert on drivers or how the console business works but I have a theory. Since the Durango is using AMD, perhaps Microsoft wants to rerelease the original trilogy as one pack for the 720 and since halo 3 and CEA ran on an Nvidia chip, they had some problems porting it to the Durango. So AMD improved their drivers to play halo 3 better in preperation for a 720 release and that's why it's listed in the driver source code?

Am I making any sense?

There was a shady rumor a month or so ago about a Halo HD collection coming for Nextbox.

They're going to pull the rug out from under us again when they announce the games but they have no multiplayer like CEA.

But this is a recent driver release and the console is presumably releasing in Q4. Halo 3 showing up in a desktop GPU driver set when the game is being reworked with the Nextbox's bespoke GPU in mind doesn't make any sense.

Edit: Oh, and the X360 also uses an AMD GPU, by the way. You're thinking of the PS3.

What I could see happening is Halo 3 being done as a DL only title on the next Xbox.

Would be a great way to both launch the new Xbox Live service and get people to sign up.
Or maybe it will come pre installed.
